AutoCAD 2010 :: Cannot Read PDF Plotted At High DPI?

Dec 29, 2012

I am a draftswoman have been using Autocad for doing my family tree, but i am having trouble reading the PDF's outout when printed at a high DPI. I've attached copies of the same part of the screen printed at 150 DPI, when its clear and readable, and at 2400 DPI when it goes all faded and unreadable.  But there are occasions due to some graphics that its better for me to print at 2400 DPI. is there any way of improving the text printed at the higher DPI to make it clearer and readable?

File is created and printed in 2010 LT, hence no UCS rotation, text style and print settings unaltered.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Irregularly Shaped Viewports Plotted To DWF

Jul 12, 2011

We (several people at my company including myself) are having a problem where we set up sheets for plotting in paperspace that include multiple viewports.  Often, the projects require us to use irregularly shaped viewports (i.e. not square/rectangular).  When we print the sheets to our plotter, to PDF, or to any other printer, the page looks fine.  However, if we print them to DWF using the DWF6 ePlot.pc3, the viewports will square off, allowing items that were not supposed to be shown outside of the viewport to come through.  This has caused extra information to show up across our sheets, making portions of them unreadable.

We are at a loss on how to work around this, beyond only using square/rectangular viewports.  Is there a way to get the DWFs to match what we can get out of other plotters?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Linetypes Showing Up Solid (on Screen And When Plotted)

Oct 15, 2013

We recieved some drawings from a client for updating.  The Pneumatic, System Link and Heat Trace lines all show up solid in the drawings when I open them up in AutoCAD 2012.  We tried opening them in AutoCAD 2004 and are experiencing the same issue.  In the Linetype Manager menu, under Description, the linetypes appear correct.  Under Appearance, Heat Trace and Pneumatic appear solid and System Link appears dashed (just as they do in the drawing itself).

Here's the kicker.  A co-worker has AutoCAD 2004 on his laptop and everything shows up and plots out just fine.

Changing the transparency, contrast, fade etc. of the underlay hasn't worked. I don't want to save the PDF underlay as an earlier PDF version because I'm snapping to parts of the underlay.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Scale On Printed PDF File Not Matching The Plotted Scale?

Jun 27, 2012

We have recently noticed that after printing a PDF of a drawing I plotted from AutoCAD we are coming up with differences when we double check the scale on the printed hardcopy using a carpenter ruler.

For example, there is a dimension labeled on the drawing of 200 ft.  However, if I try to scale this out with a carpenter's ruler at the drawing was set to (say for instance it is 1 inch = 100 ft) I am coming up short of the  2 inches it should be (typically come up around an 1-15/16" or around 194 feet, approx 97% of the correct amount).

In the Page Setup Manager in AutoCAD, I have the following options selected (see the print screen as well):

Printer/plotter selected: DWG to PDF.pc3

Paper Size:  ANSI full bleed B (11.00 x 17.00 Inches)

What to Plot:  Layout

I don't have a plot scale scale other than the default 1" = 1'

No plot style selected

Then, on the print menu when I open the PDF that I have exported from AutoCAD, I have the following settings (see the print screens I have attached):

Printer:  The printer I use (Konica Minolta c650 Series PCL)

And I have selected the Options "Auto Rotate and Center" and "Choose paper source by PDF page size**"

** Note, that I have tried unselecting the "Choose paper source by PDF page size" option and accordingly changed the paper size in the "Page Setup..." button at the btoom to match the document size (i.e. 11.0 x 17.0in) and it gets the difference to be closer (i.e. I now get 198 ft but some of my border gets cut off).  See the print screen below for this a print screen of the print menu and sub-menu of Page Setup showing the paper size selected.

I saw that some people in other forums state that there is no real solution when trying to scale off of PDF's and that there should be a disclaimer saying as much if you are to send the file out to a customer who may rely on doing some in the field scaling from the printed copy of the PDF file.  I find it hard to believe there is no solution as we have received some drawings from others whom the scaling works just fine.

AutoCAD 2010 :: DWG To PDF Conversion - High Precision

Jul 12, 2012

I am currently using AUTOCAD 2012 free version for educational purposes. I have a drawing that requires high precision. It has a length of 1 cm and it goes as low as 0.115 millimeters. I would like to convert this drawing to direct .pdf. However, when I do, the dimensions get incredibly distorted and the lines get thicker. I have no problems in drawing the whole thing, but exporting to .pdf and even to .DWF is problematic.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Publishing High Quality PDFs

Sep 26, 2012

Publishing to PDF as single sheets for insertion into other documents or page managers (such as Indesign) works fine, apart from the fact that it makes crappy work of JPGs should any be embedded in the CAD file. Plotting individually using high quality PDF settings also works but it's difficult with large sets.

Therefore, I would like to publish a tab set to PDF using the plotter named in page setup. However, what this does, is it forces me to pick the file name and locaiton each time, rather than using the one specified in the publish dialog. Is there a way around this? That is, can I make the named plotter behave like the "DWG to PDF" one (that is, name the files automatically)?

If not, can I make the "DWG to PDF" one not compress JPGS?

As to why - I work in a mac environment and everyone draws in Illustrator. I use CAD and many times, for large projects, need this sort of page management. And every once in a while, I need to insert a rendering into a CAD document and then publish.

AutoCAD 2010 :: DWG Files Can't Be Read

Apr 5, 2012

I am running AutoCAD 2000 ( I know it's older than most users out there... but good enough for me) and have received 3 dwg files (floor plans) that were exported from VectorWorks (newer version) yesterday.  My issue is that these files have been exported to a newer format than my ACAD2000 is able to open and I really need to be able to get at these to be able to work on them.

Willing to open these 3 floor plans in ACAD2012 and save them as an ACAD2000 file format...

I will need to rotate this block depending on the position within my plan, but I want to keep the label upright and able to be read left to right. I can't seem to find a way to set this preference, does it exist? Or is there a round-about way of doing it? Don't tell me I have to make separate blocks, each oriented a different way to the text stays upright..

AutoCAD 2010 :: Drawings Only Open Read-only?

Jul 17, 2012

For some reason, one of our PC's running MEP 2012 has suddenly started to only open drawings in read-only mode. The same drawings will open just fine on other PC's so they / their folders are not set to read-only in windows. The user also has the exact same access rights on the server as the others.

The strangest thing about this is the following warning box that appears on screen. see attached.

For some reason, the alert message which displays the full path of the dwg in question, has it's path modified with a date and time stamp prefixed with a '@' symbol. Needless to say the folder '@GMT-2012.07.17-11.00.04' does not exist.  In 18 years of playing with AutoCAD I've never seen this one before.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Modifying Drawings - Read And Write Privileges

Feb 25, 2013

There seems to be a glitch in AutoCAD with allowing another user to access a drawing that someone already has open. Most of the time , it will not allow this and will correctly give the message that someone is already in the file and give the option of opening file as read only.

There have been a few times though that someone will not be prevented from accessing the file and the read and write privileges will be transferred to the new user that opened the file last. How do we prevent this from happening??

After a bit of a google on various forums I have came across a post which says that it maybe a network issue with the drawing creating DWL files (locked) and then it taking time to update on the network.

AutoCAD LT :: Read Only Error When Opening DWG Attachment File From 2010

Feb 6, 2012

I cannot seem to open .dwg files from an email using AutoCAD LT 2010

I get an error saying c:users"username" empoutlookj0814-052.dwg is currently in use or is read only.

Would you like to open the file ready-only?

I can save the file then open it. But the user wants to open the attachment straight from the email.

I've tried changing the attributes on the folder from read only but this doesn't work, tried another profile, again this doesn't work.

It does seem to only effect .dwg files when opening with AutoCAD LT 2010.  If someone sends an xls, .doc, .pdf attachment they all open OK, I'm sure this is an AutoCAD LT 2010 issue. I have downloaded and installed both hotfixes / patches from the autodesk website and reinstalled the software but this hasn't worked either.

Obviously I can turn the first floor RCP on in the view and manually draw the information, but I assume these lines won't move if the walkways above move (or am I wrong?).  Also this seems slightly wrong given the amount of automation available.

AutoCad :: Hyperlinks In Digital Plotted File

Sep 22, 2011

I'm plotting a Township Dimension sheet that has links to corner tie sheets on each section corner. Ideally I'd like to plot this using the "DWG to PDF" plotter and have it saved as a PDF so when it's put on our website you can easily pull up each relevant tie sheet from the links.

If I plot this as a .DWF file the hyperlinks work great. However, I highly doubt too many people can easily open DWF files so I'd like to keep it in a PDF format. Is there any way to plot to PDF using AutoCAD and keep the hyperlinks? I'm starting to think the only way to have hyperlinks in a PDF document is to create them manually using Adobe Acrobat (which would be A LOT of work).
