I just got a new job with AutoCAD 2011. In the previous version (was using 2008 beore), I could select all lines, dimensions hatches, and then change the dimension style. But with this new version, as soon as I select anything that is not a dimension, like a hatch pattern or a regular line, I can't change the dimension style anymore. Is there anyway to change this back to how it was?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am working with a template, that doesn't allow me to change the dimension style. In the project the Use Style Library is set to Read/Write. I have created my dimension style, at this point just a copy of the ANSI standard with a text size difference. I went to my template and set that syle as my default, and saved it. Now the fact that it doesn't automatically update the drawing I had alreadycreated is a nuisance, however if I creat a new drawing, the style has reverted to a different standard, that is not even the ANSI default. If I right click a dimension and change the dimstyle to what I saved it does update, but if I try to change the style again it defaults to a random dimstyle, AND changes the style even if I hit cancel. So... the question is how to make the changes stick?

this works OK for the first time, but when I run the code again, I don't create the new style, I just take the existing one and changing the Dimtxtsty property to the value it already has causes AutoCAD crash
Using 2012. On pre-07 versions I've used, I could change the style of all dimensions in a drawing by selecting all entities (or using window selection) and then selecting the new dimension style from the combo box, regardless of what layers or entities were selected. Any dimension within that selection gets changed to the new style selected. In 2012, if I select any entity that isn't a dimension, no dimensions styles appear in the combo box, and so this method doesn't work.
Is there some new setting preventing this from working?
are there any possibilitys that i can change my dimension style in a way that dimensions with less than a meter are shown as centimeter, for example 0,50 (m) are shown as 50 (cm).

Now when we create pdf files, there are random lines either to left of the text or left and top of text. It is not every dimension. We had it set to none before and would trim lines around dimension text. We did not have problems with pdf until changing the fill color. It plots from autocad to plotter without a problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I dimension an arc to find the radius, the dimesnions appears as a line going from teh center of the arc to the edge of the arc with the dimension in the middle. I don't want this. I want a leader pointing to the R text and that's it.
I've attached a photo of both scenarios- one dimension is the style I don't want, and one is basically the style I want (I'd like it to be more of an elbowed leader line), but it only appears when I use AutoCAD's ISO25 dimension style.

I'm trying to find dimension style manager in Autocad 2011. The one where I can set text size, arrow size, style etc.
I used to be able to find it on the dimensions toolbar but now it's gone. I mostly use Inventor so I rarey go back to Autocad.
even finding how to change precision of the dimension was a pain - it used to be double click and change it in the property window. After a few minutes of trying things I managed to find it under right lick menu.

How can I print a dimension with its arrows but without it's dimension lines?
For example--I draw a rectangle and draw a horizontal dimension across the center of the rectangal. Then I flip the arrows and drag the number to the left outside of the rectangal. I want arrows facing inward from the left and right and the number out to the left. I don't want a line stretched across the center of the rectangal.
Is there a way to change text font style (Text, and Mtext) in nested blocks automatically? I need to do this for multiple nested blocks at once.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have created a table style in ACAD 2012 with all of the cells formatted to what I need. The trouble begins when I bring in a BIAS excel data link to populate the table. I have tried every option in the insert table steps and have even tried all the different options under the modify excel link options. I have toggled the use excel formatting on and off, which does change the table size a small bit, but does not allow the table style to take affect.
I have attached a screen shot of the "good" and "bad" tables. The bad table is what the good table comes in as and it is also what happens everytime the table link updates. It always reverts back to the bad style and then I have to change the table back to the good one by hand - changing each column individually.
Is there a way to attach a data link to a table with the table style holding its shape and formatting?
This happens on all of my drawings and using all kinds of different excel links.

I'm working on a drawing that was converted into cad and it seems like every dimension has its own style. When I copy use the move comand or try to change the dimension the text changes from being above the dimension line to centered and the text gets closer together horizontally. When I compare a copied dimension to the original it has all the same properties including the text pos vert still being above text. The actual dimension style hasn't changed at all but what is showing up on screen is different.
Here a image showing three dimensions with the same properties, the top 2'-10" is what it should look like, the bottom is what it looks like when I copied it and the 1'-2" is when I make a new dimension.
In my model i need to display in 3D. When i change the visual style from 2D Wireframe to 3D Hidden nothing is changing.
Its not a problem with the software as if i draw a cube in the model this changes but my model still does not.
Also the model is imported from Tekla Structures in the same way as the 20 a week and this is the only one which i have had problems with.
In AutoCAD, or some 3rd party software perhaps.
Is there a way to automatically display the dimension of lines or objects as you draw them? I looked at dimensional constraints, but AutoConstrain doesn't seem to have an option to automatically apply dimensional constraints....right?
I have a rather weird problem. I am using .dxf files as digital overlays on a new optical comparator we recently purchased. The problem is, the cad files we used to create our old mylar overlays is both 3d and comprised of text/curves/dimensions. I figured out the flattening and turning the text into lines and curves, but I cannot find a method to change the dimension graphics (profile boxes, length dimensions, and angle dimensions) into lines and curves.
When I import them into the comparator program only the lines and curves can be displayed on the comparator. Is there any way to flatten and make all of the dimension graphics lines and curves?
I am currently using AutoCAD 2010. I'm placing some length dimensions on partial sections of a circle and the arc dimension comes straight out from the chosen points as a dimension of a flat line does. I would like it to look like an angular dimension without having to use a text override. Is there any way to change that to where the placed dimension lines follows the edges of the section instead of coming straight out?

My program freezes up for a couple of seconds each time, to scan the drawing. So a task that should take 10-15 minute is turning into 25-30 minutes nightmare. Every selection I make there will appear a progress bar and the words "Scanning the drawings..." in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Is there some setting somewhere i can turn this scanning feature off? Is this issue linked to the layer states?

The only way to select more than one line for a command is to hold down the shift button and then select more lines. I think someone was playing around with the computer and must have changed a setting?

We create many custom sized parts that could be cut on a plasma (utilizing the circles for holes) or punched, assigning a crosshair tool to the point. Now we are switching to a laser, and want to etch a crosshair at this same location. Our solution has been to draw the crosshair and copy to each required location. Sometimes this may be 20 to 30 locations. Now I would like to know if there is a way to replace all of these circles with a crosshair. This could be a similar lisp file, or an easier manual operation. I know that I can select all of the circles using the filter command and specifying the radius. I'm inserting dimensions and the tics keep coming out huge and not on the dimension line, in fact there's one on either side 20 ft out. If I change the drawing scale in the tab at a the bottom the tics get smaller and closer in, but they are still off the dimension string by a long shot.

I have looked through all the start up files, all the lisp files and can't find anything that would be creating them!
They appear in any file I open, new or old and even if I open a template file.
I have attached a file that should be empty but you will (or should) see both a font and table style called "Legend".
(FYI I am running AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 as AutoCAD 2010)
Is there any way to lock a text style so that the associated font style can not be changed?

I want to be able to select all thirty or forty of the lines using either the select similar (lisp, AC2010) or quick select and return a total length of all of the selected lines. In the properties box it shows as varies.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEach time I open a drawing, on my arrow dimension I get a style override which is always scaled at 96. Even if I delete the style override, when I close the drawing and open it again, it's back. It's always on the "arrow" dimension, never any other dimensions. I don't know why it's been doing this, it just started one day out of nowhere. Is there a way I can get rid of it? I'm using AutoCAD 2005.
