View 1 RepliesI have dwg files with Calibri font (our standard font style) that I am trying to xref into one drawing (a bunch of detail dwgs essentially). The detail looks fine in its own dwg - but when I xref the dwg into another dwg some text elements appear bold. I've check ALL of my font styles - nothing is selected to "bold"... I scale the x,y and z to the same scale.

I wanted to update the title block (inserted as Xref) as some changes occur in the original dwg but sounds not to work.
How the Xref is updated so that all changes in its original source can be reflected automatically?

We are having a problem with blocks not appearing after xreferencing a drawing. We can place blocks as normal from the tool palette, but as soon as we xreference a 2D site plan and select blocks from the tool palette, they will not place. You can see them when placing, but once you click to place it, the block does not appear. I have copied out the site plan to a new dwg file, still does the same thing. Everything has been purged and ran an audit in the plan drawing and also the site plan drawing. The block does not show up in the block editor either. I am trying to avoid redrawing the site plan like we had done with two models that were doing the same thing. Remodeling a vessel and rebuilding a skid composite corrected the problem with two other drawings, but redrawing this site plan would take considerable time.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a library of blocks that I built for our company to use. We recently upgraded from 2013 to 2014 and boy did it throw our library for a loop!
There is a check box (reflectivity) that leaves the materials black when the drawing shade mode is changed to Realistic (unless you go in and uncheck the reflectivity box) and while I have figured out how to alleviate that issue (by unchecking it on our tempate and saving it) I am still having a materials issue with our blocks.
I can open the block (and turn on Realistic mode) and all the pieces have their materials like they should. I then open a new drawing and insert the same block into the drawing .. one piece is sans material.
I cannot for the life of me figure out why it's there on one drawing but it gone when inserted. The new drawing has been purged and doens't contain anything it shouldn't.

I am running 2008 and am having a problem using Xrefs in my scene. When I change the material in the Xref file, the parent scene that references the xref doesn't update the material. If I change the Xref geometry it will update it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing AutoCAD 2010, and I'm having problems printing with one dwg, that I've had to copy an Excel Spreadsheet into. The spreadsheet was created with Excel 2007, and has quite a bit of text in it, and I'm trying to print it on an E size sheet, to an HP Designjet 4000. AutoCAD hangs up each time I try to print this, and my computer gets a message indicating that I'm low on disk space, even tho I do have plenty of space. It's like Autocad is taking more resources than it normally should. How I can insert this spreadsheet into AutoCAD and be able to print it? I've inserted the spreadsheet in model space, and the titleblock/border is in paperspace. I've tried printing to pdf and exporting to other formats to see if that will work, but AutoCAD keeps hanging up. Any other AutoCAD dwg works fine to print to the printer. It's just this one file with a spreadsheet inserted into it.

I’m now encountered into two problems with this regard:
Why sometimes we get the number sign “####”?How can the field automatically be updated in case a “stretch” is made without the need to go and click “update fields”?How to make the “precision” of the field value (which represent the length) to be 5 such that the 2568 will appear as 2570 and the 2563 will appear as 2565
I’m attaching the block in case your time permits to have a look

Round off of the value (length) of an inserted field, I wanted to make a round off for the field value that represents the length of a line but sounds that there is no option to do so.
For example:
the 2568 will be rounded off to be 2570
the 2563 will be rounded off to be 2565
This option is available for the dimension objects and wondering why it not offered for the inserted fields.

Basically we have a number of different procedures that need to be written in each drawing. Usually we type it out every time which is a pain or copy paste. Is there any way to have 5 or so pre made text blocks to pick which to insert onto different types of drawings but that can be global used across a few systems? We have a small group of workers all on the vault server.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAnother problem i'm having with autocad 2012 is one with the personal Materials Library.
When i try to add materials to the "My Materials" library i get the following error :
Changes to the library cannot be made.
The library file is currently locked or missing.
I'm using autocad 2012 as an administrator and am the only ony using the library file on this computer.
I am exploring the possibilities of content browser of AutoCAD 2012 and came across a contrast issue. The thumbnail background color is white and the lines are as drawn. (Drawing with black background)
Is it possible to change the Thumbnail Background color to black to get a better preview.?
When I attempt to change my user variable "xyz", a linear restraint, by 4 or more, I get an error message, "A dependent expression cannot be evaluated. The parameter is used in an expression which results in an invalid value for a dimensional constraint." But I can change the value by increments of two many times and exceed the limit of 4, and not get the error message. What is happening and how do I correct this issue?
View 7 Replies View RelatedActually, i tried to mention dimensions in metres in first layer and the same dimensions in feet in different layer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI guess because the view is actually saved, but is there a way to disable view saving or any other way that an UNCHANGED drawing does not ask me to save?
This is related to the option to combine zoom and pan actions in undo, but what I really want is to remove them from undo completely. That way if you zoom out you could see what changes, and you wouldn't LOSE THE ABILITY TO REDO by zooming.
Optimally, AUTOCAD could ask for each drawing whether it should save, and then save the ones that you selected, together. This way you could just leave the application to save and tab to something else
I'd be really happy to see this option in future releases. Because when you undo you can't always see the change, and being able to zoom/pan independently of the action history would mean that you can look at the drawing without losing the latest drawing.
The “regular dimensions” are not changed as the “constrains dimension” are!
I’m wondering why the “regular dimension” don’t change automatcislly as the “constrains dimension” change?
Do we really need to re-make all the regular dimension manually? How does this increase the performance and the integrity of the work?
Is there some workaround to have the “regular dimensions” change as the “constrains dimension” do?

When I try to render, some materials get transparent. The solution is to set the view-backgroundcolor to 'none'
But I want a gradient background.
See attached files for example...
problem i'm facing when ever i tried to apply a material to an object in AutoCAD 2010,I have set all the necessary thing required for the material to be visible such as visual style(Realistic/Conceptual),Material/Texture(on) and any of the isometric view.Below is a captured image of the problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just wanted to add some materials to my objects and it seems some menu entries on Toolpalettes are missing (masonry etc.). I installed the full version of AutoCAD 2012 and also downloaded some additional material libraries. View 3 Replies View RelatedLets say I have file 1 and files 2,3,4, file 1 contains several layers and is an xref in files 2,3,4.
Can I somehow set a layer to off or frozen in file 1 and it will make sure to be switched off in my files 2,3,4 aswell? I have played around with New VP Freeze but if I add a layer at a later time and files 2,3,4 already have several viewports that doesn't do me very good.
I am not sure if i ever noticed this before, but if I get a dwg file from an architect who has XREF another dwg background and then I enter the command _AECEXPORTTOAUTOCAD2010 on the main dwg will that take all the XREF files and convert them to blocks as part of the exported file? This seems to have been done and wasn't sure why?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi open a cad file with an XREF inside, then an error appear indicating that 1 file is still unloaded.
i locate the location of that xref file then load the file, after that i click reload all references but still the xref file appear unloaded.
I have an xref that I am trying to xclip. Normal xclip works fine, but when I try to invert the clip (which I was I need), a light grey background shows up (in preview mode and on prints) around most of the boundary, and takes up most of the screen.
It also clips objects from other xrefs along the plane of the boundary, even though they're not actually within the boundary (they are visible in the drawing, but clipped in preview mode). I have purged and audited both drawing and xref.
How do I bind an ex referenced image file?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to reference a drawing in AutoCAD 2012 and whenever I try to atrtach the drawing by XREF it does not come in viewable. none of the layers are seen. this is the second or third drawing that this has happened to me. I have checked to see if it is on a frozen or off layer. or some non-plot layer. I have opened a fresh drawing to reference it in. none of these have produced a result. The only thing different about the layers is that the layer rhombus, which is usually Blue, is now grey

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe line weights in the xref are as they should be - I can change the line weight (plot by layer/color) and it plots correctly; when I attached this file to another drawing, the line weights do not plot. I can change the layer color to modify the weight (.ctb file) and the correct line weight appears on the monitor, but when I plot - the line weight looks like a standard default width.
I checked the lwdefault in the xref and three other drawings, and in every drawing it is set to '25'; the lines are lines (not plines), and have a zero elevation. The units are the same as the other drawings;
I believe it's a setting in the drawing (not the xref) - what setting it might be.
We are a small company with two PCs - 1 laptop and a server. We are having problems using xref drawings across the network. The laptop is mapped to the Z drive and the reference file is on the server (D drive). Each time we open a drawing on the laptop (Z drive) the xref files which is saved on the server (D drive) cannot be seen. We reattached the file and it works fine until we closed and reopen the drawing. When the drawing is opened on the laptop the xref is not loaded on the screen. However, the file extension can be seen but no drawing is visible.
In summary how can we tell get the laptop to permanently reference xref files saved on the server without them dropping out?
When saving an AutoCAD drawing there is a Thumbnail image saved (if you have the option turn on), but when the command "Edit Xref In-Place" is used there is no Thumbnail image saved. So now when I try to preview any drawing that has been edited through this command there is no longer a thumbnail.
I am using AutoCAD 2012 and the option to save a thumbnail is turned ON.
