AutoCAD 2010 :: Inserting Template File Which Contains Attribute With Image In It?
Mar 7, 2013
I created an attribute of a title block, our company logo is inserted as a raster image within the attribute, I created this dwg file into a dwt file (template) however every time I open a new drawing and insert in the template file in the paperspace tab the attribute comes in but always with the logo?
The frame of the logo shows up with the file path of where is is located.
I inserted a dwg created with Autocad LT 2004 into a MS Word 2010 document using: Insert | Object | Create from file. The result is the desired drawing is inserted but, in addition, the template used to create the dwg is also included and visible as if it is an additional layer. How to keep this from happening?
Is it possible, via whatever methods (lisp?) to be able to have a premade block with an attribute and insert it into a drawing then assign a value to it by selecting another existing block in the drawing and using one of its own attribute’s values?
For example, say I have a block representing a telephone and it had an attribute called "PhoneNo" and I inserted it into a drawing showing an office floor plan that had blocks in each office space that are telephone junction boxes with attributes "PhoneExtension". I would like to be able to autocomplete the entering of the “PhoneNo” data by selecting one of the telephone junction boxes in the drawing and using its attribute’s value.
When inserting an xref, which I have prepared with a file name etc in a drawing, Autocad prompt me this message" The file you have chosen cannot be used as a block name or is greater than 8 characters. Autocad has assigned a shortened block name. Enter an Altenate name "
I have the school edition of ACAD 11, and we made a template in class, and now whenever I open it from windows, it opens 2 drawings. It did this with my personal computer as well as the school computer I was on at the time. I'm guessing I changed a setting within the template? It isn't 1 drawing of the template and one fresh one like I read alot here, both seem to be my template file in dwg.
I am having trouble inserting a JPEG image in Inventor 2011 LT drawing (DWG) file. The Image button on Insert panel under Manage tab is always disabled. I am able to bring in the image using Insert Object feature and selecting 'create from file' option. Although the resulting image looks OK on the screen, it looks inverted and distorted when printed.
I am facing the same problem when I try to insert image in a dwg sketch, however, the process works as expected on part sketches.
I have an old drawing where I am inserting layout from the template. The problem is that the template is off from the white sheet of paper. My templates are .dwt files and usually work fine.
I'm working in a different department and can't figure out why the attribute box won't open when I insert their title block. I have checked that all the variables attmode, attdia, attreq, filedia, and cmddia are all set to 1 in both drawings. What am I missing? I'm using 2014. I'm attaching the drawing I want to insert.
I'm trying to build a routine for my job to insert a block which consists of 3 single line variable attributes in a specific order. I need to be able to do this on many different drawings, and I would like to share this ability with my coworkers. Using the DesignCenter is not an option. In order to do this, I saved a drawing which consisted of the three attributes in the layout in which I need them to appear, however the order in which it prompts me to enter them is reversed. I already know how to set the order of attributes in an EXISTING block definition using the BATTMAN command, as every time I run the routine again, I'm redefining the block definition.
I'm not sure if it's important to know this, but the routine consists of a button with the following macro:
starting a new job at work so setting up the job folder etc. grabbed the title block and the text attribute insert from the library.....
so here is when the issue started.....so title block and text attribute are both saved in model space, both have all the same settings, this also applies to the template we have here all match.
so i xref in my title page at 1:1 which comes in normal, then i insert my attribute block in at 1:1 but it comes in at some super size thing, normal 3.5 text size is now 1000......
have fiddled with everything gone back to the library set etc but got no idea.
the interesting bit is if i open the title block and insert the attribute block in, it comes in perfect......
so in saying that i am assuming it is the work template..... but none of this has changed for over a month and have created drawings since then........maybe a random setting somewhere has changed but again haven't done anything different to normal no new radical changes....
i have attached a copy of the title block and the text attribute.
when I insert a block with attributes I get the prompts on the commandline to fill in the attributes. Can I stop this from happeneing, and just insert the block?
Alternatively, can I get the Attribute Editor dialogue box to come up instead?
Sidenote: How hard is it for people to learn that blocks need to be INSERTED not copied - if you copy the blasted thing the attributes are messed up, why is that so HARD?
creating a block with attributes. I did manage to get my block set up and inserted in a dwg, but I am unable to change the "value" of any attribute. Unless I click on the "..." button next to the value field.
What I really want to do is on our fire alarm blocks we have 3 different attributes one for the address, the candela and one for misc info. I want to make an attribute that takes the number from the candela (15,30,75or 110) and change a different attribute to a value depending on which candela we use (such as 15=.078, 30=.113, 75=.195 or 110=.259). But I don't want the .078,.113,.195,.259 to print out on paper, I want to export block information excel file so I can add up all values.
How to connect to MySQL database and insert data from a set of blocks containing attributes?
Something like:
block 1:
- x coordinate; - y coordinate; - handle;
block 2:
- x coordinate; - y coordinate; - handle;
block 3:
- x coordinate; - y coordinate; - handle;
I've just got the second part (retrieving info from the blocks), but when it comes to connect to the DB I'm completely lost.
For the DB I'm using XAMP for Windows, thus using localhost, user ('user123'), pass ('pass123') and table ('table123'). The table has ID (PriKey and AutoInc), px, py and hdl fields.
Every time I attempt to insert a block with an attribute in it from my tool pallet I get the error FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Acess Violation Reading 0x0020 Exception at 4260af08u.
If I insert a block without attributes it works fine. I even tried building a block in 2013 and then inserting it from the toolpallet, still fatal error's out.
to make large magnets with my own picture. Vista Print has these guides for making the pic.
Full Bleed Size (starting document size) 5.59" x 4.33" 142mm x 110mm 1677 x 1300 pixels * Finished artwork should use the full bleed dimensions for best results.
Document Trim Size (final size after being cut) 5.47" x 4.21" 139mm x 107mm 1642 x 1264 pixels * keep all text within the safe margin. Resolution 300 DPI
They are telling me to verify:
1. final document size is correct. (5.59" x 4.33")
2. all background colors and images bleed to the edges of the document at the full bleed dimensions (5.59" x 4.33").
3. all important text and images are within the safe margin (.137 from the edge of your document).
4.resolution is 300 DPI at 100%.
5. all fonts are converted to outlines (Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw).
This isn't new or original, so I know there's got to be a better way to streamline it. Me and my team are going to be at an event, and we're going to take lots of photos. We want a way to very quickly apply a template around these photos. In this case, we're making it look as if the photos are the front page of a newspaper.
I'm speaking to one of my company's designers, and he seems to think we would have to do this manually in Photoshop 1 by 1, but I know there has to be a better way. There are tons of iPhone (etc) apps to apply templates/skins to photos.
Is it possible to make an attribute or a field in a template with page numbering for layouts? Is it possible to make an attribute or a field in a template with the name of the layout?
I have a ton of blocks with attributes. Sometimes when I insert them, AutoCAD (2011) prompts me in the command line (perfect). Other times, a prompt box appears to insert attribute definitions (annoying).
What setting do I have wrong, or am I setting the blocks up incorrectly?
While in model space anything I insert, copy/paste or bring into model space looks squashed compared to the original data. It's like the Z axis is rotated. As it sits all the original data in model space looks fine or "flat" as it should.
When measuring the inserted squashed object it's giving me the correct dims but because it's squashed 18" looks like 12", if that makes any sense. Also if I copy/paste the original data in model space into another new template it then looks squashed.
Is there a system variable or setting just for that dwg that could have been changed?
Is there a way to insert CAD blocks into the Multiline text editor, much like you are able to insert a block into a Table.
I am asking for the sole purpose of Plan Notes. When we lay out Plan Notes originally we place the note bubble next to the line of text it represents. When we have to come back at a later time and edit the mtext, sometimes add a line our users are in a rush and forget to re-align the note bubbles with the text. If there was a way to insert the block into the text editor and have it still be able to edit it.
Is this a feature in 2013?

I need to insert the same block from a tool palette multiple times into my drawing. Is there a way to do this without having to pick the block from the tool palette every time I want to insert it?
I have two drawing files of arrows. One inserts uniformly and the other assumes that I want to specify the X and Y scaling separately. These drawing files do not contain blocks at the moment, but may have as some point in the past. I can't find anything in the drawing files that sets the block scaling when there isn't a block in the drawing, but one of them is behaving as if there is and the other one is not. How do I change all of my similar drawing files to insert scaled uniformly?
I see the option to scale uniformly on the insert dialog box, but I need this for a script, so I need to use the command line version.
Here is a copy of my command line for inserting the two drawing files:
Command: -INSERT Enter block name or [?]: Sign-Arrow-12-A-Left Units: Inches Conversion: 1.0000 Specify insertion point or [Basepoint/Scale/Rotate]: 0,0 Specify scale factor <1>: Specify rotation angle <0>: Command: -INSERT Enter block name or [?] <Sign-Arrow-12-A-Left>: Sign-Arrow-16-A-Left Units: Inches Conversion: 1.0000 Specify insertion point or [Basepoint/Scale/X/Y/Z/Rotate]: 0,6 Enter X scale factor, specify opposite corner, or [Corner/XYZ] <1>: Enter Y scale factor <use X scale factor>: Specify rotation angle <0>:
Command:
Note that the first time Sign-Arrow-12-A-Left comes in with no reference to option X/Y/Z, but the second time Sign-Arrow-16-A-Left has the option, and there for requires the extra line of input.
I am using AutoCAD 2012. When I use Paste Special to insert and object as an Image Entity AutoCAD shuts down. I used it for years on older versions of AutoCAD with no problems. It is good to use when inserting a PDF into a drawing to trace over the objects for CAD use.
