AutoCAD 2010 :: Huge Files With Phantom Sequential Blocks

Apr 16, 2013

We are experiencing an almost virus-like situation with some of our dwg files. Massive file sizes that grow exponentially - even with very few entities and no xrefernces. Said files also have issues with copy-to-clipboard and paste from one dwg file to the next: objects do not paste, but dozens of sequentailly named phantom blocks are generated.

After doing some searching around we feel this is occurring when clients send us files exported from microstation.

Any patch or purge command that will fix this?

AutoCad :: Blocks Coming In HUGE

Jan 24, 2012

I am cleaning up a drawing from another company, (changing linetypes, text, layers, blocks). When i change blocks, opening the block that I want and saving it as the one that is there, the block comes in at a scale that is a lot larger then what i would like. After saving the new block, if i insert it in, it comes in at the proper scale.

Both the drawing and the blocks are at unitless.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Losing Wall Blocks When Opening 2010 Arch Desktop DWG Files With 2013

Jul 14, 2012

We recently updated all of our software at my company from 2010 architectural desktop to 2013 autocad.  We do a lot of architectural work where we use the "wall" functions to draw our floorplans.  I have noticed that the walls are disappearing on some files and not on others. Or we will only be able to see the outside line of the wall, but not the interior, which results in an undesirable appearance to the floorplans.

I have also run across these error messages when opening the files, I dont know if they are related or not:

"Unhandled exception C0000005 (access violation reading 0xffffffff) at address E43AA180h"

and

"Unhandled exception C0000005 (access violation reading 0xffffffff) at address D41218AEh"

Photoshop :: Working With Huge Files

I could really use some help. I have to work on a vergy large photo (a 2x2.5 metters print, in 300 dpi). Someone told me that I should work on a small version of the file, and then copy and paste the history from the small to the big file

The thing is: how do send the modifications from one file to another?

CorelDRAW X5 :: Producing Huge PDF Export Files

Jul 21, 2011

I had a road map drawing in Draw X3, mostly lines and text,  and used to export to pdf for smartfphone compatibility, getting typically an adequate quality 204 kB file using "export for editing" export setting.   After upgrading to Draw X5 the same file gives a 1508 kB pdf file which is too large.    If the export setting is turned back  to "web" I get a small 40 kB file but the quality is not so good.    How do I compromise between "web" and "edit" settings for exporting to pdf.

VideoStudio :: Created Video Files Are Huge

Jan 8, 2013

Shooting with Canon 5DmkII DSLR, which provides 1920x1080 .MOV files at 29.97 fps. Data rate on the files is about 45Mbps, with a total bit rate marginally higher.I have been asked to output .MOV at 29.97, 1920x1080 progressive with PhotoJPEG compression at 90%, square pixels.

In Proj. Properties, I seem to need Microsoft AVI (MPEG doesn't allow 1920x1080 option). No compression, and have obviously kept 29.97 fps. Whether I want to perform non-square pixel rendering at this point, and haven't yet found any info on whether the camera shoots square or non-square pixels. Or I want frame-based or upper or lower fields first. I haven't found any explanation of what this means in the product documentation.

I've created an output template to give 1920x1080 at 29.97 fps, 24-bit colour. Again don't know whether to pick frame-based or upper or lower field first. Using PhotoJPEG compression (100% seems the only setting available, but that's OK).

In the final Create dialogue box Options, there is another chance to render non-square pixels (I'm assuming "no" here since I want square), as well as a checkbox for Smart Render, but again no explanation as to why I would need it.

So I've been practicing with 10sec clips to see what happens. With the above settings, the creation takes a couple of minutes and I have been able to generate a huge 1.6GB output file. Play is somewhat jerky since I don't think my computer can keep up. The input files are e.g. 233MB for 44sec, or about 5.3 MB/sec. Am I wrong to expect the output to be about the same size? Curiously, I have been able to generate 50MB files for two of the videos, and the rendering only took a couple of seconds. Unfortunately I have not been able to repeat this, but rather get these 1.6-1.7GB files as the routine. I have tried different input files with the same result.

Photoshop :: Optimize A Huge Number Of Files For The Web

May 7, 2004

I have hundreds of web galleries that I need optimized. I need each photo opened and resaved. However, I need the photos to be saved via "save for web" so that the files end up being about 20-30 k. If I use just "save as > jpg" the files end up being about 100-130k. IMPORTANT NOTES: I want the current files to be overwritten (partly because, if I designate a destination, they will be unorganized, and partly because each photo comes in 4 diferent versions: bwlrg, bwsml, clrlrg, clrsml.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 :: Files Are Saving In Huge Sizes?

Oct 25, 2013

Several days ago I noticed my files sizes were enormous. I was unable to even open them to work on them. Something that was once 517KB becomes 161MB the next time I save it.

After I installed the Corel update this morning, things were back to working as usual. But tonight it's back to the huge files. I saved a simple greeting card file - no halftones, no gradients, etc. It saved at 19.7MB. A few minutes later after making some small changes - saving again it was now 118 MB.

I tried saving to a lower version of Corel and ver 15 it was the same scenario. When saving to 12, 13, & 14 the files were normal, small sizes. But after a few hours even those versions were saving at huge sizes.

I've had a friend check her computer using the same file - she has the exact same computer & on Corel X6. All of her files are nice and small like they are supposed to be.

I've run virus checks and nothing is coming up. I am on Windows 7 64 bit.

Other than recreating all of my files every time I use them - I have no way of saving usable .cdr files.

GIMP :: Create Huge Billboard Sized Files In Super High DPI?

Apr 25, 2012

I am printing super high res images onto fabric. My print guy has instructed me to create my images in 1440 dpi and my fabric is 58 inches wide and about 80 yards long. I need to create ONE image so they can just print it continuously along the whoe piece of fabric. So I need to create a REALLY BIG image. They have recommended Adobe Creative Suite, but of course I want to do it with GIMP.

Just today, I installed the latest GIMP, and it doesn't seem to be letting me create even a 58x72 inch image in 1440 dpi. Is there an add on or a way that I can create huge tiff files in GIMP?.....or do I have to shell out the cash and get Creative Suite?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Phantom Parts In IDW?

Apr 26, 2012

I have a situatuion where I have some parts in an assembly that have been set to BOM Structure Phantom, (I didn't use Reference due tho the display issues with Reference parts in the idw.  ie, portions not showing as hidden when they should)  I need all parts that are set as Phantom to display in a different color in the idw. How I can assign the Phantom parts to a different layer?  These are existing parts of the install and need to be displayed differently.  Seems like Phantom would work best, if I could control the color of the display in the idw. I cannot do this line by line, since there will be many parts all the time!

AutoCAD VB :: Phantom Text Objects In DWG File?

I am attempting to use VBA in Acad 2007 to renumber a series of text objects based on their relative positions.  (The text is numerals only.)   The programs works well at first, but if I erase some of the text objects, it crashes.  I noticed that if I start with 20 text objects in the drawing, and then erase 1, AutoCad reports 19 objects selected while ssetObj.Count is still equal to 20. Apparently the erased objects are still being returned by ssetObj.SelectOnScreen.  To make sure I ran the example from a new drawing with only the text objects.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Phantom Line Showing Up In Plots?

May 23, 2011

I have a phantom line showing up when I plot this particular drawing. When I plot this drawing, do a preview or plot to a pdf, I'm getting a phantom diagonal line going across the drawing. There is no object there in model space or paper space!!! I havn't left on any hidden/locked layers etc. I'm not doing anything I don't normally do with drawings like this. It's just a topographic map of a residence with a surface. I've purged, audited, recovered, even started a new drawing and inserted the componets and nothing fixes this. I feel like throwing my computer out the window and applying at Wal-mart.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Phantom Lines Appearing In PDF Plots

Jun 19, 2013

I'm having a problem with "phantom" lines appearing in PDF plots.

The Situation:

The firm I work for often uses Excel tables in Autocad LT 2013. I have learned through experience its better to use a linked table, but in this situation only paste special is an option due to time constraints.

Basically when we try to plot a DWG with tables specially pasted in the drawing space phantom lines appear.

But only when we try to convert to PDF. In the plot preview everything is fine, but when the PDF is created vertical lines appear in the tables on the actual PDF.

I've tried many different options to fix this but so far the only thing that has worked is, converting the DWG to a DWF and opening in Design Review. From there I plot to PDF and everything is fine, no lines appear.

In the DWG I have tried tweaking the Plot Quality for the "pasted" tables to no avail.

The drawing is relatively new...with minimal objects in it. Just some Feature Lines and 3D Polylines.  I have Sites in my drawing...but no parcels. Only thing in the sites are the feature lines.  When I do a Q SELECT for the parcels it selects and highlights my feature lines, which is weird.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Sequential Part Number Generator

Nov 15, 2011

I'd like to create a part number generator using iLogic.  The rule would run as follows:

If the iProperty "Part Number" was not blank or the same as the file name (as Inventor default), then a question box would pop up asking if you would like to overwrite the part number.  If one were to select yes, then the following would happen.

iLogic would open an xls that is on the network.  The xls would have two columns.  Column A would be the part number, B would be the filename associated with that part number.

Column A (the part number) is a sequential count in the form of 6 or seven digits.  The format would be something like =TEXT(ROW(A1),"JFRC-000000")

Everytime the part number generator rule is triggered, it would create a new part number on the next blank row, copy this part number to the Part Number iProperty and assign the file in which the iLogic rule was executed to column B in the xls, save and close.

If, when the rule is triggered, the Part Number property is blank or the same as the file name, the user would not be asked if they would like to overwrite the part number. This rule would be triggered manually from a form.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Add Sequential Number As Suffix To Specific Attribute?

Nov 11, 2011

I currently have a LISP routine that will replace the value of a specific attribute name with sequential numbers in the order that the blocks are selected. Like TCOUNT for attributes - and it only looks for a specific attribute Tag Name called "ID".

However, what I want it to do now, instead of just putting the number into the attribute value, I want the number to be a suffix to the existing default tag value of the tag named "ID" which is "ADDRESS:" for some blocks and "ELEVATION:" for other blocks but the tag name that the routine always has to filter for is "ID". That way the user can pick anywhere on the block - not being forced to pick the tag we want to add numbers to.

What I need the new LISP to do is append a space and then a number to the existing tag value in the block, so that the result would look like "ADDRESS: 1", "ADDRESS: 2", "ADDRESS 3" or "ELEVATION: 1", ELEVATION: 2", etc. depending on whatever the default value for the tag "ID" is.

there are several hundred different block names - but they all have a Tag Name of "ID" - whose default value is sometimes "ADDRESS:" and sometimes "ELEVATION:".

AutoCAD 2010 :: Attributes In Blocks

Mar 20, 2012

I'm working on creating some blocks for our office.  Basically it is a simple block with a few lines that remain and then a couple attributes you can click on and change.  I have added the attribute and all is working well.

My only issue is I would like to make the text in the attributes to be bold.  For some reason I can't see to do this.  Is it not possible.

Basically I want to try and get some of the attributes to stand out more than others.  I tried changing the color and the lineweight of the attibute (which worked the color is different) but when it prints it doesn't change at all.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Blocks And Layer 0

Mar 1, 2013

Many of the blocks my company uses were created with the linework within the block on Layer 0, and set to ByLayer.

When I insert it into a drawing, I put the block on a layer other than 0, and use that layer to control the color & linetype.

If I Xref a drawing, and want to turn off or freeze a layer I use the Freeze and Off buttons in the layers section of the ribbon (I'm working in 2012).  This way, I don't have to figure out what layer an object is on to turn it off.

Here's the problem:  When I try to freeze or turn off a layer by clicking on a block, it doesn't do anything to the layer that the block is on.  It tries to effect layer 0.  Even if I use the list command to find out what layer an object is on, it says it's on 0.

I found this article that seems to explain how to use layer 0 in blocks: [URL] ....

It seems my company is doing things exactly as that writer recommends.  But it still seems incredibly faulty.

What is the best way to design and work with blocks?  I always try to avoid using layer 0, but that would waste a lot of time trying to override the company standards.
