AutoCAD Architecture :: Add Beams To A Layout Of Columns
Sep 29, 2011I have been trying to add beams to a layout of columns and some of them (not all) are behaving oddly. Instead of the beam trimming square at the side of the columns, the column and beam are joining with a mitered connection. The same is happening with some of the intersecting beams...a 45 degree miter on each beam.
There must be some setting that I have inadvertantly changed but I cannot find what it is. Changing trimming parameters in the Properties panel that seem like they should be involved, has no effect. And neither does cycling, via the Control key, the connection parameter when the beams are placed.

When I look to place a default Steel Column from the Design tab of the Design tool palette, I see no optoins re: the make-up of the column, only the length - the column only shows as a generic extruded box. Are there I-Beam, C-Beam profiles loaded anywhere in the content that I can access.

May 18, 2011I just downloaded a student version of Autocad for a uni assignment.upload a drawing/template I could use as a template.
I just need appropriate layers to draw some columns / beams and slab with basic reo in Metric format (model will be drawn in mm's). A simple A3 layout with title block would also be nice
I have tried googling for template downloads but all I got was a bunch of sites telling me how to make my own (rather not waste my time) and that Autocad should have come with some available (none had more than 2 layers).

It keeps giving me an error saying that excel won't allow it... excel has had more columns than 256 since 2007!?!?!
Or is there a third party extraction tool that I can use that extracts information in the same way the AutoCAD one does?

Sep 24, 2013I currently work for a construction company, we mostly focus on roadway rehabilitaion. We recieve DOT paper plans containing the construction plans and cross sections. I have been till now using the cross sections to build the roadway in Agtek, which is the software we use, then from there I can do my takeoff for excavation, utlites and areas. We have the 2012 BIM software and i'm very intersted in using that to rebuild the plans so I can preform the takeoff just as the DOT does as well as to model the utilities. Also i'm intersted in creating the model to show the estimators and the higher ups, so we can create a phasing plans, traffic plans or how we would want to handle the roadway rehab in general. I'm a novice in terms of Civil 3D, so this would be something i'd be practicing at home first.

Oct 21, 2012The thumbnails in my Organizer are slow to load, and if I move the slider bar to the left to show more thumbnails they are replaced with the hourglass, and the comment 'building thumbnails' appears bottom left. The thumbnails do not reappear unless I increase the size to five columns or less.
I have disabled media analysis in preferences; I have run a repair on the catalogue; I have selected all the photos and selected 'update thumbnail'. None of this has worked.
I am running PE9 on a Mac, and have about 20,000 photos in my catalogue.
Revit :: Cost Estimating In Schedules - How To Combine Categories
Jul 27, 2012I created schedules inc. cost for Light fixtures, Lighting control etc. For each of the 3 schedules I was able to add the cost (based on the cost I put into the family). The problems I'm having are:
if i show the cost in the schedule view, it will show up on the sheet set. i just want to use if for cost estimating, but not show on the plans (i don't want to manually hide/un-hide all the time when i want to see the cost) - i could duplicate that schedule and hide the cos columns on the one i put on the sheet. but that seems archaic and doubles the number of schedules i don't see a way to combine the cost. Right now I only have 3 schedules and can add those up in my head, but like to automatically do that for many schedules. i know i could export to Excel.. but that takes away the whole "Revise instantly" idea and I want to be able to see right away what cost changes when I add or delete items.

Nov 4, 2012I have a problem with aligning the model. At the beginning I could not see drawings in correct position after putting them from assembly window to drawing one( please see the screenshot). I solved it in the drawing mode( I set them straight so I can do engineering drawings), but I am wondering if there is a possibility to set any object in assembly mode horizontally vertically so in the drawing mode it will not show incorrectly after adding them. Also I made a drawing file for Auto Cad mechanical and parts are also set tilted.

Now when I use the same command and reset, then choose Imperial Scales, it resets scales to only Architectural. I tried to make a change using_AECDWGSCALESETUP. The dwg units are already in Feet and the Type is set to decimal. How do I get back to engineering scales?

So, is it true that DLL from VB.NET (or C# and C++) is so vulnerable from reverse engineering? if yes, what is any practice to add security to it?

AutoCad :: Easy Solid Export To Structural Engineering Software?
Jan 28, 2013knew any structural engineering software that can easily import AutoCAD solids and turn them into a mesh to perform a finite element analysis on them.
I have used SAP2000 and it is a little bit of pain to make complicated non-linear forms as a mesh in AutoCAD and then export them to SAP2000. (I do not believe there is a solid to mesh command in autocad yet, if so that would be very nice).

Jan 13, 2012I am trying to model I-Beams to s solid. I put 3d polyline around the front "I" then a path down the middle of the beam. I have tried extrude, sweep with aligned to path, and sweep not aligned - then put a patch on both ends. Use the command "surfsculpt" and it will not convert due to not being water tight. I delete the 3d poly and path line before patching.
We only have 2011 - Civil 3D.

May 23, 2012Working in a assembly and just edited an existing note in the Engineering notebook. Clicked the "X" to close the assembly.... what? no prompt to save the file?
Just checked adding a note to a ipt and it doesn't dirty the file either, so if you only add a new engineering note, you have to save it, cause it won't prompt you before closing.

Oct 27, 2011In my part, there was already an existing Engineering note.
I wanted to add another note. I added my new note, but it does not show up in the browser. I can right click on the note note > Display note and both notes are shown in the engineering notebook. When I exit out of the notebook and go back to Inventor, still not there. Here is a short video of what I am seeing.

Now I if I add another note, then all of them will show up in the browser. This is not the first time that I have seen this, but just thought I would bring this up.
This part was just made with a copy design from Vault. What is weird, is that if I go to the part that this was copied from and add the note, it shows up correctly then. Its like something is getting hosed in the copy design process.

Aug 13, 2013I'm running Inventor 2013 professional and I want to design a steel structure for stress analysis. But I can't find any DIN H-beams (HEB, HEA in accordance to DIN 1025) in the "insert frame member selection".
Isn't it possible to use DIN H-beams in Inventor frame generator? Can I add my own parts to the library for stress analysis?

Oct 25, 2011I have a situation where need to frame a W14x30 into a W14x61. When I perform the Notch command, the W14x30 is only partially notched. The W14x61 is taller by .05 in. I tried to notch the W14x30 by ending it at the flange edge of the W14x61. I also tried to notch by ending the W14x30 on the other side of the W14x61, both attempts yielding no results.

I've tried changing the view to Hidden, but that gives me the top of the roof, not the underside... Also, many of the floor items (such as kitchen cabinets) are showing.

Oct 22, 2013We are currently working on a very large master development plan submittal here at work. As part of the MDP, we are expected to deliver quantities calculations to the client.
I don't particularly feel like going through our entire proposed subdivision and counting up water fittings and whatnot. I am working on a dynamic block (attached in 2012 file format) that has visibility states for all of the different water fittings that we will be using for this project.
Is it possible to use either a lookup parameter or a block properties table to produce a quantities count, so to speak? I.e., to somehow get a count of all of the instances of this block in a particular drawing and how many instances are in what visibility state? So this table would tell you 1/32 bend: 15, 1/4 bend: 35, etc.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Deleting Pay Item Quantities
Mar 30, 2012We are just starting to use the pay items through QTO Manager & Takeoff. Everything was working fine until...I deleted a hatched area that represented a Butt Joint quantitiy. Now when I go into Compute Quatity Takeoff & select the Compute button, this quantity that was deleted is still there. And, since it is now deleted, I can't find a way to remove it from the Butt Joint quantity. I've tried using "Removes pay item from specific objects." I've tried deleting all my quantities and starting from scratch.

Feb 5, 2010I have a purchase component set that includes 2 identical pcs. i.e. part number xxx01(.iam) consists of part01(.ipt) and part01(.ipt). Typically I would place xxx01(.iam) into an upper level assembly, and get a BOM count of xxx01 QTY = 1. This works fine.
Now I have a similar component xxx02(.iam) that includes part02(.ipt) and part02(.ipt). With this component I use only half of the purchase component set in many instances. Therefore I would like to have the ability to place part02(.ipt) as a single part and have a BOM count of xxx02 QTY = 0.5.
The best solutions I have found is either to place xxx02(.iam) and manually override the BOM count to 0.5, which is error prone, and inevitably causes an issue each time.
Or I can set the Part Number of part02(.ipt) to be xxx02, and create a User Parameter in part02(.ipt) called BOM_QTY and set it to 0.5 ul and then set the Unit Quantity (using the BOM tab of the part file's Documents Settings) to use the User Parameter. The result of this is a BOM count of xxx02 QTY = 0.5ul.This method displays ul in the Parts List, which of course is an issue as well.

Jul 14, 2009In five years using Inventor I've never seen this- I can't get it the parts list or BOM to register the quantities. Each box comes up with "Unknown Error" and it will not allow manual override to update those quantities.
