I am creating columns and beams for a power plant and a few of my assemblies that I have drawn in thus have a reverse - is there an easy way to reverse the assembly?
View 3 RepliesI have been trying to add beams to a layout of columns and some of them (not all) are behaving oddly. Instead of the beam trimming square at the side of the columns, the column and beam are joining with a mitered connection. The same is happening with some of the intersecting beams...a 45 degree miter on each beam.
There must be some setting that I have inadvertantly changed but I cannot find what it is. Changing trimming parameters in the Properties panel that seem like they should be involved, has no effect. And neither does cycling, via the Control key, the connection parameter when the beams are placed.
We are using ACA 2011. When I look to place a default Steel Column from the Design tab of the Design tool palette, I see no optoins re: the make-up of the column, only the length - the column only shows as a generic extruded box. Are there I-Beam, C-Beam profiles loaded anywhere in the content that I can access.

I just need appropriate layers to draw some columns / beams and slab with basic reo in Metric format (model will be drawn in mm's). A simple A3 layout with title block would also be nice
I have tried googling for template downloads but all I got was a bunch of sites telling me how to make my own (rather not waste my time) and that Autocad should have come with some available (none had more than 2 layers).
Is there any program to automatically calculate the amounts of beams, columns or elements of engineering in autocad?

I have block references that I have created that have block attributes such as qty, plant name and size. I know in other software drafting you can generate a plant list or parts list, but can't find the method in autocad either in help option or in my autocad book.

I have looked at the PnPProjectFolder object but am unable to determine how to create a new project folder.
I do not understand how I obtain a folderGUID or the best way to discover if the folder exists. (I can loop through the ProjectItems collection).
We need to add 30 folders, including sub-folders, setting their paths as we are not using virtual folders.
I am not at a stage where I have any code worth publishing here.
I have a issue merging multiple parts into one assembly. When i do the constrains the parts are able to move but the pieces break part. I need to be able to move the whole assembly with all parts together without them breaking apart.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm new in use of iLogic and tried to use it by myself (and internet). But I have some difficulties.
Here is the open point, I wold like to create an assemblies with different length (and also some different part inside).
So I made some iLogic rules to make a configuration of my .iam with length selection.
I made rules to show or hide parts with is linked to the proper length.
I made rules to switch from a positional representation to another one and do the same for level of details representation and for view representation.
All is good in my .iam.
My problem is comming now. When I would like to put my .iam in a .idw in several views (corresponding to different length), my views are the all the same. I can't see one length per view even if I select the proper representation, the proper position and the proper level of detail.
At the end, all this work is to have all views length to be able to make in one drawing all length block in autocad.
I am working in an Inventor Assembly .iam, I have about 250 fasteners (screws) that are constrained to a flat washer and lock washer. I would like to put them in as a single unit (sub assembly if you will) and then promote or explode them in the top level so that my bom has 250 screws, 250 washers, and 250 lock washers all at the same level, not associated to one another except thru the constraints that were entered in the original assembly. I have tried Promote but that doesn't work because it removes the washers from the original file and I end up with only 1 instance of the assembly. Am I approaching this incorrectly? Is there a better way? I run across this scenario with different components quite often.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf you have created a sub assembly and inserted it into an upper level assemby, is there a way to bust up the sub assembly at that level?
The issue arising is the individual components need to be called out on the upper level, but in the drawing are all showing up as the same balloon.
I have a series of 3d walls in autocad Architecture 2012 and an existing CAD 2d structural column layout.
I need to remove/cut or trim the wall around the HSS columns on a floor plan. The walls show the consttruction of the wall and I can't seem to create a void or mass to cut out around the column. Is there an easy way of doing this so that I can just place this in a block to auto cut the wall. My hope was to create a column block so that I can just drop the HSS columns wherever i want them.
I know i can use a wipeout to clear the area however, that is not ideal as we have other linework that need to be visible.
I am completely baffled by what is happening to my text. I am using a Windows 7, 64 bit computer and CorelDraw X6, and am trying to create a 3" round button graphic. About two weeks ago, I created a photo button and wanted to put white text on top of the button. This worked fine, and I sent the proof to the client.
They wanted to change the text and so I went in to change the text to what they wanted. That's when things went weird... Now, when I retype the text to insert it on the round path, I position it and then when I click off the text, the text is no longer white, but rather it has an orange outline and no fill!
I look at the color boxes and yes, the fill is white with no outline. I am no expert by far, but have been using Corel for many years. I do notice that whenever Windows does their little "updates" my computer gets wonky and they did about two of those updates in the last two weeks.
Today, I did a system restore back to 9/12/12, but it is still happening.
I work with Autodesk Plant Design Suite Ultimate 2013, and I can't find Tube and Pipe?
Is it installed in this version?
I'm running Inventor 2013 professional and I want to design a steel structure for stress analysis. But I can't find any DIN H-beams (HEB, HEA in accordance to DIN 1025) in the "insert frame member selection".
Isn't it possible to use DIN H-beams in Inventor frame generator? Can I add my own parts to the library for stress analysis?
I have a situation where need to frame a W14x30 into a W14x61. When I perform the Notch command, the W14x30 is only partially notched. The W14x61 is taller by .05 in. I tried to notch the W14x30 by ending it at the flange edge of the W14x61. I also tried to notch by ending the W14x30 on the other side of the W14x61, both attempts yielding no results.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am creating a corridor with custom assemblies on two alignments. the alignments are not parallel and graded independently.
Between the two assemblies I would like to fill from one assembly to the other with a dynamic link. I can't do this as a target to featureline etc as it is within the same corridor. We have created the link with a target but this was done by creating a non-dynamic featureline from the corridor and using that as the target. This is obviously not great as far as keeping the corridor dnamic is concerned.
So I would like to customise a subassembly to allow it to target a marked point on an adjacent assembly.how the SAC tools (Get marked poinit or set marked point etc.) can be used to do this. The help file is less than useful. I am still on 2012 and dont have access to the 2014 SAC yet but will do shortly.
I use Inventor tube and pipe heavily for my job, and work with very large models that incorporate architectural data imported from a Revit file, as well as using Navisworks (both are 2014 version). Since Inventor doesn't support mutiple cores on a muti-core processor (except for when rendering in INventor Studio), would using a NVIDIA quadro and Tesla card combo would give me more processing power. I know there are other programs, (3dsMax, Showcase, FEA, and CFD) that can off load some of the processors number crunching to the Tesla GPU. But I haven't been able to find anything as to whether Inventor or Navisworks cand do that under there "normal" modes.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIm trying to figure out if Inventor's dynamic simulation can simulate gravity on rope or cable shaped solids.
I have a power cord design that I want to display with its cords in various natural positions (IE Flat on a table, hanging from a wall, etc). (see image attached)
My questions are as follows:
1. Can dynamic simulation simulate a rope/cable type object falling with gravity to a natural hanging position?
2. If it can, can I also then save the resulting new shape/model and export it to showcase for rendering (or render within Inventor)?
3. I am currently creating the cords using the sweep command. Using this seems like it may cause problems for the simulation. If I use the wiring harness design part of inventor to create the power cables can it then simulate the cables naturally falling and resting due to the forces of gravity? I know the wiring harness design area is built in, but I have never even opened it before..
Is there a way to get columns in form? I would like to put
Hole F Type { List the types} Hole F Location {input box}

Hole G Type { List the types} Hole G Location {input box}
If not this form will be off the monitor.
I'm doing a revision rearrangement and would like to add to the BOM New, Existing, and Relocated properties. The problem is that each individual component may be unique. Ie. I have a desk w/ 3 identical monitors. One monitor is existing and the others are new. I'd like to have the BOM show that I have 3 monitors, 2 are new and 1 is existing. The BOM would have 4 columns, one for the total number of parts and 3 for the New, Existing, and Relocated counts.
I don't mind if the new columns need to be manually updated.
Is there a way to set the decimal place for the columns in Autodesk Inventor 2011? I have a length column I am trying to use for the p/n but I need it to be 2 places and they show up from zero to 4 dec places. I have set it inside excel but it never retains the setting.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use assemblies when creating a corridor. The Tool Pallette is emply but I can drag the assembiles in from the Catalog. I've also created an assembly using the ASC. Neither work when I try to use them. The error message is attached.
I'm using a network installation and I do not have the option of changing it to a DVD installation.
Is there any way that values in BOM columns would automatically change depending on the characteristics of the part?
Example:
I have a parametric metal rod that depending on its length has a different part number assigned to it in our company's catalog.
When I change its length in parametric assembly (50" rod is has different number than 70" rod) I want the part number to change as well in the "part number" column.
I got this routine off the In The Trenches blog and am trying to change it, some. For some reason when I export I can only get 4 columns to export. So what the heck am I missing here? The Part List I am using has all the colums I am trying to export on it.

Is there is any way to re-arrange the columns in my ipart table without having to delete all of my parameters and then adding them back in the order that I want them to appear in? I would like certain information grouped together instead of having to scroll back and forth across the row to edit certain parameters.

I would like to be able to export the description column of a BOM to an excel file, and exclude all the other data. I can't see any reference to doing this in the API. We have almost 20 columns so deleting them once the file is made is a bit of a pain.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI noticed on my parts list that I had an item that was listed as *Varies* in the description, and part # columns I have set. Seen it before, so I went to my BOM and saw that it's a part that I've published to the CC.
Thought, OK, go and replace the 12 parts that I needed to. Tried the "Replace All" and it still came up on my BOM as *Varies*.
Went through and replaced each part in the assembly one at a time. Still shows up in BOM as *Varies*.
I thought that when I publish parts to the CC, they become Read-Only, and I can't edit any of the iProperties or the part itself.
In the attached BMP, I've cut out the offending row in my BOM. All the columns are greyed out to where I can't edit anything, as designed...
Why would these published parts come up as *Varies* in 2 of my columns if the values I've set when I published them would never change??
