I had tried to draw in different units in autcad other than inches, but fail to find i way. I tried going on tutorials, but all they say was to type in:
"Type in Unit in command
Press enter
A option will pop up
Change Units to whichever.
Okay so I tried this, and I change it to feets. The problem is, that whenever i draw a line, it would always be in inches. I want to find a way to draw in feets, so how I can do this.

I have a drawing at AutoCad and i want to change its coordinate like that
X'= X
Y'= -Z
Z'= Y
I know how to do it with the points (export their coordinates in a text and then transform the text and then import again at an Autocad) . But thus i loose all the line, arcs, etc .

We have some machines which seem to work in imperial maesurement a dn others which work in metric. it is frustrating when trying to insert a map block that is metric and is inserting into a drawing which is set up as imperial. We have tried using the - dwgunits to change to mm, and then using insunits , insunitsdef source and insunitsdeftarget to 0, this works when the PC is currentyl in use. when shut down and restarted it reverts back to imperial setting.
Am i right in thinking this is something that needs to be done at the software installation stage to make it default to metric everytime?

Is it possible to change a Parts Only parts list on a drawing into a Structured parts list? When a new parts list is created and you select the view it automatically chooses parts and greys out, preventing you from actually changing it manually. Is it possible to get around this without having to start a new drawing?

I have a slightly unusual query that I can't seem to find a solution for elsewhere. I have an existing OS plan that is 'off grid', and would like to adjust the vertices at the ends of all the existing lines and polylines so that they all sit on a grid point. Is there a quick command or script that does this?

I have a problem with my autocad. The administrator started me out on AutoCAD 2012 global.
The problem existed then so. Now he has me on AutoCAD 2012 Imperial . The problem still exists.
When I open an existing drawing that I have never opened with my version of Autocad. It opens the drawing in Metric units. I do not want Metric units. I would like it in Imperial units. Every time I open an existing drawing, I have to change the units to Architectural.

When I create new mtext in my drawings I normally like to have a zero width.
Instead I'm creating new mtext and it has a set width that I am unable to change in the properties window.
I have no problems with changing the justification point.
Is this a setting that I can change?
Plus is it posible to change the default so that I don't have to worry about changing it every time?

We need to xref a drawing with a different unit. When I go into the drawing file I want to xref and use the "-DWGUNITS" command I change it from feet to inches and use Architectural. Answer yes to all questions and certain objects disappear. Most of the objects are pline or spline objects. Here is what I see in the AutoCAD Text Window:
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD3C>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD3E>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD3F>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD41>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD42>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD44>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD45>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD47>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity 1956F>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity 19570>
There a lot more of scaling failed messages. too many to show. How can I xref in these drawings with different units without objects disappearing?

I've noticed an anomoly when working with XREF's and changing units. With the company that I work, we receive client drawings, XREF them in, and put our drawings on top of them. For this particular project, we have about 150 drawings that we are working with. The biggest problem is the drawings we receive are in various units, and we draw in millimeters. So when we go to XATTACH, we have to make sure the XREF drawing's units are set to mm, although most of them are not. So we navigate to the XREF drawing, open it, open the UNITS window, change it to millimeters, accept, save, and close the drawing. However, when we go back into the actual drawing to XATTACH again, the unit change in the XREF has not taken effect. Reopening the drawing and launching UNITS will show that, indeed, the unit change was not saved. Doing it a second time will take effect, but why do we have to do this dance in the first place?
This problem occurs about 50% of the time. I can't seem to find a pattern with it. If I make a change to the XREF drawing itself as well as changing the units (like moving the pan or zoom), but to no avail.

Our office created a library of blocks for use in our dwgs in the early days of Autocad. Since installing MEP2013 when inserting the blocks many of them have mysteriously changed from inches to millimeter units. We have to go back to each block(dwg) and change the units and rescale the blocks. We upgraded from MEP2012 and they were working fine.

I am experiencing with an old drawing I am trying to open. The problem seems to lie in that there is a hidden scale factor being applied to the dimension.
I draw a line that is 1.27 long. When I dimension the line the resulting value is .635. I have double checked that my primary units are set to a scale factor of 1 and the problem still persists. Even more strange is that if I set the primary unit scale to 1.5 the resulting dimension value is correct at 1.905, with primary scale of 2 the dimension is 2.54, etc. I have used AutoCAD for many years and never run into this issue.I am dimensioning in the model space when this occurs and using AutoCAD LT 2012.

I am familiarizing myself with the existing drawings here. I am working on version 08 (was previously on 07). I opened a dwg in 08 and received an error message "Newer AEC Object Detected" stating that some commands would not be available. With no other option I opened the drawing and discovered it was in metric. I went up to the Format tab as I normally would to change the Units to Architectual and discovered that there was no option to change the units. Even typing in Units in the command bar didnt do anything. It seems as if this drawing was originally created in 07 and now OPENS in 08 but you lose commands? It used to be that you couldnt even open something it was created in a older version, no? Luckily a PC in the office does have 07 and I was able to open it there to change the units over but I cant do this every time.

I have drawn a couple of small buildings. I'm using meters and plotting to A3. For some reason the in the layouts I have to put in a scale of 15:1 and 8:1 to see the building when I print.
I have looked at some other buildings that people have drawn, they are of a similar size in real terms. However they are plotting to 1:25.

What if you are making a floor plan, and in that floor plan you are making a computer room that has two desks side by side (when put together) they measure 6' long.
Also, there's a simcard for the slim cell phone, on the desk.
How do you address this issue with respect to AutoCAD? Can you switch units mid stream?

my problem is very simple:
1.- I started a new drawing, changed the project unit settings (manage>project units> etc...)
2.- I saved the new drawing as a template
3.- I started a new drawing from the previous template I created in step 2, but doesn't keep the units as I set up.

I have a drawing that was given to me by an architect with a scale 1:250 (0.004 in viewport). The architect drew everything in millimeters and it's a Site Plan, why ? I do not know. The units in the drawing are decimal-millimeters.
The page set-up for layout 1 was for 24x36 drawing size (typ.)I know need to make a layout 2 for a sheet size 11x17 but I can not get my viewport to scale correctly. So, if a 24x36 sheet size had a VP with scale 0.004 (1:250) then what is the scale for a sheet size 11x17 ?

I have an old dwg that I used to add new data to. I also inserted a block produced by Revit to get a building elevation. I am not sure when or how it happend, but my drawing scale units are stuck on arch. I am talking about the bottom right hand corner of the screen on the status bar where there is the spot to set drawing scale. When I open by clikcing the arrow all the scales are in architectural units. I can add a custom scale of 1"=100', but it does not otherwise appear in the list. I wasn't going to wrry about it, but when I layout a plan/pro series they do not seem to be scaling correctly (and I cannot find a place to specify what scale I want the views to be at). UNITS, -DWGUNITS & -AECDWGUNITS don't fix it, they are all set to decimal, etc. Using the seetings tab to change the drawing settings, everything is set to feet, there is no place to specify arch units, the 100 scale drawing is shown as a custom scale.
This is C3D release 2012, on a 64bit Win7 Pro machine, everything is up to date.
Where I can change the units for the drawing scale?
