when i add a mask to a layer, and define it to hide everything within the mak boundries, then everything outside the mask is visible. Is there a way to now change the opacity of what is within the mask bounries? Basically to animate revealing the stuff that is hidden by the mask.
View 6 RepliesIn the animation I am working on, I need an object to instantly go from 100% opacity to 0% opacity. The problem is, even if you use the opacity of the layer as a keyframe, the object will not instanlty vanish, even if it is only on for the timeruler for a quick amount of time.
I need a tool that will drop from 100% opacity to 0% instantly.
When I have a masked layer and try to drag-select other items on other layers outside of it, it still gets selected if the image area happens to be located within the selection range. Or in other words: why would anything outside of the masked area get selected at all, when the point of a mask in not just to hide what's outside, but also to 'deactivate' it,so that the masked area is all we are working with. This didn't happen before, may be those were older versions of photoshop.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn the side of sheets created with the Create Sheets command there is a grey area that masks out the referenced files at the match line. Is there a way to reproduce this without having View Frames and using the Create Sheets? In other words, I a manually creating these plan sheets and I wonder if there is a better way of masking than using wipeout on the sheet tabs.

After creating a color range channel, broadly, I used the quick mask tool and was working on tightening up on the details. Reloading the selection showed the marching ants around the updated area, however the red mask still showed the original area, not the newly updated area.
Is it possible to update the masked area w/ the red painted area as well as the marching ants?
We have a blocked out text area that does not want to be erased with the masked out text function. How can we remove an area drawn with the masked command.

(I am using version 2.6.12). I noticed that when I move the Opacity Slider, nothing happens on the image. I tried that on Windows, Linux (I am using Gimp version 2.6.11 on OpenSUSE 11.4), and Mac. I read somewhere that I need to go to Image --> Modify and select RGB. But it is already selected.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to fade some text from 100% opacity to 0% over 45 frames, and end my layer when it gets to 0, (Thus making it dissapear?). My text stays there with 0% opacity (Slightly visable), untill the next layer begins.. I don't understand why I can see it when the layer it's on has ended. I preview it with audio using num 0.
This has happened to me multiple times and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Some of my text fades and dissapears normally, but I don't understand what's different about it. I'm probably doing lots wrong, but I'm pretty new and you have to start somewhere! This is also my first post, hope it's in the right forum.

The reson why it dissapeared is because when i pressed L-L on my keyboard to show the audio waves, but instead i must have pressed something wrong or maybe the layer the layer want selected.
I am trying to make a video where one man reaches his hand through the other mans chest and I have it all lined up perfectly by changing each video's opacity to 50% but I was wondering how to make it like opacity is in effect but each one is 100% where i can see both people fully. How could I make it to where it looks like they are in the same video together just like opacity does but make them full instead of see through.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have animated text where some words are black at 50% opacity and some words are white at full opacity. They are on a textured background. I need to give the other editors a version of the text married to the background and one that is just text with an alpha. When I export it and bring it into Premiere, the "married" version looks fine, but the black in the version of the text with alpha appears more transparent. I can fix this by changing the blend mode to Hard Light or Luminosity, but this alters the color of the white text slightly (and I should note that the blend mode in AE was normal). I can of course work around this by exporting my black and white text separately.

It does it every 4-6 times which is really really often since you brush about 10 times every 3 seconds or so when digital painting especially when shading, lighting, blending, etc with brushing.
Why does it do this? I cant recall when it started doing this but I think it was either when I updated from CS4 to CS6 or maybe it just randomly kicked in. I already updated my drivers and re-installed my tablet.
I have comp A (imported from PS) that's a rectangle background with text & lines above it - which is inside comp B.
While on B I'm reducing the opacity of A from 100 to 0, normally over 10 frames, and the text and lines' opacity goes down normally... except the rectangle background! It's opacity is staying the same during the first 9 frames and then going from 100 to 0 in the last one.
As an experiment I replaced that PS layer with a solid from AE and it works fine. The whole comp's opacity reduced gradually from 100 to 0 over 10 frames.
What causes some layers to behave as described above?
I'd like to create custom effects using paths. Is it possible to distort a (rectangle) area along a given path? Let's suppose for instance I have a gradient in a rectangle area and I drew an open path manually with a few nodes forming waves, loops; I'd like to have the rectangle area "follow" the path and be distorted accordingly. Mathematically that would suppose:the rectangle area would be stretched to fit the path length andthe rectangle area could be "bent" using its gravity centre as a reference point. That'd be useful for creating smoke effects for instance. Can Gimp 2.6 do this or is there a plugin?

My goal is to create a mask on the solid layer to hide a certain area of what I drew... but it doesn't change anything.
I noticed when I add another effect to the layer (such as curves) the mask does hide that area of the effect, but thats not exactly what I'm trying to do.
ps. I have After Effects CS6
I am trying to create tilt shift effects. issue in selecting focus and blur areas. I do the following - Go to Quick Mask(Press 'Q') --> Select Gradient (Press 'G') --> Then I draw a vertical line to define the focus area. Usually a relatively darker red color used to appear as a band. But suddenly I see a very vague red color. And when I exit Quick Mask (Press 'Q') again the marching ants selects the entire picture and not the focus and blur areas.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering how Photo Shop modifies a file that's had a layer mask applied to it, because I'm having a peculiar problem with layer masked images. I ran the following test because I needed to mask an image my sister sent me, & the image was getting messed up when it was scaled on her website:
I created 2 PNGs.
(1) With one, I created at a black & white image & then replace the white with transparency by applying a layer mask.
(2) For the other, I started with a transparent background & added black. No layer mask.
When I open the image which had a layer mask applied (1) in one of the other programs on my computer, the mask is inverted! All the white from the original image shows, & the black is now transparent. That makes me think the layer mask is stored somehow in the PNG file. And it has a different problem when her website scales it - it turns solid gray.
I don't have any problems whatsoever with the image that wasn't created with a mask (2).
Unfortunately, with the image my sister sent me, I don't have the option to start over with a transparent BG, & don't want to cut out the background because I'm trying not to lose the partially transparent pixels, or leave pixels that have the original background partially showing through.
What can I do so that the PNG file created by applying a mask stores what I see, and doesn't need to store the layer mask? I'm using Adobe CS5, version 12.02, on Mac OS X 10.6.
when I mask an object and put it on a different background photo, the edges are little jittery....doesn't look that smooth. The other problem I face is that the object's color contrast, brightness or color scheme may be very different than the back ground.
So my questions are:
1) When you paste an object in another background after masking, do you apply any filter or something to the edges for it to blend? what do you do?
2) How do make sure that the object your are pasting on a background photo blends so that someone can't point out that this is cut and paste in this picture?
I have an image that I removed the background of and then used Refine Edge to place the newly masked image onto a new layer. I now want to take this newly masked image, scale it down a bit, and bring it into another .PSD. When I copy and paste or drag the layer onto the other .PSD it is not bringing the masked image, but something else. I tried selecting both thumnbails of the layer first though that did not work.

I am using the horizontaly text mask tool but I cannot rotate nor center (both horizontally and vertically) my text before turning it into a layer.
If I rotate and center the text after putting it into a new layer it wont work since the text will move and leave the writing embossed onto the picture.
want to add text to a photo. I want to create a text box that has a masked background( I think it is?) Where the text is laid on a (color of choice) in the text box. Then then the Text is typed on that masked portion on the pic... I know how to do this in Photo scape, and Win7 photo editor, however I cannot find the tool to add white background behind my blue text...F1 unrolls every rabbit hole in Cs6 which one must know the exact phrase to find it.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI used a quick mask to remove a background from an image and when I place the image into Indesign CS2 (Using Photoshop CS2) I can see a small white edge around the masked photo.
This is going to print at 2400 dpi four color and I don't want my customer looking at it and saying it's not up to par.
Is there any way to remove the effect I described?
I installed LT 2013 in November and recently have noticed that the ribbon is masked or overwritten by the banner of my web browser. This only happens when the browser is open and full-sized. If I close or downsize the browser the problem goes away.
If I hover the cursor over the ribbon area the various tools appear, sometimes individually sometimes the entire panel, but never the entire ribbon.
I am using the Windows version of LT with FusionWare on a Mac Pro. Since I only use the Windows platform for Autocad I can't say whether or not this would happen in other programs.
How do I find out the exact size of a graphic or image after it has a clipping mask applied in Illustrator CS4? When you just select the image or do Ctrl+A it shows the entire image size(including the masked unwanted portion) in the transform palette and I just need the final dimensions of the image. How I can find out what the masked image size is?

I have been given a problem that involves a group of objects and images that have been masked. When i duplicate the group, move it and make some changes, on reopen it seems some of the masked images are duplicated and appear in the original position before they were moved?
Although they are masked out they are obviously not good. These images also appear in the link panel without any thumbnails.

As you may see below the tuts Layers Panel is not all that useful b/c the layers aren't named.
When I copy the "Orange one" (which I have assumed the author means the cones basic shape) and Flip it Vertically the shapes that have been masked (the shapes that make the white stripes) become visible as well as the highlights and shades. Also, the highlights and shades do not flip with the object/cone. So, that can't be the way to accomplish the desired effect (which is to create a reflection on the base of the cone).
I decided to make a New Layer on top of all the other layers and then to use the Pen tool to redraw the cones shape flip it and move it to just above the Base Layer shape but rather than having just the right side of this shape visible the entire shape comes through which looks awful ~ as I assume from the picture that this reflection is suppose to reach over to the white highlight strip that goes from on top of the cone, down the cone and onto the base.
I thought I would just check with the experts before I go down a road that may be a dead end.
What I am trying to do can best be described if you happen to have watched some of the Harry Potter movies, where they walk down a staircase that has all the historical paintings on the wall. Unlike standard paintings, these ones take on a life of their own and have movement inside the frame.
I would love to do something similar, albeit in a simpler fashion, by having a large static image on the main track, containing several picture frames, and then pan and zoom around this static image looking at all the moving images (videos) in the picture frames.
One thought I had was to create a very large images (4000 X 3000) containing all the picture frames. Then, in the overlay tracks I would place all the videos that would represent the moving paintings. The videos would be lined up with the picture frames using the picture-in-picture effect, and then I would pan-and-zoom around the static image viewing all the videos as they played simultaneously in the overlay tracks.
I fear there are several problems with this strategy, the central issue being that when I pan-and-zoom the main track, the overlay tracks wont pan-and-zoom with it.... Perhaps I could move the videos around the screen in sync with the pan-and-zoom, but that seems pretty difficult.
Is what I am trying to do even practical in VS Pro X4?
Problems with masked crossing pipe in the profile view? So basically I want to show a manhole with three pipes attached in the profile view and I use style override for pipes in a profile view to show crossing pipe, but crossing pipe gets masked with "Enable part masking" option in the Structure style. So I either can show crossing pipe and projected pipes drafted to center of the structure, or I can see only projected pipes drafted to the structure outer walls, but cannot see crossing pipe.
I would like to see projected (incoming) pipes drafted to the structure outer wall, and crossing pipes. Is that possible? See figure attached.
