Photoshop :: Confining Marquee Opacity To Area?
Mar 27, 2007
I have a logo (in a layer with a drop shadow) and I want to add an 25% opacity marquee oval over the top half.
But I want to keep the background transparent and so don't want the marquee to show off the edges of the logo.
Anyone know how to do this?

I use Photoshop to design interfaces and then cut down the graphics, by using the rectangular marquee tool and selecting the area that I want to save, copy-merged and then paste into a new document, of the correct canvas size according to the selection area, and then save for web..I end up with dozens of open windows all "Untitled" something, unsaved.
Â
All I want is being able to select  an area in my document using the marquee tool and then select from File a save function like "Save selection for web and devices...".
Â
Perhapse this option could be in the "Save for web and devices.." dialog, where you could select from a dropdown the following:
"Entire document" (default)
"The entire selected area"
"Trimmed down selected area"

when i add a mask to a layer, and define it to hide everything within the mak boundries, then everything outside the mask is visible. Is there a way to now change the opacity of what is within the mask bounries? Basically to animate revealing the stuff that is hidden by the mask.

when the eyedropper is selected, and the 'Select sample' button is pushed, no marquee is drawn when selecting the area to be sampled.Actually, it will often leave an XOR artefact at the beginning of the rectangle where the mouse is first clicked. (At WM_LBUTTONDOWN) this would be fixed in update #2 as I use this feature all the time, and having no marquee makes it very awkward to use.It should be an easy fix as marquees are drawn successfully when selecting a rectangular mask area and the Rectangle tool etc., and it seems sensible to me to call the same subroutine for all rubber rectangle actions.

It does it every 4-6 times which is really really often since you brush about 10 times every 3 seconds or so when digital painting especially when shading, lighting, blending, etc with brushing.
Â
Why does it do this? I cant recall when it started doing this but I think it was either when I updated from CS4 to CS6 or maybe it just randomly kicked in. I already updated my drivers and re-installed my tablet.

In the animation I am working on, I need an object to instantly go from 100% opacity to 0% opacity. The problem is, even if you use the opacity of the layer as a keyframe, the object will not instanlty vanish, even if it is only on for the timeruler for a quick amount of time.
Â
I need a tool that will drop from 100% opacity to 0% instantly.

I've recently migrated from AutoCAD 2008 (non-industry specific) to AutoCAD 2010 so I don't know if this was an issue in 2009.
Back in 2008, when I choose the 'window' option when specifying a plot area, AutoCAD would show the workspace so that I could manually select a windowed plot area, and at the same time the whole workspace would be greyed out except the previously active window area.
This was handy, because we can have as many two dozen title-blocks (and therefore separate viewports) in paperspace, and knowing what plot area I last plotted or added as a saved page setup.
In 2010, it no longer does that. I now have to rely on the dashed border to know where the active plot area is/was (checked 'display printable area' in options>display tab) which I personally don't really like using.

How to changes the settings for the "Square Area" in mapcheck's closure summary. When I right-click the dwg name in the Settings tab of Toolspace and choose Edit Drawing Settings, then Ambient Settings, I see the Area settings, but in the closure summary, there is also "Square Area". Why are these both there? It WOULD be nice to show sq. ft. as well as acres, but I can't find anywhere to edit it.

I need to determine whether an area intersects with another area. The left case can be easily determined by Polyline.IntersectWith(Polyline...).But in the right case, the two polygons intersect/overlap each other while polylines do not intersect.
What would be the efficient way to determine the right case polygons are intersecting polygons?

After selecting the area type tool, I try to click and drag but I get an error message: You must click on a non-compound, non-masking path to create text inside a path. This worked before but I must have screwed something up.Â

I am trying to do is figure out how to use the marquee tool to delete the bottom 2/3rds of a rounded rectangle. Here's what I am doing: Clicking on the rounded rectangle and drawing it to the size I want selecting the marquee tool and selecting the area of the rounded rectangle I want to delete. After I selected the area with the marquee tool, I press delete and instead of the area I selected being deleted, the whole layer is deleted instead.

I would like to use the Ellipitical tool for selecting a portion of the circle.
If you can imagine drawing 2 circles with the Ellipitical tool so that they overlap each other until there is just a sliver between the two circles. It's that sliver that I would like to select so that I can fill it in with a colour or touch up tool.

I would like to know how to draw a specific size marquee. I usually click the marquee tool and simply drag vertically and horizontally while watching the "sizing" measures. Is there an easy way to draw, say a 5" x 7" rectangle without having to be so precise with the tool.

I'm having a problem in Photoshop 7.0 where I can't see the borders of the selected area while dragging the cursor. Once I release the mouse button I can see the borders OK, but not while dragging. This makes precision selections difficult. It seem to happenÂwith any tool used to select an area i.e. marquee, lasso, pen, etc.Â

I was working on some web design stuff, and I was using the rectangular marquee heavily. Accidentally I hit some keys, and then the marquee didn't mark a rectangular area anymore, but an odd rectangular-elliptical shape. I didn't change the tools or anything, the rectangular marquee was still selected.

I seem to have turned something on, Photoshop 6.0. Everytime I attempt to use the marquee tool (square) to select a portion of a picture to define a pattern, the ends go round and it feathers it like a vignette....What have I done here? Did I turn something on, and if so, how do you turn it off?

I upgraded to CS2. I have a 266 p4 and 2 gigs of RAM with XP home and Service Pack 2. CS wouldn't install, kept insisting that I enter the original disk, when I had the CS CD already in my computer, so I entered my serial # into my one-month trial and it seemed to work. Every since things have been a bit strange with lots of little, usually unrepeatable incidents. The retangular marquee tool, has been driving me nuts. Often, when I rotate the image slightly to level the horizon, I use the marquee tool and crop command to trim the edges. When I get the dotted line near the margins of the image, the whole screen often goes blank. I have to click the mouse to get the image back and if the dotted line isn't where I want it, I have to start with the tool all over again. Earlier today, when I tried to use the marquee tool, it froze the computer. Cntrl-alt-delete to end program got no response. I had to reboot to recover. Just now I tried to crop after rotating. I outlined the desired area with marquee tool, pulled down the image menu and clicked crop and nothing happened. Sometimes this happens when I work with layers, but I had none this time. I quit and restarted Photoshop. Same problem. Finally, in desperation, I quit CS2 and opened the image with my old PS 5.0 Limited Edition! The marquee tool and crop worked like a champ. My computer is working fine with all the other software except photoshop. This is the most expensive software that I've ever purchase and I'm having lots of problems.
