Jun 27, 2013I have the student version of AutoCAD 2012 on an HP laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium OS. I originally installed AutoCAD in June of 2012. It worked fine for 9 or 10 months but now whenever I select File/Open, File/Save, or File/Save As, AutoCAD stops responding and the spinning blue donut appears. AutoCAD never comes back and I have to close it from Task Manager. I uninstalled AutoCAD and reinstalled it, and the process went smoothly. However I still have exactly the same problem with the File operations. I apply Windows updates, but other than that have not made any changes to the software on the laptop. AutoCAD works fine for everything except the File operations. I am able to save with CTL/S and am able to open AutoCAD files from File Manager.

Feb 12, 2013I found this error a bit strange, my colleague it trying to save a file and this error keeps on coming out (see attachments). When we try to save it, it only saves as a temp file. When we try to open up the temp file and try to save it, it still doesn't allow us to do. Also, when we cancel the save, the original file will be gone and he will lost all of his data. Below are the specs of the computer and version of the AutoCAD.
Computer: DELL Precision T5500
OS: Windows 7 Ult
AutoCAD Version: 2011
Also, we're using ProSteel Series 3 as well. We tried saving the file using ProSteel and just AutoCAD but it didn't do the trick. I've tried some options (listed below) that might get it to work but still no luck.
1. Restart the computer.
2. Repair / Reinstall AutoCAD.
3. Give permission to the folder (read from the forum).

Oct 2, 2012we have a new lab in our district with Autocad 2010 64-bit version installed on HP Compaq 8022 Elite SFF computers. There is 4 GB memory on the computers and a Quadro 400 graphics card. Autocad and Windows 7 64-bit have both been updated to the latest versions. The Autocad application locks up almost every time someone chooses the new document icon, or when they try to 'save as'. Sometimes when they choose to open a new document first, close that dialogue box, then try to choose the new document icon it works ok. But, for the most part, the application is unuesable. Some possible solutions we found online that don't work are to not use the Aero themes (we don't) and to not use Norton AV (we don't).

Sep 21, 2009We are getting ready to deploy 2010 and I am writing a script to set some of the system variables on all the installs.
We have some users with 3rd party programs that won't run in 2010 yet so we will have a few people still running 2007 and 2008. I want to set the default File Save As in my script to 2007 format but I can't seem to find a variable to modify this.
In case I wasn't clear this is the setting found in Options, under the Open and Save tab, in the File Save section.

Now I get a dialog box where I can only save to the default location or manually enter the path and file name

Nov 8, 2012We are having an issue where users are you autocad and are working on the drawing as they go to save Autocad pops up and says someone else is using the drawing and then creates a read only file. We are 99% sure that there is no one else using the drawing.
After a bit of a google on various forums I have came across a post which says that it maybe a network issue with the drawing creating DWL files (locked) and then it taking time to update on the network.

Aug 1, 2013One of our Dell workstations has recently decided it will no longer save our CAD drawings to the network. Never had this issue before this week, haven't changed anything that we are aware of. No one else is having network issues. We have connected the computer to a different network outlet at another station, that has no effect on the problem.
When you attempt to save, if you watch the command line it will tell you "Cannot save drawing to K/Work Order/Project/drawing name.dwg, saved copy to K/Work Order//Project/(misc letters and numbers).tmp"
It then deletes the original drawing from its location and saves this temp file.
3ds Max :: 2014 Doesn't Save Material In Editor
Aug 7, 2013I put a new material in the material editor. However long later, I save the max file and when I come back to it, the material editor does not have the material I previously created in there.
The get it back I have to 'eyedrop' the mesh to retrieve it.I've not seen this before in any version, and I use the compact material editor.
Is this another bug with this version, or is this a strange new feature added?
AutoCAD Inventor :: IDW Save Copy As DXF Or DWG Not Working In 2014
Sep 23, 2013I recently installed Inventor 2014. With Inventor 2013, I was able to do a Save Copy As on an IDW file to save it as either a DXF file or AutoCAD DWG file without any issues. In Inventor 2014, doing this produces the following dialog boxes in succession:
No DXF or DWG is produced. I tried doing this to a new, blank drawing from one of the default IDW templates and I get the same result. What can I do to fix this?

Dec 5, 2013Running Autocad LT 2014 on Win 7 64bit..I believe the Layer States Manager/Editor is broken...
I created 5 layers and drew 5 lines in model space. Then assigned each line to a different layer. I then created 5 new layer states. When I edit those layer states in the layer state manager, I turned on only one layer for each layer state... When I got out of the layer state manager and select any of these 5 layer states, all layers are on.. Also when I delete layers in the layer states editor, get out of it, then go back into it, all those layers are back again..

GIMP :: Doesn't Save TIFF Files On EXIF (2014)
Jan 6, 2014it is a lot of time that I noted that if I convert a RAW file from my Canon camera in TIFF and then I post elaborate it with GIMP, I obtain a file without EXIF. No problem whan I convert the RAW file in jpeg.

AutoCad 3D :: 3D UCS Icon In 2010 Different To 2014
Nov 19, 2013The AutoCAD video tutorials on the site such as "AutoCAD 2010_ 01 Getting Ready for 3D" show a 3D UCS icon which has some nice arrows at the end of each axis, this looks similar to the icon in Solidworks.
Has there been some change in design to this icon from 2010 to 2014? The UCS 3D icon in the version 2014 that i'm running does not have these arrows and if I can find a setting to have it display in this way, it certainly doesn't show up in any of the visual styles e.g. xray, conceptual or realistic. I've not found any info anywhere documenting the change, if any.

AutoCAD 2010 :: 2014 DWG Files In 2011
Dec 9, 2013Our structural firm is using 2011, and our office has received drawings that came out of 2014 twice in the past week (from separate arch clients). In both instances, we back-converted using DWG TrueView 2014, but upon opening in ACAD, none of the walls were showing up (although they do appear in the preview). One of my other drafters dealt with it the first time, and got it resolved, although I didn't get specifics on how. Naturally, the second time it happened, she was out, so I am seeing if the architect can back-save to 2010 on their end and send the file.
While waiting on that, I tried QSelect in the offending file, and in the list of items that comes up, there was, amid the usual Text, Line, Pline, Block, etc., something called ACAD_PROXY_ENTITY. I selected all (nothing was visible, however--usually you see grips at least when you QSelect things), then exploded, and the walls showed up.
I have had somewhat similar odd behavior from drawings coming from I think ADT (do they still make ADT?), where things like walls, doors and windows come in as something block-like (I think AEC OBJECTS?), and we have to explode them in order to control color and visibility of their constituent parts. Perhaps this is something similar?
At any rate, this seems like something that either shouldn't be happening, or that has a more obvious fix than having to qselect and explode invisible things to get them to show up.

May 15, 2013I used to be able to open a drawing then close it right away, if it was not the drawing I was looking for, as long as I didn't pan, zoom, or do anything else. Almost a year ago I had a pop-up with-in AutoCAD that they reccommend I make this selection. I can't remember what it said really, it was something about a script or lisp loading at each drawing opening. Well, the result is the 'Drawing 1' does not disappear when I open another drawing and I would like that to stop. Also as I said it does it to every drawing. how to stop this? I tried the 'startup' command and that is not it. It is not a big thing just something I think is a waste of my time having to close that drawing each time I open AutoCAD. Not sure it matters but I am using AutoCAD 2012

- Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit
- ACAD2011 with 1.1
- Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS (not a supported graphic card from what I know)
- Intel i5-750
Since we got that out of the way let's get to it.
A week ago I was told that a lot of times the PC's freeze when you try to "Save", "Save as" or "Open" a file (we open/save on a network drive). If that happens we have to restart the PC and hope it doesn't happen again, but since this happens quite a lot (over the course of four days about 27 times on 7 PC's) I tried to fix this.
I installed the patch, updated the drivers for the graphic card and reinstalled NET Framework 4. The problem didn't occur as often but it still happened sometimes.

Dec 3, 2013I have drawings that are saved as ACad 2010 and need to work on them in ACad 2014. I am receiving error messages saying the drawing is damaged and requires recovery. Errors are being detected and some files I can eventually open but edits are missing. Others I am unable to open and I get a message "audit could not correct errors in database".

Dec 3, 2013I have recently converted mtext to multileader text & i thought it was causing some issues but now im not so sure. Some of my users are experiencing a long time to regen & it has caused some peoples computers to freeze up. Is there a setting or a variable that could be causing this? I am not sure if this is an issue with the multileaders or with autocad release 13 or 14 in general. I had the users turn regenauto off until i can find a solution.

Dec 20, 2012I am using autocad 2013 primarily and other employees are using 2010. I am saving my drawings as 2010 and for me there are no issues. On the other hand people using 2010 are having objects missing in the drawing. All layers are turned on and all thawed. The primary objects missing are AEC objects. Is there a switch to show or hide these object?

Jul 27, 2012Why does AutoCAD still have automatic save if it is not going to automatically save your files? I have used AutoCAD for over 20 years and when the introduced automatic saves, I thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. But apparently some time between release 2010 and 2012 it was redone or it just don't work. I can recall closing a drawing w/o saving by mistake after having worked on it for 2-3 hours and only loosing at the most 10 minutes of my time. I just did the same thing and lost about 2 hours worth of time and my automatic save was set to every 10 minutes as I have set it since automatic save was introduced.
