I have a simple scene. Cylinder with Target Photometric light casting toward it. Plane.
the nitrous viewport creates correct soft shadow adjustments as I change the width and height of a rectangular light source. the render does NOT.
I am new to 3ds max. For the scene I am doing know I am using photometric lights and I can't control the density of the shadows (they are way too dark). I can't find any controls that are affecting the shadows or any useful information on the web. I am using mental ray and ray traced shadows.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've enclosed an original picture and my 3d scene. the problems lies in the shadow on both sides of the lamp which is too hard edged. and normally, there is a grid right beneath the cylinder bulb, but when applying that grid in 3ds max the whole scene becomes speckled. must have something to do with the light being blocked by geometry.

I'm using mental ray rendering photometric lights with a lot of reflective surfaces. I keep getting little white specks showing up on certain surfaces.

But when I want to add standard lights, with ray traced shadows, I can place them as usual in the scene but it doesnt illuminate the scene at all, no matter how high multiplier.. Not in the model nor in the renders.
I also ticked enable hardware shading, enable shadows and enable ambient occlusion.
I have been working on this scene for quite awhile now and I am having issues with shadows while rendering, attached is a picture of the problem I am having. I looked through the forum and found this fix

I am doing a trial of Revit 2014. Usually I get the student version, but I enjoy 30 days with no stamp. I want to do some night renders, and so I dropped in studio lights that aren't showing up at all in the "sun and artifical" render.
I go to adjust the lights with the "Artificial Lights" button and nothing. No response at all. It's like a fake button that just looks like it's being clicked.
I have PS CS6 Extended from the Creative Cloud and everything works great. However the draggable shadows in 3D do not show up at all.
If I render my image the shadows appear. but they do not show up as they do in what's new section of the photoshop page in [URL] Also If I turn on reflections, they show up just fine, but the shadows are still not there.

I recently updated to Photoshop CS6.1 (or 13.1) from the Creative Cloud and my shadows stopped working again.The draggable shadows in 3D do not show up at all. If I render my image the shadows appear.

I am working with vectors from AI as smartobjects in PS. In CS6 the dropshadow effect started to look weird.It's to dark, offset and to big. If I scale the smartobject in PS the dropshadow changes, too. But it's never as it's supposed to be.Here is a screenshot. Left is AI, middle PS CS5, right CS6. URL....
Is there a setting I have change to make PS CS6 handle smartobjects with effects nicely again?!
3ds Max seems to only alow .ies, .cibse and .ltli files as photometric file types - missing out on a huge swath of files - Eulumdat (.ldt) files, a standard used in Europe.
I understand that Autodesk is an American company and .ies is the most common format there, but a good chunk of my work here in the UK uses Eurpoean fixtures and there is a large number of .ldt files floating around.
I have got a conversion programme, I personally use OxyTech's Lightstar 4d, but really it's very irritating to have to manually convert dozens of different .ldt files so I can use them in 3ds Max.
Is there a plug-in/script/something so I can import .ldt easier?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI tried to create a rendering utilizing the IES file from a light fixture manufacturer and I can't seem to get the photometric web to distribute along the full length of the bulb. It looks like the light is being distributed from a point in the middle of the light fixture although it is a 4' T8 fluorescent bulb. In the light family Light Source Definition, I set the Emit from shape to be a line and set the Light Distribution to be Photometric Web and set the Emit From Line Length parameter to be 4'. The distribution of the light looks correct, but just only from a point.

Closing and reopening AutoCAD doesn't work. It seems to be a permanent thing to the affected drawing.
It's happened to me in a few drawings, but only in those specific ones. Other drawings are fine. I'm guessing it's a setting I've changed somehow?
I've been getting round it by creating shapes using the polyline, and then looking at the area in the properties window. It's an ok solution, but not ideal.
If I am working in Autocad classic workspace and i will switch my workspace in 3d modelling, all the command (interface) that i brought inside the workspace will lost. How to prevent that?is there an option for this??

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have both PSE 10 and LR 5.2, but am not that comfortable with LR yet. I took a new photo and brought it into LR for a few edits, then did "Edit In" to finish the edits in PSE. The file was a Tiff at that point. I went to use the "Touch Up Scratches and Blemishes" tool, and it wouldn't allow me to use it until I got the prompt to convert from 16 bit color to 8 bit, which I did. Then did a bunch of other edits in PSE, and did a "Save As" to a JPG file. On the "Save As" dialog, the only option I had for "Color" was a checkbox that said "ICC Profile: ProPhoto RGB". Left that checked.
After saving the file, I looked at the file properties on the "Details" tab. It shows the "Color representation" as "Uncalibrated" and the "Photometric interpretation" as "RGB". Normally when I don't do the LR edits first, the "Color representation" is "sRGB" and the "Photometric interpretation" is blank.
So the questions: Is what I did OK? The final jpg file appears OK when I took at it in Windows, but wonder if I am going to have a problem somewhere else. Did I lose detail in converting from 16 bit to 8 bit to do the edits in PSE? Should I have done something different along the way, assuming I wanted to do my final edits in PSE?
I have a bunch of material libraries that need to be re-pathed as I have moved my textures, the Bitmap/Photometric paths editor has a tickbox that says "include material library" which leads me to believe that it will list, for re-pathing, all materials in my library.
However, it doesn't seem to do anything for me even though the library i need to re-path is loaded into my Material/map browser.
I have this very large scene that has 109 lights. I'm tweeking a portion of the scene and it would be real handy to be able to turn all the lights (except a few) off to speed rendering times. I don't know of a way to do this and doubt its possible without a script or something.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've recently migrated from AutoCAD 2008 (non-industry specific) to AutoCAD 2010 so I don't know if this was an issue in 2009.
Back in 2008, when I choose the 'window' option when specifying a plot area, AutoCAD would show the workspace so that I could manually select a windowed plot area, and at the same time the whole workspace would be greyed out except the previously active window area.
This was handy, because we can have as many two dozen title-blocks (and therefore separate viewports) in paperspace, and knowing what plot area I last plotted or added as a saved page setup.
In 2010, it no longer does that. I now have to rely on the dashed border to know where the active plot area is/was (checked 'display printable area' in options>display tab) which I personally don't really like using.
How to changes the settings for the "Square Area" in mapcheck's closure summary. When I right-click the dwg name in the Settings tab of Toolspace and choose Edit Drawing Settings, then Ambient Settings, I see the Area settings, but in the closure summary, there is also "Square Area". Why are these both there? It WOULD be nice to show sq. ft. as well as acres, but I can't find anywhere to edit it.

Is there an easy ACAD way for drawing this line without using trigonometry for calculation?
My problem is that in some of my family pictures, there are lights on in the background or bright windows behind the subject. Is there any way to reduce the brightness of ONLY these extremely bright areas without making the rest of the photo too dark?

I was trying something and accidentally deleted the five lights down option.. But.. I need it back!
