Xara :: Object Alignment Dialog - Pass Keystrokes To Host?
Aug 10, 2011When I've mis-aligned a group of objects my instinct is to hit Ctrl+Z and try again but the Object Alignment dialog doesn't appear to be passing keyboard commands back to Xara so I have to first click somewhere in the main window, undo and then re-select the Object Alignment dialog.
Not a huge deal but I've just started playing with Xara and thought I'd document quirks as I discover them, as part of my learning curve.
Photoshop :: Convert Series Of Adjustment Layers Into Single Action?
Nov 16, 2012I have a Photoshop CS6 document with 20-some adjustment layers and would like to be able to apply their effect to multiple image files. I'm looking for a way to convert the series of adjustment layers into a single action so that I can batch process a set of images. Can this be done?
Unless I'm missing something, it appears that no trivial solution exisits. For example, there's no option that allows for selecting the adjustment layers, right clicking them, and choosing 'convert to action.' What I want to avoid is having to redo each adjustment layer just for the sake of recording an action.
Also, I understand that I can always "place" (i.e. drag and drop) the image requiring processing into the Photoshop document containing the adjustment layers, saving a merged copy as jpeg, and repeat... but such a manual method would border on insulting to this prowess of a program.
Any method of recording an action that can make use of the document with the adjustment layers and a variable document that will be passed through during the batch process.
Xara :: Setting Zero White Space Between Series Of Graphics
May 30, 2013I quite often want to have a series of graphics lined up horizontally or vertically with no space between them, so I can use them as one image. Evenly distributing white space doesn't work because depending on the positions of the two end images they either overlap or there is white space between them.
The Serif DrawPlus alignment options has an option for evenly distributing (like Xara), but also has the option of specifying the number of pixels of white space ('spacing), with negative, zero and positive values.

Nov 10, 2011I assume there's some button combination I'm missing? All I know is I can connect a series of freehand lines no problem, but the straight line tool is not consistent operation with the freehand tool.

Jun 9, 2011How to create custom shortcut arrow for icons the default shortcut arrows in windows vista are huge you can use the program Ultimate Windows Tweaker UWT v2.2 (to clear off the shortcut arrow completely) or Vista Shortcut Manager to give a beautiful blue arrow
I am going to show you how to do it with xara
1. make a 256 x 256 pixels (px) square (very thin line 0.5 px , no fill)
2. draw an arrow inside in the left down corner
3. give it a drop shadow if needed
4. export as png
5. use program Iconfx
[URL]....
or
[URL]....
6. open the png in iconfx (drag and drop)
7. a "new image dialog box will open" click ok
8. advanced import dialog box: click ok
9. untitled with the png image in 48 x 48
10. now click the windows icon in the toolbar, that will make the icon
11. save the icon in a folder - give the name empty.ico
12. go to C:WindowsSystem32
paste and replace the the empty.ico which is in that folder (if you want backup the original one rename it to emptyoriginal.ico then restart explorer
this empty.ico is an overlay above any shortcuts for applications, files etc.
Now you will be able to see the custom made shortcut arrow over any shortcuts

Alternatively, is there a Script or another solution?Lastly, does a later version of Xara Designer overcome this problem?

Aug 3, 2013I want to draw a pattern for a crochet hat. The first thing I need to do is draw a ring of 7 chain stitches. I downloaded a font that makes crochet stitches, the one I would be using for the chain is an oval. I typed in the 7 stitches and adjusted the spacing so that they touched and tried putting the text on a circle. But I couldn't get a contiguous chain. I tried a brush, but that would not fit round the circle.

Now I would like to make the curve path in visible, and I was able to search for instructions on how to do that except that I'm finding them mystifying. I read "you can select a single item inside a group with Ctrl click," but when I go to the group in the layers gallery, the text and curve are treated as one item, and I see no way to separate the two.

Nov 15, 2013is there any way of making one object appear in multiple places?
The problem is that we are designing some objects (call them "buttons") whose design we have not finalized how they will look yet.
i.e. The shape, size, layout of components of these buttons is still undecided, although we know that they will be in use in a large number of places (on a large number of pages).
So what I want is to have a single master copy of the object that I can edit in one place, and for those changes to ripple out across multiple places on multiple pages.
P.S. I thought Edit ==> Clone Shape would do this, but it appears to create separate, un-linked copies. In fact all it seems to do is in effect the same as Control/C and then Control/Shift/V!

Nov 22, 2013Since installing Creative Cloud a few weeks ago, I have had a persistent issue. I use a keystoke on a selected object (such as an arrow nudge) and the object will not move. Then I look at a field in a Panel or the Control bar and the arrow has started affecting the field value instead of the selected object. It's important to note that I have clearly selected the object. Anything entered in a field has been confirmed with the Enter key. Today, I highlighted a numeral "1" in a line of type on my page, typed a "2" and the number got entered in the Paragraph Panel! This kind of thing keeps happening over and over. Quitting and restarting Illustrator works for a while.

I'm catching on pretty quick, but Im wondering, is there a way to use keystrokes or shortcuts to toggle between the menu items at the top of the screen. The assistants in the class said that on a Mac you can access these menu items with the mouse, but in a PC you use the Alt + a letter and can get to the sub-items with either letters or the arrow keys.

Jun 27, 2008I previously used PS CS on XP Pro and all was fine. I then upgraded to Vista. Since I reverted back to XP Pro I keep getting error messages.
When I use the 'Open as' command, I get:
"Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document" (yet it's a JPG) - works ok if I just usen File >Open.
When I try and shut/close down the file/program, I get:
"Could not complete the Close command becuase there is not enough memory (RAM)"
Strangley enought these messages then just disappear. Really stuggling to use this software due to the annoying pop up messages.
