Xara :: Blend Not Working?
Feb 28, 2013Using Xtreme 5. While using the Blend Tool I hit Remove. Now Blend is not working. It does not show the Steps option. How do I bring it back?

May 2, 2013When using the blend tool to blend colour between two objects is there a way to see the anchor points so I know where to click the blend tool. I realise the cursor changes when over one but its seems very cumbersome to have to move it around until it changes rather than click directly on one which I could do if I could see it.

Dec 4, 2013I'm using Illustrator CC (on a Win7 Pro machine) at a beginner level, probably halfway to intermediate. I'm trying to learn how to blend colors together for highlights of various types (skin tones, clothing, light on objects, etc.) so that when I'm making a graphic for a project I'll have a decent idea of which tool/technique is best for the specific effect I need.
I'm trying to use the Smooth Color option in the blend tool. Late yesterday afternoon I recall creating two ellipses (one of which was a solid fill and one of which was a gradient going from black to transparent) and getting a smooth color transition between the two. It was a much harsher effect than I was looking for so I didn't keep it. This morning, while trying to replicate the same thing, I seem to be unable to use smooth color between two objects if one or more of them has a gradient applied. I only get what you see below, which is a step between the two objects.
I've done searches and found multiple references to blending gradients in this way and have followed those instructions (create the shapes, fill with the gradients, then either click on the Blend tool and click on the center of each shape, or click on Object -> Blend -> Make) but I can't seem to get a Smooth Color blend if either object has a gradient applied. Am I missing an important step somewhere? I'm 95% sure I accomplished it yesterday and nothing has been changed since then.

Jun 26, 2013I am trying to blend two different art brushes with different colors using the blend tool. I'm trying to use two fixed-size line segments of the same length and then applying the two different brushes to those segments ( each art brush is a different color). Then I want to blend them the regular way so their colors transition. However, when I do this, the first shape is a different color, but all subsequent blend steps are the color of the second blended shape. Why is this? It doesn't blend the colors for some reason.

Oct 2, 2008I have "group1" and inside that group, only one layer: "layer1". The blending mode for "group1" is vivid light and for "layer1" it's "normal".
Now, if I change "group1" to "pass through" and "layer1" to "vivid light" ... the result is completely different, while it should be the same, shouldn't it?
Xara :: XDP 7 7.1.0DL Fly-outs Not Working?
Jul 22, 2011Not sure whats happened here but the fly-outs in the Tools bar in XDP 7 have suddenly stopped repsonding (i.e. not 'flying out'). The others toolbars work fine, just the Tools bar.

Jun 2, 2013I have a problem, Save As is not working. I usually do my work in Xara, Save, then Save As to whatever format I need.Just recently (last night), I did a Circle (from a template I have), put some text in it. Saved to .Xar format like always.
Then I tried to do a Save As -there was no Choices in the Files drop down -well, actually just two choices:
Xara Design Pro X (*.xar)
All Files (*.*)

i have win 7 french with everything in french, yet xara only offers me english (uk) and english (us) as spellchecker language options

Xara :: Save Template From Working Document
Mar 22, 2011I have a working document, part of which should become a template for similar docs.
However the part that should become a template is not all that is in the document.
I guess I can turn off the eyeball of all layers or objects not meant to be part of the template but then the template will have all the extra junk in it (turned off).
Is there a better way than saving a copy of the doc, opening it and deleting all that is not meant to be template, then resave as template?
Xara :: Working With Photo Masks In Designer Pro X9?
Jan 23, 2014I had no problem working with and feathering masks in Designer Pro 9. However the upgrade to Pro X9 has made "improvements" that I cannot figure out.
I have a photo in which I want to blur and darken the background while leaving the subject person clear and bright.
I used the mask painter tool to mask out the person, so far so good. I used the picture editing tools to blur and de-bright the unmasked portion. So far, so good.
The result had (of course) too hard an edge between the masked and unmasked portions of the image.
How can I soften (feather) the edge of the mask? OR how else should I be trying to accomplish this task?
To repeat, I could do this just fine in Pro 9, but in Pro X9 I just can't seem to find out how to do it.
Xara :: Thumbnail Preview In Folders Not Working In Vista 64 Bit?
Sep 25, 2008The thumbnail view is not working for .xar files in Vista Home Premium. I got a new system that totally rocks and Vista is now my default OS, XP is put to bed. It's a 64 bit system, not sure if that makes any difference. I don't think it would.
Oh and it's a quad core system, 9 series nVidia graphics card with 8 gigs of DDR2 RAM and with a 64 bit system I see all 8 gigs. WOOT! Renders that used to take 10 hours are done in under 2. NICE!
Anyway. I really would love to know if this is a known bug in X Pro or if there is a fix or something I need to do to enable a thumbnail preview in the folders?
Xara :: Latest Version Set Line Width Not Working In Flyout Menu
Oct 28, 2011I recently downloaded and installed the latest version update. Everything seems to be working fine. However, one thing is not. The Set line width box in the flyout menu does not allow typing in a custom number. I thought it might have been a problem with my Cintiq but it is the same on my main monitor.
The Set line width box in the main toolbar works fine. But the one in the flyout doesn't work. I can select a setting from the dropdown list but just can't type in something like 1.5. It doesn't matter if I use my number pad--with the numlock on--or the keyboard numbers. Another strange thing I just noticed, when trying to type in a number in the flyout box, I cannot type 1 or 2 or a period but I can type in 0,3-9 although none of these changes the width of the line.
This worked okay in the previous version so perhaps it is a bug in the new release? (7.1.2.18680)
Xara :: Photoshop Filters Not Working And Removing Demo Filters
Jan 31, 2011I have hardly ever used filters for any of my work as I have preferred using Xara's native tools and effects to get what I wanted. But recently, I was inspired by some animation work which used backgrounds painted in Photoshop. They used a lot of textures which enhanced the look of the animation and so I thought I'd try to simulate it within Xara.
It works very well and I can export it as a PSD retaining the layers and Alpha channel. But here come my questions.
1. How can I remove the two Alien Skin demo plugins as I already have the full versions.
2. Why don't the native Photoshop plugins--Artistic, Sketch, etc.--seem to work?

I understand the purpose of these sliders already.
But, I alway used them with "Blend If:" set to Grey.
I was doing P.40 in Photoshop Most Wanted 2, it instructed to use "Blend If: Red.
I don't see absolutely any difference in the effect buy using red instead of gray.

Oct 12, 2013After taking two images of a landscape, one exposed for the foreground and another exposed for the sky. How do I open them each in a seperate layer so I can blend the two together. Giving me a correctly exposed image of foreground and sky.
I don't want to do HDR just blend two images. I use CS4. I should mention I use Aperture to manage my images and edit with CS4 by migrating the image from within Aperture.

Aug 30, 2007I have a bracketed series of a landscape shot from Rocky Mountain Park that varies by about 3-4 stops. In the lightest the shaded areas of the foreground are great but everything else, especially the sky and distant mountains, are blown out. In the darkest, the highlights are just right but the shadowed areas are far too dark.
The scans are from 6x7 Velvia chromes.
I have made a pretty good print by combining parts of three of the scans by cutting, pasting, and blending them. But there is a halo in one very difficult area and that's a very tedious project.
I have tried the HDR but Photoshop says the chromes don't have enough exposure range for HDR.
