I have a working document, part of which should become a template for similar docs.
However the part that should become a template is not all that is in the document.
I guess I can turn off the eyeball of all layers or objects not meant to be part of the template but then the template will have all the extra junk in it (turned off).
Is there a better way than saving a copy of the doc, opening it and deleting all that is not meant to be template, then resave as template?
Whenever I try to open a new blank file in it, it gives me an error message saying I don't have a "default template", and I needed to choose a file and save it as a "default template". So I did, but now, I'm stuck with that template - I can't choose a letter-sized blank page to work on because that choice is no longer on the list under "New". What the heck is going on? I just want a blank page to draw on, and now it's not available.
I purchased Designer Pro 9 about a month ago. I have tried about 30 times, no kidding, to change the US Letter template from Arial 10 to Verdana 12. It happened again this morning and I've decided to finally come to the forum and find out what's going on.
Here's what happens: I open US Letter and make the changes, then choose Save Template. When I reopen it, it's still Arial 10. Makes no difference if I choose "Use as default template" or not. I even tried saving it as a template with a different name, Verdana 12, but it still opens as Arial 10.
As a test, I opened Designer 6, chose New, US Letter, and changed the font to Brussels 12. I then selected Save Template, saved it as Brussels 12, and closed out. Then I chose File/New/Brussels 12. It opened as a letter template with Brussels 12 point. That's the procedure I used years ago to change US Letter to Verdana 12 in Designer 6, and so the Save Template function still works in that version.
Because nothing I've tried seems to work, I am wondering whether any template I create will be saved in 9.
I have a problem, Save As is not working. I usually do my work in Xara, Save, then Save As to whatever format I need.Just recently (last night), I did a Circle (from a template I have), put some text in it. Saved to .Xar format like always.
Then I tried to do a Save As -there was no Choices in the Files drop down -well, actually just two choices:
I inadvertently saved a document as a jpg and wondered if there is any way I can convert it to a document file that is handled more easily with a file that is other than a photo file?
I'm building a product catalog which contains a few hundred products + descriptions. In the case that I want to make a design change to the layout of a product/description combo, is there a way that I can make that change to all product/description elements. Can I template a specific set of shapes/ fonts so that 1 change effects all of them in the document.
I am trying to add sheet numbers to my template for my document. I know I have to use the Sheet Properties, Sheet Number then Drawing Properties, Number of Sheets but I cannot remember how to do this? I am using IV 2010. There used to be a Properties Field icon, but now I cannot find it? I RMB on the title block, select "Edit", then selected the location of the property, then selected Sheet Properties, Sheet Number, but nothing shows up.
I created a template and placed it in the Graphic Styles folder. When I use the New command and select the new template from Graphic Styles, the Guide layer disappears. When I double click the template to open it the guides are there. Why is the guide layer getting stripped out when I use the New command? I want to avoid opening from template everytime.
The weird thing is that I had a template that was opening with guides until I made some changes to it. Now it doesn't work either.
have a Xara template for a VHS video cover? My autistic son won't play DVDs, so I have to maintain his VHS collection, and some of the covers need redoing.
I have to create a PostCard template that is the following dimensions: URL....It confuses me what does "Spread" section means and Outer Margin. If somebody is willing to create .xar.
I am using P&GD2013..If I use a template from the designs gallery it will automatically replace photographs and create new pages to match the number of photographs I import. If I make my own template I can't make it do that.I have tried modifying a supplied template but that seems not to work either. All I want to do is to create a template of an A5 landscape page with one centred 7 x 5 photograph and then import forty photographs. Do I really have to drag each one from the bitmap gallery ?
Is it possible to import my existing webpages I have saved on my PC. I want to re-design them and make a few changes etc. I only seem to be able to import the images from a page. Am I being dim or is this simply done? I am using Designer Pro 6
I am trying to work out the best way to import a word document into Designer Pro 6 and am struggling.I have a 21 page word document which is formatted text only i.e. no graphics included. I have exported this from Word as a RTF file. I now want to import this into DP6 so that I can use the power of DP6 for embedding all the graphics that I want.
Ideally what I would like to be able to do is to set-up a page with a text area, import the RTF document and insert it into the textarea and for DP6 to create the following pages with flowing text areas. I don't seem to be able to do this.
I think I must be missing a trick as in Gary Bouton's excellent book on Xara Xtreme 5 he says in the section on "Pouring Text into the Layout" (Page 198), that "Xara automatically adds pages to a document to handle text that won't fit on a page.".
Quick one here.... how do I keep DP7 from opening up the last doc worked on? And would that include choosing the desired doc/template to open when loaded?
1. I am working with some large files and the startup time is tooooooo long. How do I get DPro9 to open with only a blank document?
2. What is the logic here anyway. Even if I close some documents while I am working, they still at times open upon next launch. Have yet to crack this enigma?
I should be able to import a .cdr file but when I try the message I get is "There was some error while importing XPS document. Possible wrong format". Listed under "Other Imported Formats" is .CDR CorelDRAW (3,4 & 5). The file I have is from version 5. How to be able to import Corel files?
If you have a multipage document such as the plans for a house you can have a different scale factor on each page if you turn off "All pages in document the same" in the Options dialog's "Page Size" tab.
Then you can set different scales on different pages. E.g. 1:100 for house floor plans and 1:500 for site layout plans.
How the animation size can be controlled in a new document in Designer Pro?
Basically I have created a custom size animation as 750 x 245 pixels, this has been exported to .swf flash file. So in the document where I would like to use it, applied the File/Import.
But somehow like this the imported object comes with 192 x 192 pixels dimension, in what the main issue is that this is a square, with big white are around the real animation which was a long rectangle. How I could import the .swf file without those white dimension?
I make pdf ainally and if I just paste texture into all pages = huge size pdf. When I make it in microsoftword all background pictures have weight as one pic.
Has anything changed in the export of a document to a PDF.
I have a problem exporting a document that contains a shadow on some text. In the final PDf it shows the shadow as a block. I'm sure i used to be able to convert the text to an editable shape / ungroup them and the problem would be resolved. But it still exports the text with a block behind it.
I found that if I convert the back image under the text to a bitmap it resolves the problem only this causes a color shift in the background, no good when I'm trying to keep constant colors throughout the document.
Is there any way to force Xara to open an empty document and no other files? On load, my DP7 attempts to open a prior document that involves a complex Photoshop filter render. DP7 is hanging up here, the status bar reading, "Please wait: rendering Live Effects..." I could always reinstall if it comes to that, but if there's an easier workaround,
Original file was generated in Adobe InDesign CS6 as (16) 8.5" x 11" - exported this to high res print ready PDF. I need to manually paginate this 16 page document to 11" x 17" printer spreads so I can set up addressing with XMPie.Placed PDFs into InDesign CC (vsn 9.2) on (8) 11" x 17" sheets - saved as a new file name but it won't save - it looks like it's processing for a minute, then just stops and doesn't save.
Made an 8 page 11" x 17" template without placing the PDF and saved it - and it saved successfully. Once I place the PDFs - and try to save or save as - it does the same thing, processes for a moment before stopping and not successfully saving (the * is still next to the name at the top of the document bar, and if I close it asks me if I want to save changes.)I'm on a Mac, OS/X 10.8.5, I've restarted the machine, and tried again and ended up with the same issue.
I am facing problem while using Save / Save As / Save for web options in my Photoshop. On clicking Save / Save As commands, my photoshop gets closed abruptly and I am losing all data. If I choose Save for Web option, the file Save dialog box appears and when I click on the 'Save' button, the application gets closed abruptly.
It was working fine yesterday. My version is bundled in the Technical Communicator suite 3.5 and I faced some problems with Adobe Acrobat, for which my IT team took support from Adobe and got it resolved just two days ago. (Case ID - 184809966)
Currently I have 30 .xar files that I have to export one by one to PDF, then I have to use a terrible PDF stitcher that cost me $30. Is there a way in either version 6 or 7 that enables you to create a single .xar document but actually have multiple pages within it?
I installed, removed and reinstalled Revit 2014 3 times but still no success. When I start Revit 2014 and try to start a new project by clicking on new and selecting any of the available templates like Architectural, Construction, Structural, or Mechanical, Revit gives me a message saying - Failed to open Document'. If I start selecting 'none' then the default project that starts has no elevation marks and no elevation views. Also the system families are not loaded properly as I get just one wall by the name of 'Basic Wall 1' and no other wall types are present. If I put an elevation marker to create an elevation view, there are no levels present and so how to I add further levels?
I have tried various stuffs to get default templates so that Revit works normally but it all failed. Nothing seems to work and I can't start a new project because the 'none' template has nothing in it and I don't want to create a new wall type every time.
Just updated to CC and now when I try to save over old templates it gives me an error message saying it cannot save because this template may be in use in another program...but the only program its in use in is illustrator at that moment because im making changes to it.
For some reason my Subassembly Name Template is not being applied to my subassemblies. This happens in new drawings using the default Imperial Template that ships with the product.
I am showing the settings in a screen capture and the results when I apply them in a screen recording.

I use VS Pro X4 Ultimate with SP1 on a new installed Windows 7 Pro 64bit system. I try to create a BD menu with submenu, but I can't save my changes in the submenu. I understand from a other topic, that I must use a template and save these changes under my Favourites Gallery. I do the steps like in the topic below, but I never get button “Add to menu template” to save it. Where is this button?
"By Customize you are changing the template, after which the “Add to menu template” will become available, now you can save the template, which will show in the Favourites gallery.
1 / First page, choose a template
2 / The screen shows the Main Menu (the Title Menu) as “Currently Displayed Menu”
3 / Double click the text on screen to change to your own.
4 / If you have created “Chapters” choose the drop-down box Main Menu and change to Untitled
5 / You are now viewing the Chapter Menu
6 / again double click the text to modify / change
7 / Selecting the Edit Tab will allow you to add background music and video/images.
Then customise the font types, size and colour etc.You can customise the Motion Menu and also select other Buttons.Again once "customised" you can save the template to the Favourites Gallery"
