VideoStudio :: Burned DVD Resolution Appears Low

Mar 10, 2013

I've just burned a DVD slideshow using some 7mp Photos. The mpg file looks fine at 720X480 but when I burn this to disk the resolution appears really low, maybe around half the original. The video file is only 350M so it's not a compression issue.

VideoStudio :: Audio Lag On Burned DVDs

I have been using corel video studio pro x4 for about 6 months for uploading videos to youtube. Works just fine. I have now edited and composed a 50 minute video that I have tried to burn onto dvd+r and when the finished product is played it starts out just fine and in time. Minute by minute though the audio starts to lag away from the video being displayed to where at the end of my 50 minute dvd it is off by more than 5 seconds.

VideoStudio :: UFF Or Frame Based For HD Footage Burned To DVD

Sep 21, 2013

When you are burning HD footage (video type H.264, Upper Field First) to a DVD, do I keep the project input and output on UPPER FIELD FIRST? Or am I supposed to change both to FRAME BASED?

This is what I know:

SD is Lower Field First
HD is Upper Field First
"Still Photos" is Frame based

I had a videographer tell me today that to burn HD to a DVD i'm supposed to use FRAME BASED. And HD to a BLUE RAY disc is UPPER FIELD FIRST. I thought Frame Based was only for Slideshows.

I'm currently using Corel VideoStudio Pro X4 Ultimate
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: 8000 kbps
Audio data rate: 128 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

VideoStudio :: Burned Movie Displays Text Over Everything

When my daughter presented for the class on her teacher's computer there was text covering the video that seemingly had nothing to do with the video. I can't reproduce it and I don't even know what kind of system the teacher uses, but is there some trick to burning a disk so that it displays the same on anything and everything?

I tried both 16:9 and 4:3 in VS x4 and both had the same results 4 black borders.

when i burned the same movie in VS 10 plus with 4:3 the movie fits the size of my tv screen.

why is it that VS pro X4 ultimate cant burn the movie to fit the size of my tv screen as it did in VS 10 Plus? what setting am I missing in setting in VS X4

VideoStudio :: Sound Distortion On Burned Disk Playback

May 2, 2011

Completed my film, created video file and burned it successfully. For this film I used copyright free music. Unfortunately, when playing back the burned disk, the sound "skids" and sounds somewhat distorted in places. Less so but still distorted is some of the spoken word in the film (ie the person on the film not voiceover). (Everything is fine when playing back the project in VS.) It's not so bad you can't play or hear it but obviously not satisfactory to my own pride! - letalone the viewer.

I do not use the "normalise audio" function and wonder if this would make a difference? I had presumed until now that the normalise audio function would merely make all audio the same level - on whatever work I had done to make the sound/voice overs different, e.g. lowering sound at the point of voice-over etc. I should say I have used a lot of visual effects in the film - 6 overlay tracks - and wonder if I have exceeded the bounds of sensibility!

VideoStudio :: Pro X4 - Setting Video Resolution

Feb 26, 2012

I'm having problems trying to set the video resolution on both of my copies of VS Pro X4. The captures I'm using are 16x9, and when I select a thumbnail and play it, the clip first displays as 4x3 in the preview window, then when it starts playing, it goes to 16x9, but when I put the clip in the video track, it displays and plays in 4x3... even after I change the Project Properties to 16x9, it still does the same thing.

I have recently taken some of the same files and created a 16x9 optimized MPEG in the share menu, but for some reason, I'm unable to do it again. I have had problems with my capture device, and haven't used VS Pro X4 for a while, but now I have a new methodology, and am back to working with video, again. Some of the things I did before, are now forgotten... I'm sure the answer is somewhere on this site, but so far, all of my searches and reading have only offered the things I have already done, and so far as I can tell, that doesn't work. At this point, I can't remember if the editing I did before, was displayed in 4x3 or 16x9, but the DVDs I have burned are definitely in 16x9, but the last one was definitely 4x3.

VideoStudio :: Optimum Resolution For Images

Jan 27, 2013

This may seem a strange question, but I do not work with images very often and having just returned from holiday in NZ (how privileged you are to live there Ken) I have some 30GB of video and almost 1000 images to edit.

These images are 16:9 4000x2248, 180 dpi and 24 bit depth, so is there an optimum resolution that these should be reduced to, for creating projects in conjunction with the video (1280x720 HD 59fps) I read some time ago that images need to be reduced in size, but I can't remember why.

VideoStudio :: Rendering Different Formats To Odd Resolution?

Oct 19, 2012

I have a video that in its native format is 1920 x 1080. I need to add our logo to the corner and I have easily done this. Now I need to render it out into several different formats. Rendering it as an MP4 isn't a problem. However, I can't seem to get anything to work in the WMV category. Each time I try to change the size attribute of ANY of the 'profiles' I receive an Access Denied error from Windows Media inside VisualStudio. After I click OK, it tells me to restart the codec and try again. I can pick any of the profiles and receive the same error.

After that issue is corrected, I have another one that is similar. At the 1920 x 1080 resolution, the black bars occupy quite a bit of the viewing window. I can easily 'crop' them off but then I am faced with the same issue as above. How to I set ANY of the formats (MP4, WMV, etc) to 1772 x 472 as the finished size. None of the file types allow you to change the size. Am I missing a simple step here? I have a feeling I am.

VideoStudio :: DVD Resolution Worse Than Analog

Nov 1, 2010

I use VS Pro 2X and I still use an old Sony handycamDCR-TR310 8mm NTSC digital camcorder for all my stuff. I'm not buying anything new in the near future.

Here is my problem:

When I burn to DVD after capturing video the quality of the video on a 1080p television is bad. MY Blue-Ray player upsizes DVD resolution but it looks like a low resolution WMV file.

I understand that this is not an HD video being played on an HD TV so the quality will not be steller. The reason for posting this question is that I have played a DVD, from the same setup, I made a year ago with a DVD I just made and the older DVD is much better resolution. This only affects video not titles or images or anything else.

Here is what I have changed since last year:

- I use the proxy feature in VS for editing video

- I burn DVD to 16:9 now instead of 4:3 but I have changed back and no fix at all

Assuming the camera is still good and the quality of the DVD burner and media are the same could there be something in VS Pro X2 that is changing my resoultion or quality from capturing, editing to burning? Maybe I changed something and did not know it. Where should I look?

VideoStudio :: Setting Resolution For Screen Captures

Feb 20, 2013

I am not yet an owner for VideoStudio. This program is on my short list of software I wish to use for screen capture (creating a series of tutorials for an online classroom) and I have to be able to produce these items in a minimum of 720P 16x9 format (Ideally would like to grab at 1080P but 720 is my absolute minimum requirement). Can VideoStudio do this for me? Do I need a specific capture/video card to be able to acquire at a 720P resolution?

I have a background in broadcast television in my day job, (I edit on Quantel and Apple FCP) and what I like about this software is that it's an "all in one" solution.

PS. running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit, 8GB RAM, NVidia GeForce9600GT card

VideoStudio :: Resolution Of Pictures / Titles Reduced

Jul 23, 2012

Just finished up a little slide show type project for the mother-in-law's 75th birthday. When I rendered the project to an AVCHD or MPEG-4 HD file, playback quality is excellent. So I needed to make a DVD version of the project as the old girl doesn't do 'puters. But when I burned the project to DVD the resolution of the pictures/titles was reduced substantially.

I used the following settings for the project and burning:

Project Props:

NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

DVD Props:

DVD Video 16:9

MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

The resulting burn would only load on one of three (different brand) DVD players. Picture quality poor. Visible jags on edges of titles. Flicker on background Lens Flare effect.

Then I tried changing the DVD settings to:

*DVD Slideshow 16:9

MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
*Frame-based
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

This resulted in a quick load and play on all three DVD players. Flicker on Lens Flare effect gone.
Picture quality still poor. Jags still visible on titles.

This is my first crack at burning to DVD and I'm just wondering what I'm missing here. I would assume that the DVD quality should be equal to AVCHD or MPEG-4.

VideoStudio :: Video Full Resolution Without Horizontal Lines

Nov 2, 2011

I have canon legria HFR 106 [URL]......

Problem is setting of the best resolution:

-FULL HD is making these horizontal lines (every other pixel line) if something moves in the picture so its not good
- lower camera setting makes the resolution to 1440x1080 which is 4:3 !! that's not the ratio of today (and youtube) and i didn't even realize it because video studio has 16:9 project settings and the ratio of outputted video seems right?
- Compared these: video 4:3, project 16:9, still images from another camera 4:3 -> fail

what do you recommend, is there a way to get full resolution better without those lines or other way to 16:9 ?

2. Also only recent and fast opening player to play those camera raw videos (.mts) is VLC-player. Is there a way to get it open those videos in zoom mode of 50% or 33% and not 100% they goes over my screen every time!

VideoStudio :: Custom Resolution Profile And Aspect Ratio

Oct 25, 2013

I have used X4 for about two years and X6 for the past couple of months. I cannot figure out how the create more rendering options under Share -> Create Video File. For example, if I want to use the MPEG codec but a custom resolution. Often custom is greyed out and not selectable. In free software such as ffmpeg or Virtual Dub I can create video as any resolution, aspect ratio, or codec. VS options seem to be very limited to these prepackaged choices. For example, some people have described moving a .DLL to the Coral folder to get custom codecs under the Create Video -> custom option. I'd rather not have to always render in VS and then recodec in another software.

My biggest challenge is the new Instagram format. It is basically 640x640 webm format. But I can import MPEG h264 without issue. My goal is to setup a 1:1 640x640 profile so I don't always have to game and stretch titles to display properly in the final version.
