Softimage :: Animating With Constraints

At the moment I animate the weight from 0 to 1 and vice versa over a frame, but when I reopen the damn scene its all wacky. What the heck is going on here?
I tried to install ET PickUp but its giving me an error to do so.

I am animating a character for a game. The biped has a sword in his left hand. I constrained a locator to the wrist control, then constrained the sword to the locator, and on the sword's control added an attribute called "Connect". Obviously, 0 kills the weight of the connection, 1 keeps it as is. So, when the character needs to let go of the sword I set the Connect attribute to 0. Works perfect.
except, that when I set the Connect attribute to 0 (subsequently killing the constraint weight) the sword controller snaps back to bind pose. I'd love to maintain the offset, so if I kill the locator weight the sword will no longer follow the wrist control but at least stay where it is instead of snapping back to T-Pose/Bind.

complex assembly in Inventor 2013 with a number of drive constraints set up, which I can drive in the assembly but not in inventor studio... there don't appear to be any conflicting constraints in the assembly

I am working on a simple animation. A camera pans and turns from isometric view to a left side view of a mechanical device, which runs all ok and at a fairly reasonable speed. Now the next thing I animated, was an angle constraint. The animation moves a lever which in turn moves some gears, and then each frame takes about half a second to elapse (an very long interval when talking about video). The strange thing is that out of Inventor studio I can supress the angle constraint and move the lever (and thus the gears too) very fluidly.

I need to drive more than one constraint at a time. The assembly consist of a hydraulic ram that pulls a cable which is routed around a few pullys and then pulls another linear moving member. I don't really care about modeling the cable right now, I just want the cylinder piston and the final member to move in unison. I can only drive one constraint at a time, so I figured I could relate the two constraints together by setting them equal to a parameter (variable), but that isn't working. Is it me or is driving multiple constraints at a time something that would be very useful for a lot of applications?

I'm modeling cables running through a series of cable clamps. I'm working in an assembly with my structure as one part, clamps as seperate parts, and cables as separate parts. I modeled the clamps first and am using them to create my 3d spline to run the sweep. The clamps have moved several times and each time, the sweeps (cables) do not update to follow the new clamping path. I have tried multiple ways of solving this.
I've tried to redo the splines using "Include Geometry" and running the spline through the centers of the clamps. I've also deleted the constraints (which for some reason turn into fixed) and reapplied them as coincident constraints. However, once I setup these coincidences, they always change back to fixed.
In a last ditch method, I've created 2d sketches at EVERY clamping location (yes that's alot of sketches, time and effort) and projected the circular geometry to get a center point. This has seemed to work, but is so much work, there's no way we could use it regularly.

I am unable to do anything with the Crowd FX part of ICE. I click on Actor, Crowd and Simulation and i don't get any thing.
When i click on any of the tabs i.e. Actor, i get this little box with two dashes in it and when i click on that i get an empty window. I was able to use everything in Crowd FX two days ago but for some reason i can't now. URL...

I have a problem where softimage 2011 crashes right after I double click the icon. I have tried reinstalling it and that has not fixed it. It only flashes a windows console for about .5 seconds and then does nothing afterwards.

Can I use ice to manipulate the visibility of an object? example; a particle enters an object and causes it to become visible but once the particle leaves the object the object disappears. Ive tried using test methods like test inside geometry, but I cant find the attribute to flag the view visibility as true or false. Been beating myself up for a couple days now I have drug the misc. visibility attributes from the explorer into ice but I cant flag them on or off.

Usually i just do stills, but soon i maybe will have to animate the work of a robot like that one:

I can do it just manually by moving the different parts of the robot according to the needs of the animation. But is there a way to automate/ease up animation of such a robot? Because the way that i do it is just quite slow and if i have to animate 30 robots which are doing different things it would take me a century.

I've seen the tutorials about using an Audio Float Controller to move a speaker cone but the sync with the music is "Meh" at best. Pretty much just animates it depending on how loud the music is at that given time and just shakes the cones wildly. Has anyone ran into a script that will follow the audio wave form more closely and would be able to distinguish and filter out just the low frequencies to use for a sub?
I guess I could make the cone vibrate back and forth and then when the bass "kicks" I could manually push the cone out at that given time. Seems like alot of blood, sweat, and tears though.

We've been asked to create an animated map, of sorts. Nothing on the map really would move, but sections would start one color, then highlight and change to a different color. I'm assuming the ideal deliverable would be a HD quality movie file that they could slide the time marker back and forth to see different levels of progress.
Imagine you're trying to show a highway repaving project that will take a number of years to complete. You start with the whole highway where nothing's been repaved. Then, the first year's repaving highlights and then changes color to show that it's been repaved. It remains the new color. Then, the next year's repaving highlights and then changes to the repaved color. This continues until the whole highway is shown as repaved.
I can't imagine Map3D not being able to do this, I just want to search out the best way before we get started. Worst case, we save out a whole bunch of map images and assemble them in some other software. But it seems like Map3D ought to be able to do it.

I have a small problem trying a wave to deform my objects properly. I have to make a "repulsion objects" project, i use several duplicate cubes and i apply to them a wave deformer. But i would like that the deformer could move just the entire objects or polygons , not the points because i want the upper face plane and the wave deform the points like i was making a jitter.
I have tested also the displacement direction of the wave with no results. Is there an easy way to make it?

I have modeled a human character with NURBS and I have to export it to a CAD system (Autodesk Inventor) using the IGES-format. So I can't use any fileformats based on polygons.
When exporting to IGES all colors of the model get lost, but the geometry is OK. I don't use any shaders, textures or complex materials. I would like to use simple object colors / vertex colors.
how to preserve the colors in IGES? Are there any export plugins available that support colors in IGES?

Softimage 2012 'send to' 3dsmax options are unavailable. I only see one option and that is 'update 3dsmax current scene'. If I click that it comes up with 'no ICE TREE to return, canceling operation' and nothing is exported. Would love to be able to use this feature.

My current workflow is to Clone my object, mirror the polygons on the clone and delete the original half of the clone so I have two working halves. Turn symmetry on so the center points stay on the plane. Then I model - edit and extrude and so on, the original, the clone is updated. Well partially.
Here are the problems I am running into:
1) There seems to be no way to add a primitive into a polymesh. Been through the manual and I did not find a way to do this.
2) This leads to the next problem. There does not seem to be a way to properly merge or join objects into the poly mesh without creating a new mesh object. This in effect cuts the relationship to the clone. And anytime I want to add a primitive into the mesh as a starting point or target for creating new geometry, this means doing the clone, mirror, delete process all over. Not exactly efficient. As note here I am talking about connected parts not just putting parts in that could be separate. Such as contours on a car body that merge to a disc where the headlight would be. Just as an example. And I am polygon modeling here.
I am aware of lofting just so you know, but the above was just an example. I'd like to know specifically about working in symmetry.
Any tips on a better workflow to model - create/add new mesh components including primitives and edit them - in symmetry.

I have a problem right now with the weight map visibility.
On PC one, everything is alright, I create a cube, add a weight map property, push ''W'' and start painting. A blue color now appear on my black cube..
On the second PC, I do all the same, but their is no blue color that is revealing under my brush. So I check in the Script Editor and their is a list of Array like it is suppose to create.
I suppose the problem is not the weight map but some visibility option that is turn off, but I can't find them.

I am running Softimage XSI 7.5 Mod Tool on a Windows Vista 32 bit. I cannot open any of my saved scenes, when I do I get an error.
I have done some research and found two things, one, that using a registry fix for windows is the cause of this problem, and two, that the fix to this error is to run the "runonce.bat" file from the "bin" directory. I used a registry fix recently that not only didn't seem to improve my computers performance, but it also stopped XSI from working properly. Apparently lot's of people have had this problem and the fix is fairly simple.
However, when I ran the runonce.bat file, it failed to work, I ran it again this time with a command to produce an error log, and this error came up on about the 25th line: "oleaut32.dll: Registration failed; Result == E_ACCESSDENIED".
Here's where it get's confusing. I created a second windows user, this one not an administrator, logged onto it, and ran runonce.bat. It did not produce the error seen above and instead, when I run XSI from the second user, I can load scenes just fine. But I log back onto the admin account, and the problem persists.
Obviously I'd like to be able to use XSI from my admin account like normal, instead of having to use an "XSI" account. I am fairly certain that runonce.bat's error "oleaut32.dll: Registration failed; Result == E_ACCESSDENIED" is the reason that runonce.bat seems to have no effect.

Create an emission and a surface for collision, create 'Spawn on Collision'. So far it works.
Create a second pointcloud with animated ICEtree and enter the pointclouds name in the 'Spawn on Collision' node. The network turns red.
Not only that, the damage can not be undone by reentering 'self' in the 'Spawn on Collision' node. After this, if one unplugs the Bounce off Surface node for example, and tries to plug it back in one gets a Context Mismatch warning.
Is this a bug?Also tried it with 2012.5 Same thing.

I have a weird texture issue in Softimage.When viewing my model in softimage, everything looks fine. However, when I export to FBX and re-import, half the model texture looks messed up; while the UVs look fine in the viewport:

When I look closely, I notice that the UVs have somehow been rotated in such a way that they look fine, but the edges are all rotated wrongly (the seams don't match up anymore and I can't island select areas)

Exporting to .obj doesn't seem to give this issue, but this is not a good solution as I may need to animate the robot in the very near future...

All of the sudden when I launch 2012 SAP i receive a App.OneClickGetState error. I have tried yes and no on running scripts on page and it just crashes Softimage. I re-insalled it in a new location but still receive the error. How can I turn off Netview on launch or get rid of this error? See attached for error.
How can I delete the "preferences" as it appears to be trying to search for something. Or restart softimage in default mode not addons etc.?

Currently practicing with primitive figures,vertices and edges. After a number of steps, I see no way to reverse steps one at a time. The edit option apparently allows one to 'undo' the last step. Additionally, I would like the option of going back to an original shape e.g. cube without having to close the app without saving.
