Revit :: Spot Elevation Text Wrong In Rotated Dependent Views
Sep 27, 2012
I have just discovered that Spot Elevation text is mesbehaving in rotated dependent views:
If you have an orthogonal parent plan view, then create a dependant view from it, then rotate just that dependant view, then place a spot elevation - the spot elevation symbol respects the rotation of the view (ie its paralel to screen/view boundary), but the spot elevation text remains in the orientation of the parent view. see attached image.
This does not happen if you rotate a normal Revit plan view; nor does it happen with a callout - both cases the symbol and the text are parallel to the view boundary. I think this is a bug?
Anything I can do to stop this happening. Split floorplan layout inserted on sheet to compress length to fit.Section lines appear in both and cant hide in one or the other hence overlapping
I would like to have two different layouts of my site plan. One is existing and does not show any of the new construction. The other is a complete view of the project. Is there a way to keep the existing site plan dependent while turning off the new construction to show only the previous + demo? If I set up a view template I cannot alter in the dependent view to make the changes that I want as options are greyed out. Is the only way to do this to create them as independent views?
We have our first project in Revit that we are having to split among multiple sheets because of the size of the building, so I have made 3 dependent views from the main overall view, named them, cropped them and placed each part (A,B, and C) on separate sheets. Now that I am trying to do enlarged toilet plan views, I want to tag the plans with the plan callouts on the 1/8” sheets that are the dependent views, but all the view tags are referencing dependent view A since it is the first dependent view in the list. If I change sheet A to be named Sheet X for instance, all the view tags now reference sheet B since that becomes the first dependent view alphabetically. I want them to reference the sheet they appear in, but I can’t seem to figure out how to do that, even though they are in different dependent views completely and within the crop region, they all default to the first dependent view in alphabetical order.
With the new(ish) Revit elevation markers, the help files show how to set up an elevation marker that has a horizontal line through it, with detail number above the line, sheet number below it. That works well for orthogonal elevations, but when the elevation is at an angle the central line rotates. How do we stop this - I want the central line to stay horizontal like it does in East, North, South & West elevations (likewise the label locations)?
One of my colleagues was able to insert Spot Elevations by picking anywhere on the surface of his floor objects in his floor plan yesterday (2013 Central file with two users working). Today, when he tries to place the same Spot Elevation object, he is only able to pick the floors at the perimeter of the floor objects instead of the surface of the floor. what setting or mode they accidentally changed to prompt this unfortunate behavior?
Can you make a glass, which is transparency also in elevation views? In 3D views it is transparency and you can adjust it too, but not in elevation view? Is it so?
You can only hide it totally or let it be non transparency?
How can I change the text style of spot elevation labels. I need to have my existing spot el. show as a different text tyle to the proposed spot el. I have attached a picture.

I am trying to create an elevation label that will give me the spot elevation followed by the letters "TC" and then on the line below subtract 4 inches from the elevation followed by the letters "BC". It's easy enogh to add the letters but the simple equation of elevation - 4 inches eludes me.
I'm using InDesign CS5 to create a calendar. I am using rotated view for the spreads. I have page 4-27 I want to send to my client for proofing. I only want the "smallest File" for screen viewing ioption. I've never had a problem creating PDFs. This is the first time using viewer spreads rotated. Wondering if this is creating the problem.
The background task panel has been stuck at 42% for over an hour. InD won't let me quit the save. It won't allow me to close the project window, or Force quit the program.
I'm working in Civil 3D 2012 and when I print to a .PDF with rotated views, the .PDF file is very large compared to file with non-rotated views. how to control the file size?
I've placed the Multi-Segmented Grids in my large project that requires (6) dependent views per floor plan. In each of the dependent views, I'm trying to get the grid markers to show at the ends that ~I~ want them to show, but I'm not getting the checkbox.
We would like to make the transparency of glass-materials visible in views and section-views by using the "realistic style". During a 3d-view our glass-material looks like transparent. Isn't it possible for REVIT to display the transparency of materials in views ?
The workaround to hide "glass" by using "overriding visibility" is not possible for us because some of our families and project families are using glass-materials inside (Showcases f.e.).

Since the end of Aug. 2012 I've been making families for a manufacturer. I left Friday evening with good families. This morning I am finding all the families I checked with a problem.
When I move the cursor across the various views it doubles the views. Rolling the mouse wheel one click either way to zoom in or out cleans the view but on the next time the cursor goes across the view it doubles it again. Now there are 4 views overlapping each other. The next time it is possibly 8, and so on. It is difficult to count them because they are overlapping but it looks like they are doubling each time.
The software is Revit Architecture 2011 and the computer is a Dell Precision T3500.Are the families corrupted or is it the computer? Is there a toggle I hit that I shouldn't have?
I'm creating a advertising video using a iPad tablet in the video. This iPad tablet rotates throughout the video with messages that popup on the ipad screen in different sections. As of right now I have 5 compositions within this iPad video. I created a 6th composition and when I overlay it on top of my 5th composition it would show up in the wrong spot. It either A: Only showed my 6th composition and not my 5th or B. Never shows my 6th composition.
i create a spot color (lab color management) when i create the pdf the spot color haven't the name setting in CorelDraw. If i export eps it's works greats! i don't convert spot in cmyk i want spot color in lab! i use onyx production house and it want spot color lab to renoze cutcontour or spot color as white ink.
How to replicate this? Add a vertical link to an assembly and have it target a profile for the elevation. In the section editor, check out the parameters of the link and see if it reports the correct elevation. Here's a video of what I did, how to do it in your own drawing: [URL]
I need to show feet and meters in my drawing. I got them to show up, however the decimal is in the wrong spot. Instead of it being 1.8288 meters for 6 ft., it's showing as 1828.8. Everything I read says to 'just move the decimal'. But how do I do that without overriding the actual dimension?
xrefing a drawing that has annotated surface labels spot elevations into a Precise Grading Breakout Sheet, but making sure those labels plot screened. How do I make sure I can plot it screened? I have set the label styles By Layer and the text within that style is set By Layer and the Layer I created for the styles is set to plotstyle screened and color 8, I also made sure that the Precise Grading breakout sheet has the xref layers applicable to those surface labels set to screened plotstyle and color 8.
I know that I can add coordinates for such elevation using text component editor but I have to add the letter "N" for North or "E" for East to identify the location of the elevation (North/East/South/West). But, is there a way to make a label style that reads up the location of an elevation automatically?
I've attached pictures below for this issue.

Elevations existing ground gives in the band not the correct value, I putted everything in meters but it still doesn t match with the label that gives the correct elevation, same problem with the offset distance in the band.
I want to add northing, easting and the elevation (point of the middle in the top layers) in section views annotation as you see in the picture, I tried my best but I couldn’t find how to do it.
Is there a work around to extruding a profile that is not parallel to the plane on the path. Im new to revit and want to create a component the way I did in AutoCAD when I could just Extrude a closed poly with a path and it did not care it it was perpendicular to the path.
I am going out to see a client tomorrow and wondered if any of you have came across a problem like this before??
They are inserting images, mainly their logo and all looks fine untill they print...
When printing the images are all mirrored and flipped? I have tried it in my office and all prints fine.. Obviously this points to his printer but I am not so sure....
I have created a simple pipe fitting family, a soil vent pipe terminal infact, but I cannot get the solid body created from a rotated profile to be cut by an arrayed extrusion void. I keep getting the error message, 'Can't keep the elements joined'!
