Revit :: Curves And Precision Settings

Nov 1, 2011

I'm trying to find a setting in Revit that will increase the precision on how Revit draws curves.  For instance, With circles and arcs drawn in revit, you can zoom way in and will see it faceted instead of a smooth curve.  When you export the file into autocad, it puts vertices at the same spots as was shown on the screen in Revit.  Is there a setting in Revit to increase the number of vertices so when I export the file into autocad, at least the number of vertices increases and the curves look more curvy and not so segmented?  Basically I have a user who drew signage artwork in Revit, and we need it in Illustrator. There's not enough time to redraw it all in illustrator, so we know it will be segmented no matter what, but wanted to know if Revit has a setting that will increase the number of vertices hence making it less segmented visually.  I recall theres a setting for this in AutoCAD, just don't know about Revit.

Revit :: How To Edit Precision For Aligned Dimension

Sep 21, 2011

Is it possible to edit the percision for an aligned dimension. I know that the aligned dimension requires walls to be parallel. But what if two walls are .000000002 degrees off from being perfectly parallel? Would that really be enough of a difference to make thealign dimension tool unuseable? Is there a way to change the percision for the aligned dimension to read fewer decimal places? I have a rather large project that is in the later stages of CD's and really don't want to have to recheck the alignment of every wall.

I have also attached an image for reference..  both the sloped surfaces are building pads..

Photoshop :: Craze Curves / Visibility Curves Technique?

Feb 23, 2013

I am preparing a batch of images for test submission, for a stock photo library.Recently a person working for one of the visual effects studios in London happened to tell me that these strict agencies use some set of layers that can separate tonality and color values to check for banding, dirtiness, noise and all those technical flaws that the human eye can't notice on a monitor. He said they perhaps have an action for it so that they can review faster.

He said that it is known as 'Craze Curves' or 'Visibility Curves' technique. He further added that all the studios use it before giving the final files to clients so that there is no issue in printing afterwards. It is sort of a quality control check and has been used by digital and advertising agencies all over the world.

But now his email seems to have changed and I can't get in touch with him to know how to use the technique.

Revit :: Import And Override Material Settings

Jun 21, 2012

We work with prototype buildings that can have material color variations from site to site.  For example, a brick version of a prototype can have several different brick palettes from which to choose.

I'm thinking fo creating generically-named materials in the prototype set - Brick-Base and Brick-Accent, for example - with the idea that the specific material data for the function can be changed for each site-specific building.

While this certainly can be done manually, is there a way to import material data - and not just rendering appearance data but all of the data - into a model, either from another model or better yet, from some sort of data file?  Ideally you would only import the materials for which you need to change the data.

Same for upper level - what lvel does it automatically default. Stair by sketch often involves trial and error and redoing it each time because once done you cant change the levels, rise, width or change the number of segments governed by the path. It would be nice to not have to reset levels each time.

Revit :: Import Geometry Will Not Be Visible In View Using Current Settings

May 23, 2012

I'm trying to import one Revit file into another. When I try to link the file I get a dialogue box that says:

"The import geometry will not be visible in the view using current settings. The Oringin of the import will be centered on the origin of the model instead. You can view the import in any view where its geometry is within the extents."

For this it sounds like the imported model is way off to the side or way up high or low but even in a view that I increase the extents to maximum i can't see the object.

I've tried "center to centre" and "origin to origin". I've check in the visual graphic and can't see anything turned off.

The file i am imported ia a structural model export from Tekla that I imported into a Revit and cleaned up. Everything looks fine when i open the file on it's own.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Curve Tag Precision

Jul 18, 2013

I am working in AutoCivil 3D 2014. I have created a curve table for a plat of an allotment with the precision for the curve length set to "Normal Rounding". My problem is that we have to show data for the individual lot frontage as well as the total length of the right-of-way curve length. So the individual lot frontages must add up to the total right-of-way length.

If they don't, I have to make an adjustment to one of the lengths.  If I change the precision of the tag syle, there is no change in the table. I have attached a screen shot to show my results. The left picture shows a "span" style with the tag and curve length with the precision "truncated". On the right, is what is in the table. I would like to keep the table dynamic and not have to explode it. I think my problem lies in the table and the only way this can work is if I can override the one length in the table. But I have not been able to do that yet.

AutoCad 2D :: How To Snap All Objects To New X / Y Grid (old Was 0.00 Precision Now 0)

Nov 14, 2012

I made a drawing which contains lots of circles with a diameter of 12 and some lines that connect them. Pretty simple.

But.. i made the drawing with a x.xx precision (2 numbers and the program that has to load the .dxf file only likes all objects on the x. precision.. so no tents or hundredths precision.

I changed the precision from "0.00" to "0" in the unit settings but... the objects in my drawing still hanging on the old coordinates.

Is there any simple function or way to bulk action all this objects to the correct precision grid? I worked out that it is possible to select the circles which are in 1 horizontal line with each other and then change the Y setting to (for example) 45.0 if it was at 45 In this way it will put the circles on the correct grid. But... i have 1400 circles and lines

I also saw that the X coordinates of the circles in a horizontal line are different (ofcourse) and will be mentioned in autocad with *VARIES* I thought maybe can do something like *VARIES*.0 to put them on the correct grid but this kind of things didn't work.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Retrieve Dimension Precision In IDW

Oct 17, 2013

I've recently been playing with the "Retrieve Dimension" feature in IDWs to pull the model dimensions and tolerances from the IPT.  I'm wondering if I am understanding the behavior correctly.

The IPT Document Settings > Default Tolerance "Use" and "Export" standard tolerance values boxes are checked.

I have standard tolerances defined for .xx and .xxx precisions.  Default in the IPT is .xxx.

If I place a sketch dimension and extrude a feature, place that part in an IDW, and "Retrieve Dimension," the result is that the dimension's precision and tolerance are defined by the active IDW style.

However, if I place the sketch dimension, and then modify its precision to be something other than the IPT default, when I "Retrieve Dimension" in the IDW, it pulls the modified precision and tolerance from the IPT settings.

Is this the expected behavior?  When I see the box in the IPT Default Tolerance tab that says "Export Standard Tolerance Values," I understand that to mean that the standard tolerance values in the IPT will be propagated to the IDW.  Is this incorrect?

I'm using Inventor Pro 2013
