PS5 Vista. After a layer is converted for smart filters, the whole image still must be made 8 bit to apply a smart filter only to the converted layer, which defeats the purpose of the layer conversion and the utility of smart filters. I would like the rest of the image to remain 16 bit.

Problem: Transform applied to Smart Object fails to transform an attached Smart Filters Mask.
I mean a Transform, including Free Transform, as found in the Edit menu. A simple move by the Move Tool is OK.
A workaround until this bug is squashed is to encapsulate the Smart Object + Smart Filters + Filter Mask inside another Smart Object and transform that.However, that will not be a satisfactory solution in some cases. If a filter has size parameter(s), e.g. Gaussian Blur radius, a scaling or warping/distorting transform applied after the filter will obviously differ from the filter applied after the transform.
In any case, the workaround is inconvenient to subsequent editing and experimenting with filters and masks.
PSDCS6(13.01) Mac 10.7.4. Can you scale smart filters?
At least with layer effects you can:
layer >> layer style >> scale effects
Was disappointed that in CS6 they did not add a way to do this automatically, or at least to be able to do this to multiple layers than each individually. Any info on this besides converting a group of layers to a smart object first before scaling.
I run photoshop 13.0.4 through Creative Cloud, and I've just discovered that I cannot apply certain filters (such as blurs or liquify) to a smart object, even though I am told that this was "fixed" in a recent update.

View 1 Replies View RelatedPhotoshop lets add multiple Smart Filters (SF) to the same Smart Object (SO), and define the blending mode of each SF separately.
Let's say I've a SO with two SF (Gaussian Blur and Median): it looks like they operate in stack, that is: the first filter (Gaussian Blur) is applied to the original SO, while the second (Median) is applied to the result of the first filter (i.e. the blurred SO). As a consequence, if you switch the order of the SF, the result changes. That's the way it is.
My question is as follows: is there a preference / setting hidden somewhere that would make the multiple Smart Filters of a single SO operate *not* in stack, but on the very same SO, letting the blending modes to do the blend? I doubt, but it's fair to ask.
I'm using Photoshop CS3 and when I'm trying to drag and drop an smart filter to arrange it inside a set of smart filters apply to the same smart object, I find a bug with a warning message that says "Could not complete your request because of a program error".
Has anyone been in the same situation as me?
Using Photoshop CC I cannot apply any filter to a converted layer into a Smart Object if I select only a channel instead of RGB channel..Let me explain it with an example:
I create a new layer.Convert it into smart layer (vía menu Filters > Convert… or secondary clic hover the layer, it doesn't matter).
Select only one channel, p.e. green channel.Try to apply a filter… oh, wait! They all appears greyed out
This NOT happens in previous versions of PS, like CS6 or CS5. Neither if I select RGB channel.It happens on 8 bits or 16 bits.
I was positively surprised to find out that many of the options in the tutorial are also in Gimp. However there are something I could not find and I am not sure if this is because they are named differently or else because they are still not there.
The first thing I did not find is "Convert for Smart Filters". In the tutorial it says using this "you can apply filters to the photo while leaving your original in tact. It's a non-destructive way of applying filter effects, as you'll be able to adjust the filters you've applied at any time. First you'll get a message saying the layer will be converted into a Smart Object.".
Another thing I could not find is "Vignette" and "Midpoint"options in Lens Correction (in Gimp I found Lens Distortion) window. Do these exist in Gimp? or can be created with some other filter?
All of my image layers have randomly converted to smart object layers and I can no longer resize them in the ps document. Why would it do this and how can I undo it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI made a wax seal on Photoshop with a lot of embossment, bedevilment and a Smart Filter. It's done and I just need to make it smaller so it fits well on my certificate. When I resize it (Ctr + T) It pops up a message that reads:

I click OK and I re-size the layer with free transform, and then hit enter. The Layer is resized but my Smart Filter which creates a wavy affect around the seal is totally distorted.
How do re-size my layer with smart filter without affecting the smart filter aspect of the layer.
Getting the following message when dragging layers between files - Could not complete your request because an adjustment or fill layer cannot be converted to the destination document mode. Original file was client created and supplied. I have isolated the issue- two hue/saturation adjustment layers. I can and will just recreate them in the new file, but am looking for a root cause or long term solution as it is a new client I believe will be sending me a good amount of production work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedA drawing with hundreds of layers should be simplified for our customer by decreasing the numbers of and renaming the layers (there is yet no target file existing). In order to solve this, I generated group filters and assigned every single layer to them (all printing properties are assigned to objects). The layer groups show the desired layer structure after the transformation (still a three-digit number).
Unfortunately, the LAYTRANS dialog doesn't let me choose layers by group filters or remarks. It seems as all the work was for the birds.
Is there any way to translate my layers using filters or remarks?
I use AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010.
you can match the layer filters with in the layer manager to the drop down on the ribbon..so how do i get the to match so the filter im viewing in the manager is what i see in the ribbon.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having issues with Civ3d 2013. I pushed off upgrading from 2012 because of the format change and the service pack release. I was hoping little glitches would be fixed.
Here are the a couple of glitches to date that I have seen no resolution to in the long list of threads.
1. Layer filters do not filter, unless I have checked "Apply filter to toolbar". The problem is, I dont want to apply them to the toolbar.
2. Publishing to PDF - when set to lines merge (set in the page layout and the publish setting), the wipeouts dont work, and the background masks on leaders makes a faint border around the text in the PDF. When set to overwrite, to get the wipeouts to not print to the PDF as a big black blob, they have to be on a layer set to color 255. I can work around most of the wipeouts, except for dimensions because the background mask doesn't seem to take.
what is the difference between filters and layer styles?
Obviously they have different sets of effects, but what makes an effect one or the other?
I'm currently working on a mock up for a product design, a box container to be precise,And I want one smart object layer to cover both the front and the side, so you can seamlessly design the front and side of the box.
Sadly I haven't found a good way to do this, thought i would be able to with warp but I can't get straight corners with it,
I want to edit in a complete non destructive way, so i work with smart objects and separate blemish removal layers. However, when i double click on my smart object to edit it in camera RAW, after i save the changes, my blemish layer looks like this:
On this particular example, i brought down the exposure on the smart object in camera raw and the corresponding exposure adjustment was not applied to the retouching layer as well. This defeats the whole purpose of making a separate adjustment layer if i have to make a new one every time i make adjustments to to the smart object.
I was messing around in CS6 and accidentally selected "conver to smart object" on one of the layers. So now with layering multiple layers, I can't just select the areas once and use Gaussian blur. I would need to keep re-selecting all the areas for ALL the textures. It's because the layers have become smart objects.
How can I undo my layers being smart objects? I want to just have the regular layers and only want to use the same selection (with the lasso tool) once to erase multiple layers of textures I don't want?
Here is an image so you can see what I am talking about. I don't want ANY smart layers on there. I Just want to do gaussian blur on the layers themselves.
How to get the layer filters that are built in to work in the layer manager without pushing the setting into the toolbar? I had the same problem with LT 2013 on my old 32 bit machine. Others in the office running 64 bit did not have this problem with 2013. Running Windows 7 professional 64-bit.

I'm trying to import layer group filters from dwg to dwg. I know that this feature removed with Autocad 2005. I know i can import layer states, but layer states doesn't solve my problem. I tried "lfilterio" but it's not working.
how to make it, with or without a lisp routine. Or may be write one?
My company uses tons of Xrefs - wonderful, however problem comes when having to navigate through 100's of layers to get to the main drawings layers. So I tried using the layer filters to just show my main drawings layers. Here is the problem, I you can select show all layers, not good, can select just the xrefs (show all of them or show just one of them, etc...), or you can show just the used layers - I tried that, but when you create a new layer it is not included in that filter. I tried setting up a custom layer filter, however, I don't know how to right the name or what selection to make that would allow me to exclude a set of layers.
