I'm trying to apply a gradient to a piece of text. I do this by using the magic wand tool to select the text I want the gradient applied to and apply it.
However, after deselecting the selection, I can see that the gradient has aliased edges that are very visable at 100% zoom.
In this example I did the following
1. used the circle marquee and did a 8 point stroke.
2. Selected the circle with the magic marquee to get an active selection
3. Gradient tool
Doing the above results in jagged edges that alias badly once I fill the selection with the gradient. With a basic color the circle is perfeclty fine, only once I add the gradient the edges become jagged. How might I fix this?
Photoshop worked completely fine until four days ago; now whenever I try to write text it is jagged and not anti-aliased in vector form or once rasterised.

In the above picture you can see alternate options under text aliasing called Windows LCD. These only became visible to me after removing a GPU and all drivers, but with a new GPU it is still present?
My question is, how do you get this aliasing option as a default?
Edit: Bottom text is using Sharp aliasing.
Whenever I type in Photoshop for the last few months, all the text is pixelated and blurry. The problem is impervious to anti-aliasing and resolution changes. The only difference is that with anti-aliasing the image is blurry and pixelated and without, it's just extremely pixelated. Why this problem started, I have no memory of changing a setting that would have caused this.
I've done everything I can think of, including re-setting Photoshop completely to original settings. Even files that I created before the problem began now have blurry text when opened. I esentially can't do anything with Photoshop right now and it is extremely frustrating. The following images are of the text WITH anti-aliasing and then without, both at 12 pt, 400%, 300 ppi.
Is there any way to turn off anti-aliasing in Photoshop CS4 when pasting text from Illustrator CS4?

I have a weird problem with underlining my text while having anti-aliasing off. (Photo-paint X3, version 13.0.0.739)
When I have a large block of text and the underlined word is in the middle, the underline is displaying correctly as 1px line with a 1px space from the baseline. But when the text is either at the end or alone, it looks like there is a 2px underline without any vertical space at all.
See the image attached for clarity.
Font: Arial, size: 12pt, anti-alias off
It happens on two different computers, one with Windows 7 32-bit and one with Windows XP 32-bit.
Here is what I want to do. I have the letters 'XC' which I've played with a bit to look the way I want and due to anti-aliasing has nice edges. Now I want to basically fill those letters with an image. I can't figure out how to do this and keep the nice anti-aliased edges.
Current steps:
1. load image as base layer
2. Create new layer with text in it
3. using magic wand select a threshold that has smoothest edges on text layer
4. select image layer and copy the selection area... notice the hard edges of the finished result in the attached example. I want it nice and smooth and anti-aliased.
How to do this more elegantly? I've attached the basics of what I'm doing and the result.

Im making a nba2k9 cover and the logo for nba 2k9 is white n red. i can color them different colors with the paintbucket but as seein in this link the guy making them can do different gradients? it looks really cool. cant contact him as i have to join their monthly pay plans. The logo is just one picture that he cut from the logo
so i want to color the words as seen in this picture. as you can see they are orange and blue and have that cool white glow in them.
I'm trying to make some text have a gradient color. I write the text, simplify it and then use the gradient tool normally, however, it's applying the gradient to the entire layer instead of just the text. how to add the gradient and followed the insturctions but it's still not working.

I've tried applying the gradient before extruding it but as soon as you make it 3D the gradient dissapears. And there doesn't seem any options to apply a gradient in the inflation material layer. It seems like there is a character limit for this type of text, because I added some characters and it shrunk my selected area further.

I save all gradients at:

I want to create a gradient fill, top to bottom of some text.To do this, I'm creating my text in a solid colour (can't seem to find a gradient fill on the text tool), then wand selecting the background inverting the selection then applying a gradient.
Unfortunately, applying the fill seems to make the text lose all smoothness (anti-aliasing?).I've tried feathering (using Boltbait) but even at 1 it's too aggressive and the text ends up too skinny.
How to maintain the anti-aliasing but also have a gradient.
Looking at the AI file available here (in the Public folder of my Dropbox), why the text takes a gradient when I place it on a perspective grid? I've been working on a pirate-themed design and I've pretty much got it finished. But I was told that it has a lot of problems with aliasing so I've been trying my best to clear up these problems. But unfortunately I haven't had any luck. I've even searched the 'net for some guides but I haven't found any as of yet...
I'm not all that experienced with Photoshop so I don't know how exactly to clear up the aliasing problems. I've tried what some people have suggested but I haven't been able to get the same results. Perhaps I'm just doing something wrong.
I've tried everything else I can think of as well, but it really doesn't make any difference. Either the image remains with aliasing problems or I just make matters worse.
(At one point someone did try to correct the issues for me, but the outlines ended up coming out so bad that I'd have to remake the image all over again, and no doubt end up right back where I started.)
So I thought I might ask here and perhaps someone here knows more about what I could do to clear up these problems. This is my image (which will be resized to 256x256 later on). I can see the aliasing issues, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to fix them. Would, by chance, anyone here be willing to help me with these aliasing issues? Guide me through it, show me what to do, clear them up, or something? Any help at all would be very much appreciated.
Also, in case it would help anyone pinpoint the problem by looking at the original .PSD file with layers, I put it up here. I don't know if it will make any difference, but I figured it was better to be safe.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm creating text that will be printed on a deep gray to black tshirt.
I created text, added an offset path to it with a gradient, and a deep gray color fill on top, achieving the gradient stroke. However, I'm not exactly sure what color the shirt itself will be, other than deep gray to black. And I didn't want the deep gray/black fill in my text to appear and look awkward on the shirt. Unless that is something I shouldn't be considered about.
To be safe, how would you create transparent text with a gradient stroke? I'm using Illustrator CS5.
Just passing along this preview "glitch" in CS5 that could cause some headaches or costly reprints.
We had a file where some text "appeared"on screen as a solid fill even though it was mistakenly filled with a gradient in the colour panel.
When the job was output the type was missing.
Upon investigation it was noted the text was filled with a gradient through the color panel....however the preview did not reflect this. The proper way to apply a gradient to text is in the appearance panel> add new fill>gradient.
This will preview the gradient in the text properly. Shouldn't there be an friendly error message or pop up to warn users that this fill option is not available?
