Photoshop :: Ruler At Extreme Magnifications

Mar 23, 2013

Something that has always bothered me since Photoshop's beginnings was that in high resolution files, at extreme screen magnifications, you can't measure using the rulers easily.  In other programs, as you magnify the image on the screen, the ruler marks will keep reading their measurements. In Photoshop, you only get the full inch readings, not fractions of the inch.  So if I want to draw a guide at 1/16" or find something at 1/16" in Photoshop, all I see is:

You have to shrink the image back down to find the 1" line and then zoom back and count the fractions to find the one you are looking for. I know you can use the ruler tool, but let's say you want to paint, or select starting at 1/16".  Using the ruler tool becomes problematic, when all you want to do is see where 1/16" is on the screen.

Photoshop :: Extreme Magenta In CS3 Vs Window...

Mar 31, 2008

I downloaded all my JPG and RAW files to find that the JPEG images from my 5D have a overload of magenta shift. however when doing quick views in Windows Fax Viewer and BreezeBrowser the images are perfect; however when opening them up in Photoshop CS3 and Bridge the image have a magenta overload.

Unfort. I can not show a screenshot of the Windows Fax Viewer and some images because when I take a screenshot and put into photoshop the magenta appears again.

Photoshop :: Extreme Lag On Mixer And Smudge Tools With (all Layers) Checked

Aug 28, 2013

Running Photoshop CC 64, Win7 x64 on an i7-3820 based machine with 32GB of ram, 256GB SSD, several 2TB drives and a GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB 16X video card.Running the latest non-beta WHQL drivers for the video card,

i have photoshop set to: use graphics acceleration, drawing mode advanced, opencl. When I'm using the mixer brush and with the brush set to sample all layers, depending on brush size, I experience a large lag in rendering. When doing this, my CPU usage is around 10% and disk usage is also low so I'm assuming the graphics card is the bottleneck here.

Images are from a 21MP canon 5dMK II, 8 bit files. I can replicate the problem with a single background layer and mixing/smudging on a 2nd transparent layer set to use all layers.

AutoCAD LT :: Extreme Lag While Drawing PLine

Nov 18, 2013

I have terrible lag whenever I am drawing a polyline.  It seems like it is taking forever to render the preview of the line when I am dragging the line across the screen.  I would prefer to just turn off the line preview if at all possible.  So far, I have not been able to find a way to do this. When I say preview of the line, I am talking about the transparent line that follows your cursor after you start a polyline and exists until you click to place the line where you want it.

I am running Windows 7  Pro 64-bit
Dell Precision M6600
8-gb ram
NVIDIA® Quadro® FX 2800M graphics

Photoshop :: No More Add Grain?

Oct 3, 2012

I used to use the add grain feature and then I would specify the grain to have a horizontal or verticle pattern. Now, I guess there is no more add grain tool unless you use bridge. So, I tried it in bridge and adding grain works but there is no way to make it horizontal or verticle. Is there any other toold that would do this effect?

Photoshop :: PS CS4 Extended And Grain Surgery 2

Mar 8, 2009

Just loaded PS CS4 on my 64 Bit Vista machine. Although loading the Grain Surgery filters, etc into my plug-ins folder works fine, CS4 doesn't 'see" them. Visual Infinity seems to have moved on so I can't ask them. Any one else have this wonderful set and had similar problems. Grain Surgery worked fine on the same machine with CS3. Grain Surgery 2 is or was such a wonderful program.

Photoshop :: Reducing Film Grain

Jul 28, 2004

When you've got a photo which the resolution isnt that great on, you tendt to get this grainy effect. It seems to happen mainly on dark colourslike black. When you zoom in close you can see its made up of various colours. None of which generally tend to be black. Is it possible to get all these coloured pixels roughly the same colour so that you can get a smoother finish.

Ive tried various things like the heal brush, few filters etc but nothing really seems to do the trick.

Photoshop :: Excessive Grain / Noise After Editing In CS5 RAW

Jul 26, 2011

I have a Canon EOS 450D and started taking photos in RAW and edited the photos afterwards with the PS RAW editing function. Often, the result on the "RAW screen" is good enough and I do not open PS CS5.

The following happened (I edited nearly 100 photos like this, but printing them was a disaster!). Image during editing in RAW:

Settings:

Setting under image in RAW:

Printing photo- a scan:

Watching the photo for the first time in PS:

What went wrong? Did I sharpen too much and if so, why did the picture still showed very nice on the "RAW" image? The size of most of the photos are more than 10 MB.

Photoshop :: Shooting Panoramas

Aug 22, 2005

I am trying to shoot a panorama (6 - 7 photos) and merge the photos using Photoshop. Photoshop is doing a nice job of merging the scenes. However, the shade of the sky on each photo is a little different (the buildings and other objects look fine, or at least differences aren't perceptible) thus, I have distinct lines between each photo in the sky (or water) areas. How can I correct this in Photoshop (I'm a casual PS user, and I have PS CS2) so that all the sky (and water) areas look the same?

When shooting JPEGS then if we want to save them as EPS what will happen with the quality of the images? If we shoot them as RAW images then bring them into PS and save as PSD then EPS what do we gain by doing it that way? What is the right way to do it and why?

How to achieve the "chalk" look!  Grain effect seems to work the best for me (except the color issue).
