View 8 RepliesWhen you've got a photo which the resolution isnt that great on, you tendt to get this grainy effect. It seems to happen mainly on dark colourslike black. When you zoom in close you can see its made up of various colours. None of which generally tend to be black. Is it possible to get all these coloured pixels roughly the same colour so that you can get a smoother finish.
Ive tried various things like the heal brush, few filters etc but nothing really seems to do the trick.
I scan mid format film, and I would like to ask you what is the best way to remove or reduce film grain/noice ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been working with this tutorial to modify some images. Link
I am unsure how to do one particular step however. Under 'Step 2', it reads:
"Next add a new layer to the image, and use the bucket to fill it with your tileable noise."
I can activate the bucket tool, but what am I doing with it?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI used to use the add grain feature and then I would specify the grain to have a horizontal or verticle pattern. Now, I guess there is no more add grain tool unless you use bridge. So, I tried it in bridge and adding grain works but there is no way to make it horizontal or verticle. Is there any other toold that would do this effect?

View 6 Replies View RelatedJust loaded PS CS4 on my 64 Bit Vista machine. Although loading the Grain Surgery filters, etc into my plug-ins folder works fine, CS4 doesn't 'see" them. Visual Infinity seems to have moved on so I can't ask them. Any one else have this wonderful set and had similar problems. Grain Surgery worked fine on the same machine with CS3. Grain Surgery 2 is or was such a wonderful program.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Canon EOS 450D and started taking photos in RAW and edited the photos afterwards with the PS RAW editing function. Often, the result on the "RAW screen" is good enough and I do not open PS CS5.
The following happened (I edited nearly 100 photos like this, but printing them was a disaster!). Image during editing in RAW:
Settings:
Setting under image in RAW:
Printing photo- a scan:
Watching the photo for the first time in PS:
What went wrong? Did I sharpen too much and if so, why did the picture still showed very nice on the "RAW" image? The size of most of the photos are more than 10 MB.
I have recently acquired an image from around 1850 that I am restoring and I was wondering if anyone had advice on this one issue. The photo has alot of grain to it in the dark areas of the photo. When I start bringing the photo back to life the grain is even more noticeable obviously. Does anyone know of a good technique to remove this kind of extreme grain?

I have used noise reduction, dust and despeckle as well as gaussimer blur as it is a portrait. View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using the Texture --> Grain effect to give my fonts and graphics that "chalkboard look", however the grain effect makes everything that I add the effect to White. Can I not have any color using the grain effect? For example, my font is yellow but when I add the grain effect, it turns white. Is white my only option with Grain effect?
How to achieve the "chalk" look! Grain effect seems to work the best for me (except the color issue).
While trying to complete a Gimp tutorial I've come across this line:
Set the fusion mode to "Grain Merge".
What fusion mode is? And where do I find "Grain merge".
I'm fairly new to using bump maps and have a question about a wood grain bump map.
I am using a bmp file in the material editor for the wood grain, along with a UVW modifier to make the grain run differently on the different pieces of the furniture. I was hoping to "enhance" the appearance of the grain on the wood, so I thought I would try a bump map by using the same bmp file and set it to 30%. While there is much more texture to the grain than wanted, I'm wondering why the vertical instances of the wood do not seem to have the map applied?
Aside from that question, is there a better way of enhancing the grain pattern without necessarily increasing the texture?
So I was making some pics less blurry using a method invloving grain extract, and in one pic I forgot a step and saved it in its grain extract mode. Is there any way to change the picture back into its original? It's too late to just press undo since I already closed GIMP.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to remove a red fog band from an image I've scanned. I've tried following the method detailed in the Martin Evening book where he takes the green channel and pastes it to a layer above the main image. He then sets the layer to darken.
Trouble is in his image in the book the red goes grey and the unaffected part of the image only discolours slightly. On my image the majority of it goes grey with only one or two colours showing through at all (yellow mostly).
Moving onto the next step of colourizing the image cyan makes little difference.
how to create pix like this, is it a effect are is it the camera.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to salvage through photoshop. I developed this roll at school a few years ago, and thanks to a less than perfect plumbing system I had to develope in water that was too cold. The film of course came out super grainy, and to top it off a few of the photos "somehow" got scratched in the school's drying closest (imagine that.) I've played around with them a bit, trying to fix them up, but my corrections always seem really obvious or compromise the image.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using 1920*1080 jpg images (frame captured from video) (but it seems i can have the same problem when i use bigger photos)
I'm editing them on a mac laptop (MPB), with a 1440*900 screen, in fullscreen mode, but with the editing column on the right side. So while i edit them, my images are about 1000pixels wide or a bit more. (It's fine for me since it's for being viewed on computers)
I apply a light grain but then i can't really see it in Library module or when i export the jpg... It appears that the Grain is actually rendered much more present in Develop Mode than in Library module. (When i zoom on the image to 100% then it's the same, but i don't want to edit my pictures in 100%...)
See crop of the images here, Develop Module on top, Library module bellow:
[URL]
This bug is really annoying because all my NR/Grain fine ajusts on my pictures are wrong when i then export my pictures. So for now, the only workarounds are either to take 'screenshots' of my pictures while i'm in Develop Module using cmd-shift-4!! (This is what i'm doing at the moment, but then i would also have like to have them in bigger resolution) or i would have to switch continually to Library module while editing my photos....
May i know which app adobe uses, to capture film from working in Photoshop cs6, for their adobe videos, tutorials and podcasts? I've heard, there must be an official app, but i forgot the name.
