Photoshop :: Brush Painting On Adjustment Layers Is Not Working At Correct Opacity
Dec 9, 2012
brush painting on adjustment layers is not working at the correct opacity. For example I have it set for 100% but its only working at 10 or 20%. How can I fix this?
In Photoshop 6 the preview of the brushsize get almost invisible when working with low opacity, the same problem occurs when working with Dodge tool and low exposure.
In earlier versions the preview showed in 100% even if working in low opacity. Now it's impossible to se how big feather och the size of the brush without first going up too higher opacity. Can I somehow show the preview in 100% even if working in low opacity like 3%?
I've moved from using destructive adjustments to the nondestructive adjustment layers, but I can't seem to get a handle on how to use the history brush? Â I've tried taking a snapshop of the current state with adjustments. then click back to the original snapshot as the source, hoping the history brush would work, but it doesn't. is there a way to use the history brush with adjustment layers? Â I've see one demo that doesn't exactly use the history brush, the paint black on the adjustment layer to expose whats beneath it.Is this how you need to work with adjustment layers?
When I try to use the adjustment brush by selecting the brush, the sliders shown for the brush change the complete photograph, which I do not want it to do. When I use the brush it makes changes. But, if I make a slider change that I want for the brush it actually changes the complete photograph. It has worked properly in the past. I was able to make a slider change and it would only make changes to the area the brush selected.
When I select the adjustment brush and paint across the image no changes are made. I have tried moving the sliders to the extremities but no effects to the image are made.
My adjustment brush is not working. I can select it, move it, etc. but it makes no changes. i.e. I want to whiten teeth, I have tried to adjust exposure, brightness, contrast even make them green nothing works. But I can move the brush, it shows up as if I had made changes when I click the done button and reselect my adjustment brush but no change has been made!
Is there somewhere a list of Adjustments/Modes that the History Brush DOESN'T work with?Perhaps I should re-phrase that.I can get the History Brush to work with say Blur but I can't get it to work with Blending modes or a various adjustment layers.
this worked until yesterday. I didn't install any software on the pc or change any settings that I can think of. I'm using photoshop cs2. I've rebooted the computer several times and I've quit/restarted photoshop several times.
when I create an adjustment layer, I cannot paint black in the mask area. I can fill with black and paint white. if, after filling black and painting white, I press D (to swap foreground/background colors), I can paint, a paintbrush thing shows up in the history, but it won't change. if I press D again, and paint some more white, it shows up in white. likewise, if I choose black another way (eyedropper, setting rgb to 0,0,0), it behaves the same. likewise, if I don't start out by filling black, and I just try to paint black on the white mask, it behaves the same (doesn't work).
if I create a new layer, I can paint black on it. If I switch to the pencil tool rather than the brush tool, I can pencil black into my adjustment layer masks.
any suggestions?
or what info can I get for you so you have a good place to start?
I was retouching a painting earlier and i could not get every detail because my adjustment layers stopped allowing me to paint on the mask. Â I switched from ps v13 and v12 and niether would allow me to paint on the mask. All of the correction i did were on adjustment layers. I would add an adjustment layer and tweak it then invert the mask and then paint with the brush. Then i would merge layers. After about 4 merges it stop allowing the painting on the mask.
I am attempting to use the actions panel to edit a large number of product shots quickly. I have disabled the generator, which was a possible solution I saw in another post, closed my photoshop, opened it up again and tried it on a new file.
None of my adjustment layers do what I set them out to do, but they do show up as layers in my layers panel. The only part of the action that works is my smart sharpen. I created the actions in CC and I don't know where to go next.
My adjustment brush in LR 5 suddenly quit working. It paints a white smudge instead of doing what it should. Even with the latest update, Ver. 5.2, the results are the same.Â
Using Photoshop Elements 10. I am unable to edit an Adjustment Layer. When I double click the layer thumbnail or click layer content options, nothing happens. This is the case with new files as well as files that had adjustment layers created with Photoshop Elements 6. Fill layers work ok, but adjustment layers such as Levels and Hue/Saturation won't work....
This is pretty weird. Brand new .lrcat, working through a few family pictures. The first few photos, the adjustment brush was working. A few minutes into it, it stopped working, or at least stopped having nearly as substantial an effect. If I push exposure by +4, it looks as if it's pushing it by .4. Same with other sliders - they are barely applied. Â Did I hit some button that globally diminishes the brush strength or something? Â Note that, in the second image, the adjustment brush is centered on his head. It's a little different than the first image, but certainly not to the extent one would expect from the sliders pushed to their extremes. Â Just for a point of trivia, I installed QuickTime while working in LR. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but restarting LR and creating a new catalog did not remedy the problem.
I have checked the brush is in black and in normal mode. It just will not edit when I add a layer or layer mask. It has always worked fine up until yesterday
I'm trying to create a oil painting feel to a project I'm doing. Before I start I wanted to ask around first about the best brush to use, or a brush that I have to play around with the presets to create a good effect for the project. Any tips for this type of look is welcomed. As a reference point I'm using a jpg of planet Earth for this project if it helps out in describing the effect I might come out with.
I am having a problem with my brush/stamp/eraser tool in photoshop CS5.5. Whenever I click to paint, erase..etc it will sometimes randomly paint elsewhere on my photo. Sometimes it will paint just one spot or other times it will paint a whole line or squiggle across my photo. I have checked my brush settings and I don't have anything turned on for it to do so (i.e. scattering, shape dynamics, spacing).
Does anyone know how to photo shop calculates the resulting color when using brush opacity?
For example If I paint over a section with 100% brush opacity, then go over it again with another color with 100% brush opacity then the new color replaces the old. But what happens if when I go over the first color with a new color set at 50% opacity? How does Photoshop calculate the resulting color?
How to Apply adjustment layers to multiple layers that have different blending modes and keep the colors the same as the adjustment done?  I work in Animation painting Backgrounds. My files are sometimes upwards to 200+ layers.I will use adjustment layers to quickly balance colours and constrast on top of those many many layers.  The only way that I know of how to apply adjustment layers it to every single layer ( by applying I mean I need to get rid of the adjustment layers because we cant use them in production but i need the new colours be applied to all layers underneath ) in a psd is to manually do it By duplicating the adjusment layer 200+ times and then merging each layer to one of those adjustment layers so that that layer can take the adjustment layers effect permanently.  The issue is that Within Those 200 layers I have some layers set to Multiply or OVERLAY.   IT obviously wont apply the adjustment layer properly to those layers because those layer blend mode affect the layers under them. The colour wont be the same anymore in the spots that had the multiply blended mode.

I have 2 adjustment layers up top. I need to get rid of them by applying them to each layer! I cannot merge any of the layers. We need all those layers for production.I can apply the adjustment layers manually and this works GREAT for all Layers set to normal. THey take on the colour change just FINE.  However, The issue is that layer 6 and layer 4 are both set to mutiply and this screws up the colour once i apply the adjustment layers to each layer manually...  How can i apply my adjustment layers to a file like this with some layers being set to multiply while keeping the layers exactly the same configuration and The new colour taking effect exactly how i looks before i apply the adjustment layers? Now the simple solution is to merge the multiply layers to the layer that it affects HOWEVER I NEED those multiply layers to be separate!Â
I want to add the same 3 adjustment layers to about 20 photos and then in scripts, export layers to files, so that each photo includes the adjustments.
How do I create layers in an adjustment layer and transfer or duplicate those layers in another image ?  I need to transfer the same colour readjustment from one image to several other images ... I have been told to do this in the adjustment layer platform how ever I cannot drag or copy those layers over to the other images I have open and in need of adjustment to the same layers ...  Images shows my layout and what i've done this far
I have been searching for a brush, preferably a soft round, that will grow in circumference as I paint a straight line. Â i.e. : a brush that starts at say 15px then changes to (e.g.) 18px then 21px, 24px, 27px so on and so forth (And I mean one that will do this without having to stop and change the px size manually). Â I tried the brush settings where one can change the angle, roundness, px size etc. but there doesn't seem to be a setting that'll provide what I'm trying to achieve. Â I've been Google'n for the last 45+ minutes without any luck. Founds lots of other really nice brushes & btw, if a brush says that it's for Photoshop Cs4 do you know if that means I cannot use it for Cs6? Just wondering. Â So, if you already have such a brush would you be willing and/or able to share, or if you know how I can make one myself, that would (also) be great. Â
PS. If making a brush is difficult to explain just tell me and I will find a tutorial online. I don't mean to ask you to do my homework.
Just wanted to double check if the brush cursor rotation updates realtime in Photoshop CS6 WHILE painting. i.e. not when Intuos Art pen is hovering but in the middle of the stroke.  Previous thread on same topic, but with no conclusion :Â
In CS6 when I increase/decrease size of my brush using alt+right-click on pen tablet, sometimes I also unintentionally change brush opacity by couple percentage (obviously my hand won't move perfectly horizontally every time I want to do it). It kills flow during work of course and I have to stick to CS5 for now unfortunately.I have only found option for turning off hardness change in preferences.
I've run into two problems using the brush tool: Â 1. When I use a low opacity to gradually build up highlights in a drawing the opacity seems to skip a few strokes: Nothing is actually happening after a fes brush strokes and then suddenly there's a bright line, nothing inbetween. It looks like i was drawing with 50% opacity even though it was actually 5%. All other option such as pressure sensitivity are turend off. Â 2. When drawing a straight line with the brushtool, and then zooming in, I can see the individual spots that make up the brushstroke. It looks like brushspacing was on even though it wasn't. Â I use cs6 on a windows 7 platform and have a wacom intuos 4. Â my graphic card is a GeForceGT 540M
I have now exactly the same problem as below with over 1000 images, I have saved them in .psd that has over 100 layers each. On top of those there is curves and levels layer that affects every layer below. I want to save all images to .jpg for videoedit with those curves at least. I don't want to merge same curves 100 times. Is there a solution in phothoshop cs5 or cs6 available? Would save alot of working hours. All I have got by this far is blank white images of adjustment layers and non adjusted jpg-files. Â This discussion was opened in 2010 and I quess this is same problem: " How to merge adjustment layers to hundreds of layers?
Jul 28, 2010 10:38 AMSay I have a photoshop File with 100 layers.Â
And say I created 3 adjustment layers on top of those 100 layers to get the adjustments that i want for those layers.  I'm happy with the adjustments but Then I NEED to merge those 3 adjustment layers to ALL those 100 layers. Â
Is there a way to easily permanently apply the adjustments to each of those layers without having to do it manually? I absolutely need to merge the adjustments to the seperate layers because of how the layers are being used in a seperate 3d program.    So far what I've been doing is duplicating the adjustment layers for each layer and merging them to said layers separately.. I wish I could just right click the adjustment layer and Tell it to merge to everylayer it affects or apply to every layer underneath it!
