Dec 3, 2008I have an images and I want some part of this image and it is difficult to use marquee tool for that selection. So I want to know about alpha masking. I heard it is for complex selection.

View 1 RepliesI want to have an image file on layers one and two and then have the text on layer three. I want the image of layer two to be in the text of layer three but I can not get this effect to work. As of now I am typing the text on layer three an merging it with the image on layer two. I then apply the layer mask and use the magic wand tool in the text.I know there has got to be a better way.
Can I use an image texture for my text?
I have PhotoShop CS2
I did a search for this, but couldn't find anything. If there is something, please feel free to send me in that direction. I use Photoshop a lot for my 3D work. Usually, when I render an image sequence out, I have the mask saved in the alpha channel. Unfortunately, ZBrush doesn't allow me to do that, and instead saves the mask out as a separate image. I need to add the alpha mask to the color plate file. Is there any way to do this with batch processing?
View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen I added a layer mask to a layer, it would display in the palette as the alpha channel, which was very handy. Now, when I add a layer mask, it only appears as the mask icon; i.e., gray square with white circle in the middle. I have no clue what I did to change from the one to the other, but I would certainly like to get the alpha representation back!
View 3 Replies View Relatedto make the text image in the attached file. I want to apply a bevel to the text now that I have alpha masked it to get the gradient effect. But the bevel tool is treating the entire image (not just the text) as my selected object.Â
Â
When I get done with the alpha mask, how do I get the text only as my selected object so that the bevel tool will apply the bevel to only the text?
Â
I'm trying to get the text effect in this link: [URL] or something close to it. A previous post asked the same thing but the only answers he got was how to make it look gold, not how to do all the beveling, textures, sparkles, etc. For now though, all I'm wanting to do is achieve the bevel effect before I move on.
edit: the weird thing is, I can use the outline tool and it will apply only to the text. but when i use the bevel tool, it applies to the outer edges of the canvas.
I need a tutoral for colouring in my pencil sketch, and I've already used Alpha Mask/Isolate Lineart on it. The problem is I don't know how to colour it in. I googled, but the results are pretty much all about Photoshop..
View 1 Replies View Related(CS3) I have a raster layer that has some semi-transparent pixels.

(If possible, merging the alpha channel with what I have already placed into the layer mask.)

View 1 Replies View Relatedany difference between alpha layer and alpha channel? I mean has to be right? I just don't know what exactly that would be if there is. I'm trying to figure out some more stable uses for computer graphics when building textures with alpha layer or alpha channels. So far I get a flicker from opengl bug when using alphas. So I'm wondering if I use Alpha layer and something with a solid color underneath the geometry if I could achieve a more stable result where alpha sorting. Possibly clearing it up where my alpha layered geometry stays on top vs bleeding through at times it seems.

The thing is I've learned how to do both of them, but every textbook exercise I've done regarding one I found out that I can pull off with the other too.
Are they simply two different mechanisms for doing the same thing?
how to manipulate the size of the wipeout for a text mask.Â
Simply selecting the masked text in C3D 2011 provided pick boxes at the four corners of the wipeout, making it very easy to manipulate the size of the wipeout box. I'm hoping to do the same in C3D 2012, but the wipeout seems to be treated like a block and lacks the pick boxes.A system variable maybe?
While creating various circular masks with a radial gradient from white to black, whenever I change the blending mode of the mask path Ai will throw me out of mask mode into layer editing mode. Since this is on a large document of ~2Gb file with multiple artbords for large poster & UI refresh speed is slow, this has become quite frustrating. Is this normal Ai behaviour?

Once I use a Clipping Mask on a layer is the entire document covered in a mask?
Â
And/or is all the artwork from then on inside the mask?
Â
I've read about how to add and how to remove art from a mask. I've read about how to make and release and lots of other things.
Â
So, then I went and found a lesson that contained the use of a Clipping Mask.
Â
I am suppose to Select the main shape and "just" copy it and move it down (doesn't say rather to Paste in front or back but I assumed in back ~ not that it has mattered thus far)
Â
However, while making the main shape I used Gradient Mesh and used an Offset to create a "replica" and so when I go to Select the main shape the mesh is selected and so when I Paste (in back ~ seems most logical) and then move it down the details such as the colors of the Gradient and other such things are visible in front ~ ??
Â
So, I have been trying to abate my problem in lots of different ways.
Â
I have tried using the Pen tool to draw behind the main shape, I've tried making a New Layer and placing it above and below and inbetween the main shape layer, I've tried adding the artwork to the Mask ... I've tried everything I can think of and I've been through many an article in the manual and FAQ's to no avail.
Â
I suppose, what I think I need to know ... is, how ... how on earth do I draw behind this main shape? Am I not able to do it because I am not getting behind the Mask?
I have been trying to and a layer mask to my image. When I go to unmask my image it wont work it shows it in the layer mask thumbnail but not in the real image.

I have used an alpha channel to create some quite impressive weathering/scratches on a scratch drawn metallic background. My issue is that this image has been created for use on the internet and I cannot for the life of me find a way to save the image in a web friendly format and retain the scratches. Is there a particular way to merge this image as if I were merging layers to retain the scratches on the final JPEG? It may be something simple as can be but for the life of me it is STUMPING me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having the hardest time trying to get an flv with transparency.
I have a series of numbered photoshop files. Each file contains one partially transparent layer (no mask), and when I open the files as an image sequence, the transparency looks good. However, when I export to FLV with Alpha enabled, my FLV doesn't seem to have an alpha channel.
I created alpha masks in "Channels" , when I click "Layers" tab I can see the effect
but when I try to save that image for web I see that mask was not applied.
So my question is:
How do I actually apply the mask created in Alha Channel.
What's alpha channel & how to use it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have created two masks with channels to use on an image. Now I want to combine the two channel masks into one to use. I made a new layer in channels of the composite masks which gave me an Alpha channel. The Alpha channels show the solid black paint lines where I filled in the selection voids. These solid lines affected the adjustment layers so I ended up doing some erasing at 50%. Not the shortest workflow direction. How can I combine two channel masks (selections) into a common selection and save as a new Channel?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI created an alpha channel with marquee tool on a colored backgound, by using "select > save selection", the alpha channel appeared at the bottom of the channel palette. I know the white part should represents transparency and the black part is opaque. But when I import this into the Adobe premiere6.5, the thing is reversed, I have to use "alpha channel" plus "reverse" option to get what I want - see through the "white" part. I heard there is an option in the photoshop with which you can define whether you want "white" is transparent, black is opaque or vice versa,

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am currently making a skin for a boat, for a game called virtual skipper. Anyway I am doing this in PS Elements 7.0. I need to add alpha layers/channels to make the sails slightly transparent, or not transparent. I can't seem to find anything that tells you how to do this in Elements. So I assume it is not possible, or no one has done it before. So if anyone can help me with this, please do. I have made an adjustment layer and added white 80% transparent, over the sail layers. But when I save this as .DDS will the white adjustment layer dissapear like an alpha layer and leave semi-transparent sails or will it come out as it looks?
