Photoshop :: Photo Restoration (Advanced)

Dec 18, 2008

remove the majority of marks, white areas, improve the texture of the background, and the clothing & facial features (even colour).

Also the bike wheels have grungy white marks.

I am aware of, and have experience of using the clone tool, but for me it doesnt seem to work too well here (which may be down to my skill level)

Photoshop :: 16 Bit Depth Photo Restoration

Apr 4, 2013

I use an older version of Photoshop.  It is able to import and read a 16 bit depth file.  Though it is limited in what it can do with this bit depth, it can do the levels and curves adjustments on an image. I want to have the best quality scan to start with for photo restoration in my older Photoshop. I won't be able to directly import the file with my older Photoshop from the scanner.  If I scan a photo as a 16 bit 600 ppi image, I'm afraid color information will be lost when I open it in the older Photoshop.  Is there any way I can open and save such a file without losing all that good color information? I know I would need to save it in a format that supports 16 bit depth like png versus jpeg.

Photoshop :: Photo Restoration At What Percent...

I'm in the process of scanning in old photos and retouching them in Photoshop. I have many books on the subject and have been using Photoshop for 2 years now..

I'm curious as to what percenage are corrections made. When you look at a photo at 25% of the size it looks one way, but when you zoom into 100% it's obviously another.

I was hoping someone else might remember the URL of a site I'm looking for. It's a user group site for photoshop retouching and restoration. It posts photos that need work and anyone interested in trying their hand works to restore it and then reposts their version. The users then critique each poster's attempt.

Photoshop :: Restoration Reducing Grain In An Old Photo

Jul 20, 2006

I have recently acquired an image from around 1850 that I am restoring and I was wondering if anyone had advice on this one issue. The photo has alot of grain to it in the dark areas of the photo. When I start bringing the photo back to life the grain is even more noticeable obviously. Does anyone know of a good technique to remove this kind of extreme grain?

Photoshop :: Black And White Photo Restoration

Nov 10, 2005

What I have is a photo of a classroom with pupils seated and teachers standing against a large windows on one side of the room.

The photo was taken pointing towards the windows so that the pupils near the camera are perfectly exposed but the ones nearest the window are too light and faded out.

I'm sure I read a tutorial some time ago about dealing with this type of thing but I can't find it anymore.

Photoshop :: Advanced Sci Fi Photo Manipulation?

Sep 17, 2006

I want to create a series of photomanipulated images that I would title "Be Extraordinary." Basically, I want every picture to be a picture of me doing some sort of extraordinary thing, leaning more towards sci-fi stuff. I already have an idea for one of me wielding a lightsaber, but after that, I've run out of ideas for anything I know how to do in Photoshop. I had an idea for me creating some sort of energy shield, but I simply don't know how to really create that effect in Photoshop.

Photoshop Elements :: Advanced Button Missing In Adobe Photo Downloader?

Sep 25, 2012

Has a fix become available for the 'advanced dialog box' option in PSE 9?  My partner has just changed his laptop and now realises that PSE 9 won't give him the option of pre-selecting photos, due to the smaller screen.  The laptop won't display at 800 res.  The height of the screen is too small.  He's annoyed because this problem will affect all users of PSE 9 who get a new laptop with a smaller height screen, which is most new laptops!!  It ran perfect on the old Sony Vaio..... till the graphics card went seriously dead!  Has this problem been resolved with PSE 10 or 11?  If so, it might be worth upgrading to one of those.

VideoStudio :: Match Photo Duration To Music In Advanced Editing?

Feb 11, 2011

With X2 and prior versions I could use the Make Movie Wizard (?) and add photos and music then match the photo duration to the music. Then I could close this and return to VideoStudeo advanced editor and my clips and music would be on the timeline. How do I do this in X3?

I can see where I can use DVD MovieFactory 7se and do this but I can't return this information to the advanced editor. I don't want to create a video file and use that I want to use the actual photos and music so I can do further editing.

Photoshop :: Image Restoration?

Jun 2, 2008

I have a picture which has been edited and saved (some stuff was drawn on it). However, when checking the picture in my folder (a small tab image), I am able to see the old (original) picture. Therefore, I know that the data of the old image must still be saved somehow/somewhere. (Note: the image was NOT edited on my computer).

is there any way I can 'undo' the editing and recover my old/original picture?

Photoshop :: Restoration--Matching Background Shape To Original

Sep 7, 2004

I have a restoration order I have done and everything is great except that I cannot get the background on the restoration to match the original "yellowed" color of the original photograph.

The original is an old time school class photo from the 1940s, with the pictures of each of the students in ovals on what looks to be Kodak Ektalure N paper.

Naturally it has yellowed over time and our customer would like the same yellowed look to the restorations.

I am sure there is a simple way to take a reading of some kind off of the original and use that reading in Photoshop to match the background "off white" color of the original.

Are many of you who are doing restoration work profiling your scanners?

VideoStudio :: DVD Footage Restoration

Apr 4, 2013

I have a DVD of some old 1937 film footage. It was obviously taken as a direct transfer from degraded film stock. I have loaded it into Videostudio from the DVD (which VS has loaded as .mpg files) I have applied some sharpening and visual filters and want to export the footage. Is it best to export to DV and then use that to remake a DVD or burn the DVD direct from VS? I am assuming that trying to reburn the DVD will involve some re-encoding anyway, so either way isn't going to make a difference other than having a DV file to archive.

what I am trying to do with reference to the file conversion aspect and minimising loss of quality.

Photoshop :: CS5 OpenGL Advanced Grayed Out?

My current system includes Windows XP (32bit) SP3 with 4 Gb Ram, ATIV4900 FirePro video card, Dell U2711 monitor (supports 10bit), Version 8.85.7.3 of the catalysts drivers.

I have enabled 10 bit within Catalyst and went to Preferences Performance to enable the 'Advanced" mode of OpenGL only to find it grayed out. I searched and read where others had had similar issues though most were on a 64 bit system. OpenGL version is 6.14.10.10795.

My computer is using the Dell provided driver for the U2711 monitor.I am also using the display port cable to drive the monitor at its native 2560 x 1440 resolution.

Photoshop :: ImageReady: Advanced Rollover

Mouseover a slice -> Change visibility of some layers

When I 'save optimized' ImageReady is saving ALL the slices in the image, not the ones that require updating. So basically if I have N mouseovers, I have N versions of each slice, even though they are identical (with different filenames)

I only want certain slices to be updated during these mouseovers. How can I do this?

how to use displacement maps, the crucial thing about this tutorial was that a the map was used on a green image which provided a very nice "closeup of a green leaf"-effect with streaks and lines.

Photoshop :: Where To Place Advanced Techniques

May 26, 2004

With the incredible amount of talent that exists on this site, with the "carded" pros and the guys who have been around the block and have hit every curb, it seems to me that a new forum catagory could be opened. "Tips from the Pros" or some such.

I know the Advanced area exists, and is rarely visited, and is good for those already 'advanced', but maybe something up front in the forum would help the average guy or gal. I've been doing digArt for about ten years or so, and there is not a day goes by, where I don't pick up something from someone else, new to the medium or not.
