Sep 4, 2001when an image is brought up into ps6, it's layer (layer 0) is automatically locked. ive been have big problems with my comp lately, and if i double click on the layer to unlock it, my comp freezes up and i have to restart. my question is, is there any keyboard command or setup preference command that will allow me to unlock the layer on just bring the image up already unlocked? id prefer just to be able to bring the image up already unlocked.

Jun 18, 2009Trying to unlock a layer. I did a Photoshop search and came up with "Nontransparent background layers are locked. To change the stacking order, color, blending mode, or opacity of a locked background, you must unlock it by converting it to a standard layer.
1. Double-click the Background layer in the Layers palette.
2. In the New Layer dialog box, type a name for the layer.
3. Set the layer options as desired, and click OK. Photoshop converts the Background layer into a new, editable layer."
IT DOESN'T WORK!
Yes, I can put in a new name in the layers palette, but the darned thing stays tightly locked. Nothing else happens other than the new name. No options become available. And there's nothing I can see in the "Layers" drop down that will help.

May 29, 2012I have a Mechanical drawing with numerous Xrefs. I need to make changes to the Plumbing layers which is in O-Xref layer. I have tried to bind all Xrefs but cannot bind all of them. The piping is in the O-Xref layer. I cannot explode nor can I Xref-Edit anything in this layer. This is one of a number of drawings but this is the first one that I cannot explode or edit the layer and I have never run into this problem before.
Is there a way that the file can be locked up to prevent editing?

Sep 19, 2011I've looked and saw quite a few messeges on the same topic but couldn't find some good resolve : I'm in an assembly, trying to hide/supress some component, and it keeps saying that the view is locked (I do see "lock" logos on all the views) and I should unlock it or create a new one, which I don't want - I want the changes to be on the main "master" view)

Mar 27, 2009At a point I want to unlock all layers where the objects are selectable (layers unfrozen and turned on).
If I have the script initiate the layer command then there is the select options list and "u" is for unlock. It then wants a layer name or return to select items. Here is where the problem is when i'm in control I can just hit return to select the items and just select all, but when the script is running it skips my space for a return and goes to the next all statement and errors saying not a valid option. Is there a way to force that return to select the objects?
Illustrator :: Unlocking Linked Files With Artwork
Apr 9, 2013Occasionally I have to edit or use old pdf files that were created by my predecessors, who created the files by linking artwork placed within the file. Ordinarily that wouldn't be a problem, except that the folders containing all the linked files are long gone. When I open the files in Reader, I can zoom in on the images very closely and see that the image in very high resolution, which seems to indicate that there is vector art within the file, but when I open in Illustrator I get the message that says the artwork is no longer located at the indicated link. Is there any way to get this phantom version of the art that is only visible in Reader? I have opened in photoshop and grabbed it that way, but if there is a way to get it still as a vector, that would be better.

Dec 10, 2013If autocad is running when I unlock my computer it will freeze. It still lets me close out and save my work, but I am unable to do anything else in the program. Sometimes it will crash my video driver recover then allow me to continue working.

Aug 29, 2012Is there a way to unlock a cell using lisp. I have a datalink that is used to create a table. Once the table is selected I have a command that will format some of the cell style (which will let me while locked), but it I cannot seem to find a way to unlock them to merge a couple of cells. I can manually do it using the table toolbar, but programmably I am a little stuck. I can see if it is editable by using the vla-iscontenteditable and it will return :vlax-false. I do not see a vla-setcontenteditble or something to that effect.

Apr 1, 2013A long time ago, when I was using Photoshop Elelments I found a plug-in that made it possible to work with stacks as a unit.
If I labeled the top image in the stack that lable was applied to all the images in the stack; then I could sort the the image on top and all the images in the stack would stay together, or if I deleted an image in the stack all the images in the stack were deleted. Without it I have open each stack I lable and apply the lable, so when I sort the stacked images they stay together.

Jul 13, 2013I'm making a collage containing 4 images with different resolution. I want each image to have faded edges (to white) and I'm using gradient tool to accomplish this. The problem is that since the images have different resolution the gradient tool gives different result on each image even though I make the same "swipe". Is there another way of accomplishing these faded edges, equally looking and of the same size? The faded edges (to white) will, as you might have understood already, constitute the limit between the four pictures, that is, a white cross.

Nov 9, 2005Hi, I am starting a new business making art prints for artists. I have purchased this huge printer ... just got it. I've been studying photoshop for months using "classroom in a book" and am finding out that I've probably studied the wrong thing.
I have three questions and thanks in advance for any of your expertise.
1. I successfully printed out a two foot by two foot photo I took of my husband with my 8.2 megapixel camera. Then, tried to print out another photo.... used the same photoshop settings, but the print was 6 inches by 6 inches...... I did notice that the second print was only 16. %... I wondered if that caused the difference in size? How do I set that to 100 % if that is what is needed?
2. I want to print out multiple small prints using this big paper and printer... I want to tile these various prints (all different) along the top making rows... I want them to be all different. I called Epson support and they said I could do that in photoshop. Do I use the browser?
3. I have a wide format scanner. It does up to 11 x 17 inches. If I have something larger to scan, let's say, I scan the bottom of the image and then scan the top of the image, how do I put them together?
Lightroom :: Delete Duplicate Images And Install Images From Digital Photo Card
Mar 3, 2013Just installed Lightroom 4, more than 60000 images were imported. Many of them were duplicates, triplets and so on. I want to have a clean, unincombured library. Should I delete the 60000 images and reinstall the images from my photo digital cards or use the slow process of "X" out the unwanted images? I would like to start improving my images vs removing the unwanted images.

Dec 3, 2012I've been having problems selecting images in the library module when multiple images are in view (not down in the timeline, but in the main window). It seems sporadic with which ones it won't let me select, it somehow manages to be the ones that I need to click....!! I just literally can't click it as if it were an image I already imported or something, but it's not grayed out like that. I've been having to select a nearby image then use my arrow keys to navigate to and click the image I need.

Lightroom :: Unable To Display Preview Images During Import Of Raw Images?
Mar 25, 2011Lightroom will not display preview images during import of raw images. Any images in other formats display fine but with raw images I get a gray window the size of the preview image and the words "preview unavailable for this file".

Lightroom :: Rating Individual Images When Multiple Images Selected
Jul 18, 2012In Lightroom 4.1 when rating (flags, stars or colors) a selected group of images all images selected will have the same flag applied. For instance if I select 10 images to view in the survey mode to compare and select 1 to be flagged as rejected all 10 will be flagged rejected, not just the one. Is there a way to turn this off to select a group of images and flag each differently?
