Photoshop :: Move Image On Its Separate Layer Or Combined?
Feb 7, 2013I am using Creative Suite 5.5 on my MacBook Pro...and today had issues demonstrating the simple process of dragging one person/image onto another, applying a quick mask to do some simple morphing.
But...one, I couldn't drag the image from the internet and drop onto the project, but had to go to Edit and copy, then create a new file and hit paste. Placing one image side by side to another...I was not able to drag the image of one person to drop onto the other. I either had to use the marquee tool, drag around the image, copy and paste or...found I could drag the image from its layer in the layer's palette and drop onto the project.
More frustrating was that once I had both images in the same project, I was not able to move the new person/image added to locate in right position over the background person/image. I would drag it to that new location, and it would snap back to the original location. Obviously the need to take any image added and move it around to orchestrate your image is important.
I have asked a number of artist friends, checked the mode (both images are RGB) and both images at 8 bits...
I presume it is a simple command that will release the image to stay where located using the Move tool...but am not familiar enough with Suite 5.5 obviously.

Aug 30, 2012I'm trying to merge select layers to send my file to a publisher, but the drawing layer which is set to multiply loses its transparency when I combine layers (the original white behind the image shows). If I flatten the entire file, it works, but I can't do that in this situation.

The script unlocks layers that are lock but it does not unlock items that have been locked individually on those layers. Is there a way to unlock these items?

Photoshop :: Basic Layer
Feb 19, 2009I open an image/ Background layer. I duplicate that layer, and apply a Levels adjustment that I'm happy with.
I decide to do an "effect" layer such as sharpening, etc., but I want to be able to control the effect of the "Sharpening" Layer with the Opacity Slider, without effecting the Levels Layer below.
If I Duplicate the Levels Layer, or select Layer New-"Layer Via Copy" for the Sharpening Layer, moving the Opacity Slider, on the Sharpening Layer, will also effect the degree of Levels adjustment on the Levels Layer, as it's a Duplicate of that layer.
"New Layer", or "New Layer From Background" doesn't seem to work either?

Dec 26, 2012For years I've been using various image editors, often in combination. That is, I do simple stuff as copy / paste and repositioning of elements in one editor and subsequently open the image in a more advanced editor for proper paintwork. Currently I'm using the Gimp for the latter. Color layers work brilliantly. However, I have big problems with my alpha channel--I've found no way to edit it within Gimp and I've found no way to import a revised version that I've edited in another image editor. There must be solutions to both challenges.
The editing I require is piece-of-cake in basic image editors--I simply want to move a transparent region a bit to the left. That should be a simple rectangle selection and then shoving it (mouse or arrow keys) to where I want it. Alternatively I could import my edited alpha channel image as I'm used to doing in other editors. Well, the Gimp will accept the image as a layer all right but I haven't succeeded in making the Gimp import my grayscale image as an alpha channel. I get a grayscale non-transparent layer instead.
So, I've got a perfectly good alpha channel that needs a minor tweak. It loads as intended in Gimp. How to perform basic editing of this alpha channel layer or tell me how to import a revised version and tell Gimp that this image should be interpreted as an alpha channel?

1. Double-click the Background layer in the Layers palette.
2. In the New Layer dialog box, type a name for the layer.
3. Set the layer options as desired, and click OK. Photoshop converts the Background layer into a new, editable layer."
IT DOESN'T WORK!
Yes, I can put in a new name in the layers palette, but the darned thing stays tightly locked. Nothing else happens other than the new name. No options become available. And there's nothing I can see in the "Layers" drop down that will help.

Jun 19, 2013With CS6 i loved the addition to combine vector layers into 1 new vector layer but when i do this in PS CC and then try to enlarge it it only enlarges the first shape.
Example:
I create 3 squares, vector shapes, i cmd+E the layers to combine them, and then i want to enlarge the new shape..what happens is, only 1 square becomes larger..

Every year when we go on holiday together, I make a dvd using clips from all cameras. My question is - is it possible to combine non-HD from their cameras with my HD camera in a VS project? As this is possibly the last time we go as a family I want no disappointing discoveries when I compile the new project.

May 29, 2012I have a Mechanical drawing with numerous Xrefs. I need to make changes to the Plumbing layers which is in O-Xref layer. I have tried to bind all Xrefs but cannot bind all of them. The piping is in the O-Xref layer. I cannot explode nor can I Xref-Edit anything in this layer. This is one of a number of drawings but this is the first one that I cannot explode or edit the layer and I have never run into this problem before.
Is there a way that the file can be locked up to prevent editing?

Mar 27, 2009At a point I want to unlock all layers where the objects are selectable (layers unfrozen and turned on).
If I have the script initiate the layer command then there is the select options list and "u" is for unlock. It then wants a layer name or return to select items. Here is where the problem is when i'm in control I can just hit return to select the items and just select all, but when the script is running it skips my space for a return and goes to the next all statement and errors saying not a valid option. Is there a way to force that return to select the objects?
Illustrator :: Unlocking Linked Files With Artwork
Apr 9, 2013Occasionally I have to edit or use old pdf files that were created by my predecessors, who created the files by linking artwork placed within the file. Ordinarily that wouldn't be a problem, except that the folders containing all the linked files are long gone. When I open the files in Reader, I can zoom in on the images very closely and see that the image in very high resolution, which seems to indicate that there is vector art within the file, but when I open in Illustrator I get the message that says the artwork is no longer located at the indicated link. Is there any way to get this phantom version of the art that is only visible in Reader? I have opened in photoshop and grabbed it that way, but if there is a way to get it still as a vector, that would be better.

Oct 7, 2011I am in the middle of an upgrade from 2009 to 2012 and have a styles use question. I am running three flavors of Inventor: Inventor, Inventor Professional, Inventor Factory (based on Pro). The styles library that I am starting with was migrated from 2009 to 2012 and was running both IV series and Pro Seats. Although no real Pro functionality was ever used so any associated styles were still as delivered for the most part. My working environment is a single Vault project setup where all the styles and libraries are local copies on each workstations drive. All the standard content (styles and libraries) stay checked out to myself on my machine for protection.
So here is what I did to make an all inclusive styles library that all flavors of products will use. pick this apart if you see something wrong with the method.
1) I started with the migrated styles library from 2009
2) As I installed the different flavors I copied the new styles libraries over the existing migrated one without allowing it to "overwrite" any existing styles files. This only populated the styles libraries with any thing I was missing from any of the flavors.
3) I use this combined library on all station regardless of the flavor installed. So some stations have styles on them that are not in use by the installed software.
Lightroom :: History Deletes Itself When Lrcats Are Combined
Dec 9, 2011I have been combining several Lightroom catalalogs into one using "Import from Catalog" from the Master Cat, and the process has worked smoothly for the most part. The one problem I am running into is that changes I made in the develop module in previous libraries before they were imported into the Master Catalog show changes in the develop module, but not in history, making it impossible to go back to the original image, or to track changes made in my previous smaller libraries. I often use Lightroom while traveling so that I can organize and touch up on the go, but when I return home I want to be able to combine these photos and edit them seamlessly, and this isa giant hiccup in my workflow.

Aug 29, 2012Is there a way to unlock a cell using lisp. I have a datalink that is used to create a table. Once the table is selected I have a command that will format some of the cell style (which will let me while locked), but it I cannot seem to find a way to unlock them to merge a couple of cells. I can manually do it using the table toolbar, but programmably I am a little stuck. I can see if it is editable by using the vla-iscontenteditable and it will return :vlax-false. I do not see a vla-setcontenteditble or something to that effect.

I can run the volumes and create a comparison surface. Now what I need is to display the combined surface in such a way that you can easily see, this is the area where 0 - 0.5 feet was removed, this this the area where 0.5 -1.0 feet was removed, and so on and so forth.
