Photoshop :: Output Exact Sized Canvas In CS5?
Jun 4, 2012
I began in PS CS5 by setting up a canvas 4 x 7" and begun designing. It didn't seem right to me so I decided to print a draft of my partially finished project and discovered it is in fact HUGE. I need to output an advert for a trade magazine which needs to be exactly 4 x 7". How do I ensure the output size will be exactly as planned?

I'm using photoshop cs6 on windows 7.
Ok so my image size is about 24x20 and when I save the output of the image is almost half the size. The project has a lot of details so it looks like a big blob shrunken down to half size. I've played around with the settings for hours in save for web option and I get the same results. how to save so the output is nearly the original size, or just so you can see the details!

I am making a website on Illustrator 1,200 px 1,200 px. When i export it to .PSD i open it as a much larger file in pixels than this and with a whole Canvas/ Artbord white area which i don't need.
Is there any way to keep the page size like the final ouput without the white canvas area in the export?

I need labels of 50mmx20mm and I resize my tiff image and then paste onto an A4 page intending to copy paste until page is full.
1.Problem is if i use the ruler it shows that my image is only about 40mm wide even though the size boxes at the top clearly say it is 50mm?!!! see image
2. Is there an automatic way to fill apage with a specified sized image eg labels as the Impostion tab maxes out at 4x4(16up)?

I just got CS5.1 at my job. This must be a preference, but when I adjust the Canvas size, it will constrain the image, rather than cropping the canvas. The Anchor in the Canvas Size menu appears outlined (highlighted?) which indicates that this is something in preferences that I can adjust.

I have a design that is A3 size (i.e. 297 × 420mm) and 300dpi. I'd like to save out various versions of the image: one at full size, one at 150 dpi, one at A4 (i.e. 210 × 297mm) 150 dpi, and one at A4 72dpi. At the moment I'm doing this by saving different versions of the Photoshop PSD file and then doing a 'Save As' jpg from each of those.
What's the best way to save multiple sized versions of a design?
If I resize an image in Photoshop to be smaller and/or fewer DPI is that destructive or can I go back without loss of clarity? (I'm guessing not as the PSD file sizes are so different.)

I have recently had to begin using Clipping Paths for knockouts and silo's. I am having trouble though with moving the layer that has been knocked out and the clipping path that 'corresponds' to that layer.
What I want to know is if I can move them and size them together and still retain a clipping path? Every time I transform the layer and have the clipping path selected it only affects the clipping path. If I deselect the clipping path and transform it only affects the layer. The clipping path just stays where it is and I would have to move it independently of the layer to realign it.
Sometimes I want to re-orient the layer from vertical to diagonal on the white background but that will unalign it from the clipping path.

It might just be my coppy of Photoshop (7), but whenever I use the shape tool (round, rectangle etc) I always get a small fixed shape, and can't seem to draw the shape to the size I want. I can't do a free-transform after creating the shape, but I don't wanna do that as it alters the overall look.
Does anyone know what may be doing something wrong? Do I have to change a setting somewhere? Unlike the marquee tool, I m not able to select from a dropdown box for its constraints.

I look at my 8.5" x 11.0" document in Gimp and it looks fine.
However, when it prints it is smaller than indicated and not centered.
It has taken me a week, but I can finally cut and paste .pdf text into a .jpeg image document.

Taking a photo has been tried, but it doesn't have the quality I want.

If I print near the top margin of an A3 sized paper, only the Excel text won't appear, but everything else will.
I included a zip file with some pictures as well as a camera shot of the problem after printing.

When exporting smaller sized files (e.g. jpegs with 1000px width limitation), some of them are 1px shorter (999px in this case). It does not seem to affect files around 2000px export size, so it might be linked to the fixed export problem with output sharpening and noise reduction (URL...)

I am about to venture into creating a poster using a picture that I haven't gotten yet.
I'm wondering what I will need to do in order to get a reasonably non-pixelated poster when enlarging a picture from a smaller size.
Is the most important feature of the picture it's resolution? I know at times I've tried enlarging pictures and they are pretty pixelated after the process. I'm guessing that resolution is the key but I would love to hear from the experts that do this on a regular basis.
I know some of you have made building size signs, are these from pictures or are they from vector creations? How do you get these to be so clear when enlarging?

So a file sent to us was created in AutoCAD Map 2007 and we run AutoCAD MEP 2012 (and some on 2011). A Device ID Block was inserted in the Map program at 1:40 Annotative scale and was fine in their software, but when we load the files the attributes are enlarged to 40x their intended size. There are over 1,000 of these block in the plans and I've run out of solutions. I tried overwriting the block and it failed, and I also tried copying the oversized blocks into a file with the block predefined and that failed as well. At this point I am convinced I need to find or write a lisp for the repeated actions. I am crunching on the process for writing the lisp as I have written macros and VBA Functions for excel and understand the basic principles.

I frequently create labels that follow the same format: white text on a 75% opaque black background, with 10px of margin around the text. Currently, I have to manually build these labels, which takes a lot of work. In one method, I write the text, figure out its height and width, then create a separate rectangle and place it behind it. This takes a lot of clicking around for every label.
In the other method, I draw out a text box, select it directly, give it the correct background and margins, and then insert the text. However, I must then resize the box manually, meaning more clicking around and greater imprecision. There doesn't seem to be a way to directly select a text box once it has text inside it.
I tried using the script contained in a related answer to resize the text box to the content, but it only resizes the box vertically, and removes my color and margins.
I'm using CS3.

One of the things I need to do occasionally is print an uncommon sized image. For example, I may crop part of an image as a 2x3 to fit in an odd picture frame, such as a Chrstimas ornament. However, most places I print (e.g. CVS) only print common sizes. In the past I've used Elements to create a blank new image in a common size and pasted my crop into it (which is a little tricky because you have to make sure the new image and the crop have the same resolution), but I'd like to be able to do this directly in Lightroom.

I have a single long interview that I'm trying to break down into smaller, bite-sized sublicps. I'm naming each subclip based on a few keywords from the interview. I noticed, however, that, after setting a subclip, if I have to adjust spelling or change the name in the project panel, EVERY subclip from the same master clip changes to match the newly renamed clip. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? If not, using subclips to break down long master clips is pretty useless as it prevents me from ever changing the names of single subclips. I've tried checking and un-checking the "restrict trims to subclip boundries" but the result is the same.

I want to use VSx4 to create a custom sized .swf, flash file for a website. I plan to use a free program called Any Video Converter to covert my final VSx4 creation to the .swf as I hope that future versions of VS will have .swf output.
I'll be creating the video using stills with transitions in between.
Now I haven't tried this yet but...
I know how to change the project properties to custom frame sizes which is fine but what should I aim to be creating? I was thinking of an MP4 (H264) file but just wondering if you have other thoughts on what I should create as a video file before converting to .swf
The stills will be j-pegs. No audio will be involved

I received a drawing from another consultant that uses C3D 2013. When I open the drawing in C3D 2012 I get the message that it was created in a newer version of C3D so I assume he did a save as to 2010.
When I get drawings like this I copy what I need to the clipboard and paste into a new drawing (acad.dwt). This usually works fine. But in this case the drawing is almost 4 MB and contains just one arc. I purged everything I can from the drawing and it is still 3 MB.
I looked for but could not find any of the usual suspects: drawing scales, regapps, empty text objects and wipeouts. When I list "all" there is one arc in model space and 4 view ports in paper space. I did notice that there are hundreds of linetypes and text styles that cannot be purged.
I tried export to AutoCAD DWG 2010, 2007, 2004 and 2000 but that didn't work. Export to AutoCAD DWG R14 and DXF R12 both caused C3D to become unresponsive. Saveas to DWG R14 and DXF R12 caused C3D to become unresponsive.

I need to make a 1/8" diameter flexible hose, but the sizes listed for the Parker Hydraulic Hose only go down to 1/4". The closest solution I could find is here:
[URL]........
Here is what I did:
In my assembly, click "Place From Content Center"
Find "Parker Hydraulic Hose"
When I right click on it, the only selection is "Add to Favorites"
Double click on "Parker Hydraulic Hose"
Go to "Table View" tab
Right click on a row, but there is no "Input" selection.

Why did my cursor turn into a zoom tool with a photo sized to Fit; and how can I make it go back to a normal arrow?
It is only happening when the photo is sized to Fit. At other sizes, the cursor is normal.
This just started after I finished using the Adjustment Brush. I had used Cntrl + to zoom a photo while using the Adjustment Brush.
