I need to redo raw editing of a file that I've invested a lot of time with, creating layer masks. Is it possible to save these layer masks and move them to a new .psd file of the same image; same size? (I'm using Ps Cs5, on Windows XP.) .

Every tutorial has a different way of creating a mask but I can't figure out how to do it when the mask is a layer within an existing file. There's no option to save the mask to disk so I can load it into a new raster image to merge it with the image.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a document that i had made a long time ago, i have updated it and changed the scale and moved different images and deleted layers and so on, this is all fine in photoshop, see below image:
But when i move the file across into image ready, somehow image ready remembers the previous state of the image and brings in the old rollovers and old layers that correspond with those rollovers, see below image:
My question is, without having to spend ages in image ready tidying up the position of layers and deleting images, and basically doing all of the things i originally did qwith the image, how do i get image ready to open my photoshop document as i have it in photoshop, bear in mind i have deleted all of the slices in the document.
I am having trouble with using my layer masks. I can use the masks that are hidden (shown with black screen) and apply them with the white brush, but I cant get white or shown masks to be taken off with the black brush. Sometimes, not always I have trouble adjusting the opacity of white masks. I was playing around with actions I downloaded and after applying three actions to a photo, elements froze on me. I read about trashing preferences, I dont know what that does or means but I tried to hit cntrol alt shift when photoshop was opening and nothing happened. When it first opens it shows I can install the new inspiration browser ( i dont know what that is either) thinking it was a required update I tried to update and it gave me an error message, something about the installer has been mis-configured.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to create an image that will be composed of lots of layer masks that I am going to use to paint different effects back over someone's face. I currently have a hue/saturation adjustment layer that I used to de saturate the image and then I selectively painted that desaturated layer back over the skin of someone, I also want to add some green so I created a color balance layer and made a layer mask out of it and want to selectively paint back some green to the skin tone.
1. Does it matter in the layer stacking order where these adjustment layers/layer masks reside?
2. Any general tips for working with an image with lots of adjustment layers/layer masks?
I am using ACAD 2005 and am trying to copy&paste several objects from a layer I created in one .dxf file to one of the 2 standard layers (0 or Defpoints) in a new blank .dxf file.
My problem though is that if I copy and paste all of the objects (or even one of them) and them move to the new file and paste, it pastes the objects, but also "imports" into the new file the original file's layer that these objects were on.
For clarity, the new file only has the 2 standard layers and then after copy/pasting an object, the file manager shows the 3rd layer from the original file.
When I insert one layer from one image file to another file I find it difficult to align it. I ensure that both layers are the same DPI and the same pixel dimension. But when I drag one layer on the other file it is hard to align it so that it exactly lays on top/underneath the other. And even when I ensure thet layer is the same size it doesn't always seem to align size wise with the existing layer. This is the one area that I am struggling wtih on Elements and I want to use this a fair amount. I had Elements 11 and have just upgraded to Elements 12. Haven't seen a tutorial video on this, but maybe I missed it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor printing or mailing purpose, i used to re-open big .psb layer files (2-6GB) in cs5 and cs6 with keybombo "alt" and "shift" while double clicking the document in the finder window (10.6 + 10.7.5), in order to save time.
This is not possible anymore, everytime i open a document this way its white and empty in photoshop.
I have an open file - we'll call it the 1st file. I will add a background and some other images to it that are located in other psd files. But how? How do I get them in there?
I want to add 2 images, (don't worry about getting into selection and pixels, shadows, edges, etc. the complex stuff is easy LOL) Anyhow, I have another file that I open. How do I get that entire image(or file) into the 1st file - into it's own layer - so I can edit, position, and transform it etc. as I need.

What if there's a 3rd image/file that I want to open and add to yet another layer.
Do I simply select the entire image and copy/paste it? I tried dragging it, knowing that would probably be futile. Anyhow, any and ALL advice on this surely simple procedure would be appreciated.
There are some files with at least 8 files that I want to bring together into one image. Same thing, do I cut and paste them, or is there another way?
All of these are psd files, btw. Would it make a difference if one was different, say a jpeg or tiff etc.
When I load an image either a jpeg or psd file then make a layer copy I am unable to apply a preset action to this. Either a default action or one of my own on a Mac OSX running Lion. This did not present a problem in CS5 and I am wondering if I've missed something basic?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm using a clipping mask on a layer. The base layer that the clipping mask is referencing has a layer effect applied (in this case an inner shadow). I want to make it so the layer effect is only applied to the base layer and NOT the clipped layers.
Below is an example of what I'm talking about. as you can see, layer 1 has the base layer's inner shadow applied to it. I want the inner shadow to be hidden by Layer 1, but the clipping mask to still apply.
Our company does not have the funds to upgrade so we are stuck with CD12. I am using using a windows 7 /64 bit machine. I created this xml template for the writers to place place their graphics in our author software.
I have 4 layers on my file - grid.guide,desktop and template. The template has the instructions and size dimensions. I have them put all graphics on the high lited desktop layer then when this is complete turn off the template layer. One can print this file with just the graphics showing with no problem.
However if I export this a PNG file both the template and desktop layers show up even though I turned off all layers. I just want the desktop layer with the graphics to show up. I have been using Adobe Illustrator for several years and this doesn't present a problem when saving the graphic as a PNG file.

We got several image files every 2 weeks which should be edited and mainly reduced in size for web purpose. This work needs 1 work day for one man/woman to do, because he/she has to open the file save for web and then set the quality to a value were the file is nearly about 150-200 KB in size.
The images are different, some have few colors, some have a lot of colors and there are also different in resolution. But they should not be reduced in resolution, only in quality. All other specs of the image should be kept
Is there any possible script, plug-in or similar which can do the same (Saving with a specific max. file size) in some automatic and faster way?
A student of mine asked why you would create multiple layer masks on a single layer.

I xref file A into file B, and ALL layers in file A's xrefs are turned on, and I have to go into layer manager and turn off all unwantd layers. Is there any way to make it so that the layer state in file A is kept, when xreffing it into file B?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to select part of an image with just one layer. Say I just flattened the image and have to move one part of. I select it with the rectangular select tool. It seems intuitive that I could then just move what I selected, but when I drag the selection, the selection itself moves without moving what is inside the selection.
If I then remember to click the move tool and try to move what's in the selection (seems to work sometimes, maybe when there's multiple layers?) the entire image moves.
The only way I can move part of the image over is if I make a selection and then cut it (ctrl X) then paste it.
How am I supposed to move part of the flattened image, is there a way I can set it to default to "When I select something, I can immediately drag that selected area around."
My goal is to batch plots using VB in Visual Studio 2008, Autocad Map 3D 2010, Win 7 Pro 64. It all works but now I want to apply layerstates.

My questions:
1. If you use Option Strict, how do you convert from integer to "layerstatesmasks.color"? VS shows the error "Option Strict On disallows implicit conversions from 'Integer' to 'Autodesk.AutoCAD.DatabaseServices.LayerStateMasks'." I can't figure out the conversion. Are the values documented somewhere? "clientmask" is not in the object browser or the dev. guide.
2. If you aren't sure what is masked, do you turn on all of the options on (on, color, linetype, lineweight, etc.)? Is there a sum of values that means "layerstatemasks.all"?
3. LAS files are DXF format. Do I have to read the LAS to detemine what the user wants?
4. The second argument to .restorelayerstate is the viewport id. The examples use objectid.null. I could have several layouts to plot, and maybe several viewports. Is the process a) Make the layout current, b) activate each viewport, c) set model space current, and d) restore the layerstate?
I want to attach image in Autocad 2010, i know the procedure to insert the image (.jpg,etc.). But my problem is that i dont want to send its original image that i used from my hard disk.
Is there any way to send drawing without sending its image file or wothout doing etransmit the file.
We have a couple parts that are linked to a jpg file, through Inventor studio. They were set as a reflection image, from what I can tell. However they are now perminantly linked to the part and anything we copy from it. I eliminated the reflection from Inventor studio, but Vault still thinks the link is there. If we delete the jpg files it causes unresolved references and as we all know Inventor will then refuse to work until they are resolved.
Any way to get rid of this link? We can make a new jpg, and resolve it, but not delete it.
I'm using Illustrator 5.0 with MAC OS 10.8.4 and the Illustrator file icons are different than the actual file image. It's using the same image for 5 different files. THey all started out the same, but I edited them and then did a save as, but the file icon image didn't update. How can I fix this? I tried resaving the files and copying the files, but it didn't work.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'd like to batch crop all while moving the cropped section with each file. This is for time lapse, so it will consist of about 500 files. I'm hoping it will give the effect of panning. I can do this in vegas but I have to zoom and pan AFTER the file is made. The zoom reduces the quality bad. My thinking is that if I can do this with picture files prior to making the video, the quality will be much better.
