Photoshop :: Is It Worth The Upgrade From Elements 6 To 7?
Feb 20, 2009
I currently have Elements 6 and I have been using It for a couple of years now...I'm still not too Good at It,But I get by . I see that there's a Elements 7 out now...and I would like to Know If It worth the switch over.
I have huge files that are painfully slow to work with -ie 15,000 by 10,000 pixels, 1 - 1.5GB in size. I have the 32bit version of Vista, 4gb ram.
If I upgraded to 8gb ram, would it really be worth it? I know the faq says that PS can somehow utilize this extra ram, but would PS be "as snappy" as when it has enough ram in the first place? If actions that take 15 minutes with these files would only take as long as the ones with my 600MB files, then I would do probably it. Do u think this would this be a major performance upgrade or just a tiny one?
Firstly is it even worth disabling things like Studio/Frame generator/content center in the Add-in manager if I never use them? I was hoping to at least reduce initial load time for inventor.
Secondly, do i need Win7 admin permission to do it? When I uncheck 'Load on Startup' settings in the Add-In Manager they just re-check themselves.
I have Elements 5, Premier 3, LR 2, and Photoshop CS3.
I am considering upgrading either to Elements 7 or CS4. In looking at the features of Elements 7, it appears to have just about anything a amateur photographer would need and be a little less complicated than CS4. Am I overlooking something that would suggest that CS4 would be a "better" choice than Elements 7?
In Elements 2.0, the selection tool literally only selects what you want it to (like a brush). In CS6, I can't find a similar selection tool. Quick select always makes the selection too broad and I end up having to constantly add and subtract from it to little avail. I know there's more advanced ways to define the selection, but I want to know how to easily select only what's in my brush path.Â
I have upgraded from Win XP to 8.1 by buying a new machine. I have a valid copy of elements 11 on DVD. This was upgraded from elements 8 which was downloaded and those files have been lost. Windows 8.1 will not read the DVD. Â How can I get PSE11 onto the new machine?
I was using elements 8 and just purchased elements 10. the system asked if I wanted to import files / tags etc over to 10 which I said yes. It downloaded to 49%then stopped. How do I get all my photos (arouond 20 thousand) over to the upgrade. I cannot find how to go back and restart.
I have trial versions of both Photoshop Elements 12 and Lightroom 5.2 (trial licenses are both still active (i.e. not expired)). I'm looking to import my PSE12 catalog into Lightroom before I plunk down the money to buy it. Â I cannot, however, locate the "File->Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog" option in LR5. Â I may have originally installed LR 5 before installing PSE 12. So I uninstalled LR5 and reinstalled it. Still no luck - the option isn't there. Any other ways to force LR5 to look for the PSE 12 catalog? Will LR5 even recognize a PSE12 catalog?
Can I upgrade my PSE 5.0 Catalog directly to version 12.0 without loss of data (i.e. using backup-move-restore method)? the transition to 6.0 and also to 9.0 resulted in a different data format in the catalog file.
I'd like to upgrade from Elements to Lightroom. I'm currently using Elements version 11 for Mac.  With my free trial download of Lightroom, I've attempted multiple times to upgrade my Elements catalog, but it will only recognize about 1100 of my 45000 photos. If I cannot import the catalog I will not be able to switch to Lightroom.
nstall of CS2 on my Win7 64bit machine and in the process I find that CS2 is no longer supported, (no big surprise,) and CS2 may have issues with 64bit.  I only really use Photoshop, so I'm thinking maybe I should look at why I should or shouldn't upgrade. (Amazon has the upgrade @ $153.xx USD or something like that at the moment.)  I do original art, inputting drawings and manipulating them in Photoshop, as well as working with digi photos. Worth the upgrade? What's new that I should be aware of?Â
I have CS3 and ultimately want to upgrade. In the short term, I need to deactivate the computers that previously had CS3 on them. I don't even have the computers anymore. I will then just reload my existing copy of CS3, get it re-established and move on from there. What is the simple way to do this?Â
I have a Photoshop CS3 license that I have not used in a while. Now I'm finding out that I may have neglected it too long, what with this "cloud" bidness. Can I upgrade this license to CS6? If so, where and how? Or am I stuck with buying the full install?
Upgrading to ACR 7.4 via help>upgrades in PS CS6 does not work. I get message the everything is up to date, but when I check the version of ACR, it still shows 7.3
I have Photoshop CS5 and want to upgrade to CS6. However, I don't want the Creative Cloud version. (I don't want to have to pay a monthly or annual fee!) I want to pay the one-time "lifetime" license fee. Where do I go to do this? How much will it cost? Or is this no longer an option?
I use both Illustrator CS4 and Photoshop CS4 for my occasional, personal use. I am running OSX 10.5.8. (Yes, I know both are ancient). I have just purchased a new Mac running 10.9. I would like to put both my ai and ps CS4 on my new machine.
Note: I am willing to purchase new software and/or upgrades, however I am not willing to purchase cloud-based software at a monthly charge. Again, what are my options for installing ai and ps on my new machine?
I have just purchased the latest Photoshop Cs6 but I wasn't aware that there was another program. Photoshop elements that also included 3D. I have tried to upgrade to the 3D package but the trial download for elements is the same as the Photoshop CS6 version I already have so I can't get it to work.
I have adobe Photoshop cs5 and want to upgrade to cs6. I do not want to move to your cloud services, so how do I go about upgrading? I wouldn't think I should have to pay for CS6; usually upgrades have some sort of discount.
to replace my old version of PS but Adobe doesn't offer an upgrade discount and I couldn't find any version requirements anywhere on their site, so I don't know if the CS4 upgrade will even work with my old 7.0,
I currently have the photoshop elements 6/premiere elements 4 bundle and am thinking about upgrading to CS3. Issue is that I quite like integrated organiser/editor in PE6 and that Premiere elements is able to view and pull out photos from the PE6 organiser.
Am I right in thinking that if I upgrade to CS3, it will not be integrated into the organiser any longer?
Does that mean I would have to get lightroom as well? And presumably that still won't talk to Premiere elements?
e I've considered upgrading Photoshop on my computer (I like what I have, and hadn't really felt the need or desire to upgrade), and since that time, a lot has changed. Because of my lack of desire to keep track of the latest changes, I find myself extremely confused now that I am actually looking to upgrade, which is the reason for posting this. The general idea is that I'm currently using Photoshop 7, and when last I peeked in on Photoshop, that was as straight-forward as it needed to be. 7.0 was Photoshop, that's it. Now what's confusing me is what would be the best version to upgrade to? The obvious questions to follow -- what do I need it for? Varied. I do some web design, I do some photo touchups, and I do other aspects, such as getting ready to start production on an ezine (this is the primary reason I'm considering an upgrade, as I don't feel Photoshop 7 provides everything that I need to do that), for which I'd like to design a simple spread. What gets me is what all these new variations of Photoshop actually are, and what route should I be looking to go so that it's still the Photoshop I know and love, but upgraded and with the various improvements and such? I realise that might sound vague, but essentially I don't want to have to learn a whole new product just to enjoy the features that I already enjoy and know how to utilize,
I am trying to re-install an upgrade from Photoshop 5.0 to CS2 after hard disk failure. I called Adobe Customer Service who tried to help by having me rename the instmsia file in CS2 but it didn't work and they referred me here. Does anyone remember how to make the upgrade install? When I put in the cd for CS2 it says that you need Photoshop 5.5 in order to install CS2. I know there is some extra step you have to go through to go from 5.0 to CS2 because I went through it 3 years ago when I first installed CS2.
I purchased a sealed legal version of Photoshop CS3. A few months later I purchased a sealed legal upgrade to CS4. Today I installed CS3 on the new computer, smooth installation and activation. Upon opening the application, I found I had somehow purchased CS3 Extended, which I don't even want. I then tried to install the upgrade to CS4 (not extended) and the serial number for CS3 was not recognized. I know there is some issue with the upgrading to a normal version from an extended one. How to procede? I searched the knowledge base but it only says that you can upgrade in this way if contact the Adobe Store (if purchasing from Adobe), I did not purchase these from Adobe.
