I don't use Photoshop for extensive stuff, I like to make graphics for Glitter-Graphics for fun. I can't find out how to make an image smaller. When I go to the top and click on layer and try to make it smaller, it disappears althogther. How does the crop tool work? Also after I hve one picture open, if I open another the first disappears, why?

The file size is somewhere around 130 kb, and it takes a while for it to load up for a website. Yes I've used Imageready, and that doesn't help a whole lot. I just want it to load up quicker, without losing a lot of quality. The website is for the Air Force, I'm joining as a pilot and am making a site documenting my growing up in an air force family, and my going in the Air Force myself.

The case is, i got a pdf file and then i am using illustrator to edit it and then save as pdf.
After that, i found that the pdf file size is quiet large. Someone know how to make the file become smaller but not using those compress software such as winzip and etc.
I am currently working on making a map out of a satellite image. I am stuck trying to figure out how to get text to be small enough to be legible. I have cropped and resized the original image, It is 137x224 @ 72ppi. I want the text smaller, I think I cant get enough definition because the pixels are huge, text size 7 and under becomes like 6 squares per letter and there is no definition.
The same effect is keeping me from getting well defined and sharp lines. I try to stroke a path and the line looks like a row of squares instead of a line.
Very often when I press cmd touch in Photoshop CS6 my image comes smaller until to be a little point on my screen? this time with InDesign when an object selected and I touch the arrow keys to move the object, often it is my document that moves up or down!

I notice that the dimensions are written like 12' - 10 3/4", with a space between the ' and the - and a space between the - and the 10, rather than 12'-10 3/4", like an old-fashioned person like me would write. Is there a way to control that? I looked into the dimension edit dialog box & couldn't see a way. AutoCAD writes them like I like.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've downloaded a DEM and made a surface from it creating a HUGE file. I only need about an eighth of that area. How can I crop the surface to be a smaller area? I realize I can create a boundary, but I really don't need all the data outside the boundary.... I want a smaller file so it doesn't have to create one of those *.mms files.
Surely I don't have to export the boundaried area as triangles to a regular ACAD file, then make a surface from those triangles... do I? Not that it's that big of a hassle, but seems like a roundabout way of doing things.
I'm making a swatchbook (Pantone ® style), with a large 100% swatch and three smaller ones (5%,25% and 50% ink.). Right now I've got a 7x7 grid with all the swatches as I want (see screenshot), however the other 26 other pages only have the 100% swatch. Is there an 'automated' way I can make the smaller swatches in the 3 different percentages?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have designed an album cover using some jpeg elements as well as vector based text and background color. I set the project resolution as 300 ppi. The size is 2.0 inch x 2.0 inch. So when i save that as a jpeg i get a file size of around 250 kb. I was hoping to get this file size down to around 100 kb or so for web use, without loosing the sharpness of detail.
I have tried the following : Image size: I change ppi resolution to 72. The picture than gets way too small to be able to post on a website. Is it possible to lower the file resolution for webuse without changing the file size?
How can one make a survey file smaller? The current file is 11 mb with survey figures and cogo points. It takes too long to load versus simple cad. How can I speed it up?
When I exported to autocad, first it crashed, then the annotation ability seemed to be missing and the points scaled/disappearred.
Or is this how it is...

I am making an image smaller (from 1200 pixels wide to 700), and no matter what I try it always turns out pixelated. I hate it! I just want the size of the image to get smaller without compromising the quality of said image. Here's what I've tried:
- Saving to different formats before resizing (TIF, PNG, etc)
- Changing the X and Y resolution from 150, to 300, even 900 before resizing. It seems to have no effect.
- Changing the interpolation from cubic to the others (the others ones all look worse)
I am at a loss! I am using "image/scale image" to resize, by the way. And the original image was a 1200-wide TIF. I don't see why I'm not able to increase the number of pixels while making the image smaller to maintain the integrity of the original image.
This is what happens when I resize from large to small (in this case 600px to 60px).

I did some editing to some MPEG-4 video files and when I was finished I found out that the file sizes of each video blew up to huge numbers. During the editing I did add some transitions and .MPEG photo images. I didn't think that the video size would grow to that amount. I really would like to keep the MPEG-4 format for the convenience to the viewer. I just need to have it in the smallest file size possible. how I can get my "MP4 H264 - MPEG-4 AVC Resolution 640x480" videos to an acceptable file size?

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor a project I am working on, I would be like to be able to slice a photograph up into a number of smaller segments. I can explain what I want to do best in terms of what this would look like if I were working with a physical print.
Let's say the print is 8 X 10 inches. I'd like to take that print and cut it up into 16 half inch strips along the 8 inch side, and then cut those horizontally into 20 half inch little squares. It would sort of resemble a jigsaw puzzle but of course all the side would be straight. Is there a convenient way to do this in Photoshop? I'd want to be able to remove these and rearrange them in PS or perhaps paste each segment into inDesign or Quark.
I have a png image, of 256x128 size. It has 8bits per pixel for color. Now this image's size is 97kB. I open it in photoshop, I save it as different png file, and then... this image is 7kB of size.

However, when I do, all lines turn olive green and I loose the original layer structure (in the section, that is, not the original x-ref).
Is there a way to make these sections and keep the original layers in the sections? I'd rather not use xclip.
How to make the dimension get bigger and smaller as we “scale” the drawing?
For example, the drawing in the screenshot below is scaled by 0.5 but that didn’t affect the “size” of the dimension (height of the text, extension lines, …).

i have a client who needs a big image (2000x2830) resizing to 595x842 and saving to a .pdf file and still keeping its high quality resolution even when its zoomed in on.
So far i have resized the image (just using IMAGE-IMAGE SIZE and put in the numbers 595x842) but it has lost its quality when zoomed in although it does look good at 100% but i need it to look good even at 500-600%.
I want to resize an image without loosing picture quality but I'm not making it larger - I'm making it smaller. For example, there are small stars in the background which seem get deleted when I resize it.
But here's the thing - After resizing it (but before "confirming" my changes), it looks perfect. Then I hit enter and then it deletes certain details. Basically I can look at the image at the size and quality I want in PS but I can't save it that way. And it's not a matter of saving it with a higher quality level, it happens as soon as I resize. WTF?
I sized the canvas to 8.5 and 11. I layed the pic out and used 24pt type, but when I printed it, it came out tiny and looked like 1pt type.

(A photo that i have worked on and has lots of detail) I drag this image onto a canvas size of 150mm x150mm - and the image loses all of its sharpness. It is not apparent until i zoom in to see the detail. (PSE10) I'm sure that there is a box somewhere to tick..........but i cannot find it.
when i drag it over, it is still the large size, so i grab the grips/handles and shrink to fit, then it pixelates?
