Photoshop :: Smaller Image Size Loses Sharpness?
Aug 19, 2013I have a large image at 72 ppi. When I reduce the size (pixel count) leaving the resolution at 72 ppi, the smaller image loses sharpness. Why is this happening?

Jan 3, 2014I have a background that has 8.5" x 11" external dimensions. In the project bin, I'm also showing a layer (with transparent edges) that I've resized to 1" x 1.5". When I double-click the background to put it on the screen, and then drag the layer onto the screen, why doesn't it look like a small picture on top of a big one? Instead, it's huge, and I have to drag it down to size with the move tool!
And now, the entire story:
Running PSE9 under Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
My project is a montage of stamp-sized images on a letter-size background, as in the attached -- commemorating the woman in the centerpiece. I've stumbled though this kind of effort before with great success. This time the small photos are coming out blurry, and it's because this time I've done one thing differently.
In prior efforts, I recall somehow reducing the outside dimensions of an open file to about 2" x 3" before editing and finally adding it as a layer to the big background (using Move Tool to size it to fit), although during editing I was working with a reasonably-sized image and not a stamp (probably using command +). The images in the final version were all sharp. On this effort, however, cannot remember how to do it the same way, and I ended up working with the original photo, and then when I added it as a layer, I reduced it using the move tool -- very clumsy in view of the fact that the edited layer's image seemed to be larger than the canvas I was building, and the final images were blurry.

Mar 11, 2012I have a png image, of 256x128 size. It has 8bits per pixel for color. Now this image's size is 97kB. I open it in photoshop, I save it as different png file, and then... this image is 7kB of size.

Sep 26, 2006i have a client who needs a big image (2000x2830) resizing to 595x842 and saving to a .pdf file and still keeping its high quality resolution even when its zoomed in on.
So far i have resized the image (just using IMAGE-IMAGE SIZE and put in the numbers 595x842) but it has lost its quality when zoomed in although it does look good at 100% but i need it to look good even at 500-600%.
Lightroom :: 4 - Image Size Smaller On Export
Feb 2, 2013I imported images from my 1D M4 and made themDNG rather than RAW. All the images, JPOG and DNG have a heading in image info at top of the image in Library or Develop as 4.0MP indicating that the information is very small. Canon tells me this camera should show MP as 16-18MP and large prints available. The smmaller bird will not crop to make an image over 4x4 and I pring 8x10. Canon believes it is a LR4 preference issue but I can't locate it in importing. I did note a export image smaller and changed it but regardless, I checked the importing file size and tey are all significant so it is a Adobe LR4 issue and preference somewhere. NAPP says it is not LR4 so I am caught?

Jul 5, 2013hat is the best way to resize (reduction) an image and maintain the image sharpness. The image I have is a high resolution 500 x 500 pixel logo with a text which I have the Adobe Illustrator (AI) vector file.
I need to resize the image to as small as 130 x 40 pixels and export to gif.
I have tried the following methods:Photoshop Resize > Resample Image > Bicubic Sharper (best for reduction)Create a 130 x 40 pixel Photoshop file and copied object from AI to Photoshop as a smart object and export as gifCreate a 130 x 40 pixel AI file and export to gif . However, I tried to view the image from my mobile phone (iPhone), it is not sharp even though I have created from the vector ai file.
I research on the internet and find out that I can actually create a double size image and use CSS to control (divided dimension by 2) so that the sharpness can be maintained. However, I do not have control of the site html/css hence I can't use the method.
Any other way to resize (reduction) an image and maintain the sharpness.
3ds Max :: Image Sharpness In 1080 25P Area?
Jun 10, 2013Normally i do camera work and edit in Pre, Ae with all the trimmings. I recently got into 3d work with the plugin that video copilot provides and now that my colleague is on holiday i'd figure i'd play around with his 3dmax and plugins. So i made an explosion in FumeFX and in itself it works fine but the "Kaboom" needs to move towards the viewers at home. This works but the smoke loses its sharpness as it progresses towards the camera.
What do i need to do here? In AE i can adjust the DOF of the camera layer and also the aperture. i'm not finding this in 3dsmax. I have positioned the camera within the area of the explosion and it should be inside the bounding box but i'm not sure. I used the standard track camera with the little target box. Didnt change a thing to the default settings.

I'm gonne try and cheat by exporting it twice as big as normal HD and the scaling it down.

Photoshop :: Flatten Image Loses Contrast
Apr 18, 2012I'm using a Windows 7 icore7 machine. The file I'm working on is composed of six layers: 1) a masked Levels layer; 2) a masked Noise layer; 3) a masked Hipass layer; 4) a convert to BW layer; 5) a copy of the background layer; 6) the background layer. All the eyes on the layers are ON.
When I Flatten Image the contrasty look I've created with the Levels adjustment layer AND with the Hipass layer disappears and the flattened image no longer exhibits those qualities - in other words it reverts back to being soft, low contrast.
All the eyes are ON.
I tried various combinations of MERGE VISIBLE and the same thing happens.I swapped Hipass for Unsharp Mask and for Smart Sharpen and even more weirdness happens - These filters have no effect at all.

Oct 30, 2007I have saved several hundred images from a jpg format to jpg for web, (optimized), but it loses it brilliancy to colors. I am using the Sharpen filter and Shadow/Highlight to edit the image. But it loses that little bit of edge once it goes to save for web.

Photoshop :: CMYK File Size Smaller Then RGB... Why?
Mar 4, 2009I have been receiving some very simple files from a colleague and her file sizes are a 10th of what mine are. The confusing part is she is sending them in CMYK and I convert them to RGB.
Theoretically they should be smaller. Dimensions and resolution are exactly the same and both are 8 bits per channel and no color profiles. She might be using an older version of Photoshop than me (currently CS3). Anyone have any ideas?

May 23, 2003I'm trying to make this picture's file size smaller. It's the startup page for my website that I'm making. The file size is somewhere around 130 kb, and it takes a while for it to load up for a website. Yes I've used Imageready, and that doesn't help a whole lot. I just want it to load up quicker, without losing a lot of quality. The website is for the Air Force, I'm joining as a pilot and am making a site documenting my growing up in an air force family, and my going in the Air Force myself.

Nov 9, 2013I have changed Canvas size a thousand times in my life and this has never happened before.
I have an image that is 1600 px wide and I want to trim the sides to 1260. When I start to even type in the smaller size, the file size indicated is larger (that was my first suspicion that something was not right). And sure enough, it is making the image larger?
GIMP :: Image Loses Transparency
Nov 22, 2011*) Open the image "Ok.png" - you'll see there's a small green triangle on the right.
*) Mark and delete a bit of the triangle.
*) Save the image (I checked the 3rd (gamma), the 5th (resolution) and the 6th (time) checkbox).
When I now open the saved image in a different viewer (I use the picasa viewer because this viewer shows the transparent areas nicely), the image is still transparent.
*) Delete the rest of the small green triangle on the right.
*) Save the image.
When you now open it in a different viewer, then suddenly the background isn't transparent anymore. (It's then like the 2nd attached pic - Fail.png)

Similarly at 150 pixels/inch, X3 allows 218", while X4 allows approximately 67".
