Photoshop :: How To Crop To Multi Rectangular Shape
Nov 28, 2012
I like to crop a scan of newspaper article to a multi edge shape (or a big rectangular on the left next to a small one right bottom). Or I want to get ride of the left upper rectangular. How do I do that in CS6?

I just installed CD on my daughter's computer and her shape tool only allows for a free form selection by following the cursor in a free form way. My install allows for a rectangular click-and-drag type of selection. I see no options for this tool Is her install bad?

Using Photoshop CS v8.0 on XP Home....
Whenever I try to use the Rectangular Marquee or Crop tools, they're stuck in a portrait style (looks like the aspect ratio of a regular sheet of paper). I can't make a square or a landscape-type rectangle. Furthermore, on the crop tool I'm not getting the handles where I can adjust the size of the crop box. When I try to make the shape bigger the top and bottom edges go completely off the canvas. This problem has happened a couple of times and usually corrects itself when I reboot, but this time it hasn't. I've probably got a setting wrong somewhere.

I'm trying to use the rect marquee tool to do a selection and then crop a photo but when I do nothing happens.
A couple of strange things have/are happening:
-At one point, while I was in transform selection I there was added space around the marquee, which became the new edge, as opposed to the marquee itself.
-The marquee is in the shape of a rounded rectangle.

We are trying to take advantage of non-rectangular crop regions and running into an issue. We are placing (2) views with non-rectangular crop regions on a sheet, one view shows existing geometry in a linked model and the other view shows new geometry in the model the sheet resides in. As a side note, we are doing this to create simplified diagrammatic phasing plans, the merits of which should be another topic. What seems to be happening, is the graphics within the rectangular boundary of the view, but outside of the crop region is masking the other view. The graphics appear correct in the print preview and on a print. Please see images for a clearer understanding.I have tried turning off hardware acceleration and anti-aliasing with no change.

I'm looking for a way to automate/simplify the following task:
1. We have high-resolution photos of the HDTV section of brick and mortar TV stores with dozens of TVs on display. (imagine walking in to Best Buy and taking photos of the HDTV area). Each of the TV screens (the actual video content) has a perfect alpha channel mask in Photoshop.
2. We have another layer with our new content for the TV screens.
3. We need to manipulate the new content to fit perfectly within the perfect masks of the TV screens.
4. Since it's always simulated still video content for HDTV screens, everything is always rectangular, so we don't need something to transform to organic shapes. Simply shapes with four straight sides.
Currently, we are using the Edit/Transform tools to do this. The problem is that it takes a very long time and isn't always perfect. Is there any way to automate this within Photoshop? If there is a plugin or add-on for Photoshop that will solve it, we'll be happy to purchase it.

and probably more, but when you consider how little functionality the loss of those three buttons give me, you can understand how little use I am getting out of CS6 so far.It makes no difference whether I use 32-bit or 64-bit.
I am using Windows 7 Home Premium on a relatively new Toshiba Satellite C660-1LD with 2.53 gigahertz Intel Core i3 M 380 with 3892 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory* with onboard Intel(R) HD Graphics.(Processor & Memory details from Belarc Advisor)
I sometimes get a message on load saying that Photoshop cannot find my 3D settings (although my Graphics card has 3D capability), but as I'm not using Photoshop's 3D editing tools, this is no issue to me at present.

I am modeling a (simplified) human brain. I have used paint effects to draw its surface and afterwards I converted them to polygons ( Actually I used this tutorial URL.... ). Is there a possible way to convert these tube - like polygons to rectungular shapes? I want in a future step to make an animation where the brains topology transforms to walls and corridors.

I do not understand how to draw a polar array around a rectangular shape. If it were a rectagular dining table of any size how do I array the dining chairs around the table's shape. Alternatively what if I had a large square table and wanted to array 12 chairs with 3 chairs on on each side of the table ????? I get polar arrays around a circle or polygon but do not understand the rectangle concept ???

I was wondering if there is an option in Paint.net to crop pictures not in the usual rectangle shape but like using scissors, like someone that cuts a drawing he did on a sheet of paper with scissors, which means to crop in any shape that I want.

I am a labtech at a community college and look after 48 mac pros in which the students use the entire creative suite. (I only mention this becuase any answers need to consider variations in system settings or photoshop settings. college students get into everything!)
But the issue is when you select the crop tool and enter a custom constraint and crop
The image size is sometimes a full 2 inches off of what you set as a crop?! I havn't run into this before
[I do know you can use the drop down box and use {size and resolution} but I want to know why it doesnt work under custom and unconstrained]

I am missing a crop tool which can rotate the crop rectangle. Similar to photoshop's tool. I found no way to rotate the crop rectangle in gimp. How do you cut out something from an image if it needs to be rotated while cropping? I tried rotating first then cropping but it does not give me enough precision so I end up with transparent areas at the border.

I am having a problem with the crop tool. It will not crop the area I want; it goes to a point and stops. It's as if it has a mind of it's own and I can't direct it. I thought it might be the mouse so I took it apart and cleaned it, and then I put a different mouse in. It still does the same thing.

In Photoshop CS6, when you have a shape layer with a layer mask, and the two are not linked together, and the layer mask is selected, you should be able to scale the layer mask independently of the shape. What actually happens is the shape gets scaled and the layer mask stays untouched. In fact, even if you option-click on the layer mask to show the mask by itself, and then try to scale it, you still end up scaling the shape instead of the mask. Even if you go as far as to make a pixel selection of the layer mask and attempt to scale the pixels, the shape still gets scaled and the layer mask still stays put! Unbelievable!
This works correctly in CS4, but not in CS6 (don't know about CS5).
