Photoshop :: Getting The Border Off The Shapes Tool
May 17, 2004
How do you remove the border from the shapes tool? I draw a rounded edge rectangle with a gray foreground and black background and I can't see any options to keep the black from becoming a 1 pixel border around the image.
I even tried changing the BGcolor to the same gray and I still get a black outline.

1. Is it possible to quickly create a shape that just uses the border (at a definable width/etc.). Ie, if I wanted to create a curved rectangle (but just a border of it, so that the inside is transparent), I usually select the shape tool, change to curved corner rectangle, draw the shape, ctrl+click the layer to load it's transparency as a selection, do a select > modify > contract and guesstimate how many pixels in I want to contract (It would be nice if PS auto updated the selection when you changed the CONTRACT value, so you could visualize it), and when that is done, press the DEL/BACKSPACE key to make the inside transparent, leaving just a "border" of the shape. Is there an easier way to this?
2. Secondly, I often thought it would be nice to have a lasso tool that drew selections in the same manner the pen tool makes shapes. But I tried to think outside the box and thought "If I just make a shape with the pen tool, I can then, again, load it as a selection, goto the layer I want to delete/fill and do so, and then remove the pen-created shape. Am I taking the long way around? Are there quicker methods? Also, is there a way to draw with the pen tool so that it uses the border and not a fill? Or is that just how Illustrator does it, and not PS?

I'm just guns blazing in Photoshop CS6 and enjoying every feature of it, but I have this on issue that I think Adobe has overlooked.
In previous Photoshop when you create a shape and open the "Blending Options" window your shape would look like this (if you have the "shape" deselected in the layers palette.
Example 1.
But now in Photoshop CS6 I don't have the option to do so, I'm stuck with this shape bounding border, and it's a real pain when doing website mockups or other things for that matter.
Example 2.:
Example 3.:
As you can see above if I wanted to add a 1 pixel inner shadow to work as a highlight, I can't see a proper preview of it. Unless I hit ok and deselect the shape.

I've been working on a layout in photoshop and used the pen tool quite alot to make my shapes. But the problem is when I fill them they look all jagged (or something like that :/ ). I dont really know how to deal with this, but I just want them to look normal without that pixelate border

It might just be my coppy of Photoshop (7), but whenever I use the shape tool (round, rectangle etc) I always get a small fixed shape, and can't seem to draw the shape to the size I want. I can't do a free-transform after creating the shape, but I don't wanna do that as it alters the overall look.
Does anyone know what may be doing something wrong? Do I have to change a setting somewhere? Unlike the marquee tool, I m not able to select from a dropdown box for its constraints.

I've used Photoshop 5 for 14+ years now and was forced to switch to Photoshop Elements 11 when we installed new computers at work recently. It seems to be missing an important tool (for me) that I can't seem to find. I don't know the official name but I called it a "vector" tool. You could draw custom curved and straight lines between set points to create a unique shape. Does it exist or is there a newer way to do the same task?

When I try to select points in my vector shape (this one is selected), and I have other vector shape behind that one, I start dragging with Direct Selection Tool in order to select those two points, I got selected three points, two from first vector shape, and one more form shape that was behind and in the area where I was dragging selection. Also, now both vector shape become selected. Why is this happening if only one vector shape was selected?
I'm using Photoshop CC.

way to make parallel shapes using the Path Tool similar to Photoshop?
I haven't used Photoshop in a while, but I remember that you could hold CTRL (on PC) and click with the Pen Tool and it would straighten up your shape for you once the paths are connected and would like to do similar in GIMP but can't find out how.

when working on illustrator my selection tools won't adjust shapes anymore. I can move shapes around but I cannot resize them or stretch them. If I have a rectangle shape on my screen selected, the hash marks that are normally in the middle are no longer there, also at the edges of the rectangle the selection tool doesn't change over to the rotate tool. My selection tool also has a small black square at the bottom right of it that I haven't noticed before. I have no clue how I got into this mode, preferably without resetting all of my preferences,

I'm looking for information on how to edit the settings for the Filters/Decor/Add Border. I'd love to set this to a 2 px border in black rather then the bright blue 25 px border.
I'm using Gimp 2.6 on a Mac running 10.6 and would like to know how to edit the filter.

One of the things I do a LOT is outline a circular object (in a photo) using the line/curve tool in a separate layer so that I can select the circular thing or everything else. Hope that made sense. Anyway, the thing is not exactly a circular and the line/curve tool works great but it would be nice to have a shape tool that would draw a circle that could be sized/positioned and slightly deformed using nibs (or nubs or whatever) similar to the line/curve tool.
Is there a way to do that with the built in shape tool? Or is there a plugin?

Bottom section displays with path displayed...

I'm using the Pencil Tool to draw shapes (not good enough for the Pen Tool yet) and some of my paths are not as smooth as I'd like, so I go over them with the Smooth Tool, though it seems like it either smooths the path a little bit or completely changes its shape.

I've been having an issue with the paint bucket tool; when I fill in an area with the tool it leaves a thin white border between the area and any lines drawn with the paintbrush tool.
(see attachment) how this can be remedied? Since I'm working on a comic and going back over every line filling in the color takes far too much time.

I have a drawing that has a white background.
I would like to add more to the white background to make it bigger without having to stretch it and distort the image.
I want to place a circle shaped outline border around the original image with a set border thickness and color and be able to crop/remove the portion of the image beyond the outline, changing it from a square/rectangle image to a circular image.
If I am not able to change the drawing to have a round outer border from square, how can I make the outer parts past the newly created circular outline transparent?

I drew something up on a sheet of paper, scanned it, then traced it's bitmap as line art. I then proceded to edit the vectors to recover all the detail I lost with the tracing. It took forever!
Now that I´m done, I realised there is a problem... how can I color in the drawing, if the lines themselves make up the shape? Essentially, I´m left with blank spaces in between all the lines instead of solid individual shapes that can be colored in.
What can I do? I´m so desperate I´m thinking of creating a gazillion individual shapes with the colors, and slapping them underneath the lines to "improv" a fill. But that will take waay too long, so is there an easier way?
If I could "invert" the shape I have now, so that the blank spaces become individual shapes, and the lines become blank spaces.

I want to make a border for something. The border is basically a christmas light border around some text. What I did was I took a picture of one lightbulb and edited it so that I just got the lightbulb (no background or anything...). What I want to do is basically create a border from that single light bulb by alternating the colors of the bulb (like how you can with a brush). Can I create a new brush out of that light bulb? I coulda sworn I've done it before, and there was a lesson on brushes in the book... But I can't figure out how. Or maybe theres a way to get around it by doing a some sort of border?
