Just got PSE11 and am trying to do a full backup. Follow all instructions but after selecting "full backup" it goes into "Calculating Total Media Size" and hangs up at 5%. According to all the instructions I should be getting a screen to "select destination drive". Doesn't look like its doing anything after the 5% indication.

I also wonder, is it suppose to take so long?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter installing PSE 11, it asks to do a Full Catalog Backup. After selecting and starting the backup it goes to 92% complete and then hangs and the application crashes. Tried several times, same result.
I have installed it in my desktop running WIN 8 Release Preview Eval copy (Build8400) 64 bit.
I have elements 7 and want to do a backup for a spare, but also use the backup to move to a new computer I just purchased. When I do the backup (full), it runs (I give it about 3 hrs). When I open the task manager is says not responding. Is there another way to move the pictures and captions to a backup and to put on the new computer. Were talking 42 gb of pictures.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLike many other users on these boards, I am unable to complete a full backup of a particular catalog on my machine using PSE 11 (or PSE 10 for that matter). I have four catalogs on this machine and three of the four complete the full backup process without any problems. That last, non-cooperating, catalog is much larger (7,389 photographs) than the others, but I do not think that this would pose a problem.
I have removed all videos, audios, projects, PDFs, and audio captions (in other words, all media types other than photographs) from the catalog. The only files remaining are photographs (that is, JPG files). I attempt to complete a full backup and, when calculating the total media size, the PSE 11 application freezes at five to six percent. I have attempted this in PSE 10 as well, but with the same results.
The only other item of note is this, when I search for the various media types, I see the message "no media to be displayed" in the middle of the organizer window. However, when I search for video, I do not see the message--the organizer window is blank (no text message as seen for the other media types).
Lastly, I have reconnected all missing files. (None.) Optimized the catalog. Fixed errors in the catalog anyway. (None.)
how I can complete a full backup of this catalog? A large cash reward awaits.

Since transferring my photo files from my hard drive to an external drive(without telling lightroom) I have completely lost all connections between lightroom and the new destination (my external drive). There is no sign of anything at all in Lightroom. It shows 0 photos, my preferences seem gone, and it is as though I have just loaded up lightroom for the very first time. Do I need to start from scratch and reimport my photos or is there some way I can retreive/reconnect the photos so I have the edits I have already made?

Specifically, "Please check your folder permissions, and make sure you have available space on your backup drive and main catalog's drive." I'm not sure what's going on because as far as I know permissions should be fine and there is certainly enough space on the external hard drive. Idk if this makes a differnence but I currently have my catalog backed up on the same internal hard drive that lightroom is used on, I'm just now wanting to back it up on the external. View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I import images into Lightroom 4 I always automatically backup to my external drive. I then edit my images and usually end up rejecting about 1/3 to half of my images. I delete these permenantly from my PC and the L4 catalogue. BUT they still appear to remain on my backup drive which is now innevitably full. Is there a quick and easy way of deleting these rejected images or syning the master files with the catalogue to free up nearly half of my backup drive?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have LR3 on a Mac running OS 10.6.8. My catalog, cache and images were stored on an external Lacie 1TB drive (partitioned so it can be used by a pc and mac). My catalog backup files were saved on another external drive MXTR as well as copies of all my images. The Lacie had started self ejecting while running LR3 and I thought it was maybe a problem with the cable, as it would work fine after rebooting. Yesterday it crashed LR3 and never remounted. I used Disk Utility to try and repair the disk and it instructed me to erase the disk and start over. I was not worried, since my catalog was backed up to another drive. . Another 2 hours to copy my images from the MXTR to the Lacie (again the drive never self ejected during this time either). So now I go to find my most recent backup catalog. The most recent one I could find was dated 2/09/2012. I am baffled. What happened all those times I was backing up? I upgraded to LR3 in 2011, and I don't remember ever telling it to backup to another folder or drive.

I've told LR to use drive I and I confirm in both LR and in Windows Explorer that that is what it is doing.
When importing, why does LR4.3 continuously tell me I have to delete files on my 'E' drive to "make room" the drive before LR can continue? The importing is being done to the I drive.
My catalog in Lightroom 4 is spread over several hard drives and broken into years, with subfolders holding each seperate shoot. I recently replaced the harddrive that only held 2009 with a 3TB drive that should be able to accomodate 2010,2011 and 2012. I would like to move those files onto that drive within Lightroom so that it tracks where they are.

I say OK and save the file. The 2nd time I'll try to open the X6 file again then the Error occurs! I changed my settings in CDraw to a local dir c: emp, also to a new drive - but nothing happens! All the drives have mor than 400 GB free space! I hope this will be enough.
