Photoshop Elements :: How To Find Duplicate Images In Organizer
Oct 26, 2012
I have been using many versions of photoshop elements and edited many of my files. So, now I have very many duplicates, near duplicates, and versions of the same photo. I think I have over 20,000 photos and they are taking up too much space. I tried using a duplicate file remover and it removed several thousand, but I still see many duplicates when I run photoshop elements 11. I am tempted to not use the organizer any more and just rely on a folder browser.
I'm using Elements Organizer 11.0 with Windows 8. These temp files have been a problem in at least the previous three versions of PSE with the previous three versions of Windows.
Scenario: Suspiciously low on disk space Problem: Found thousands of duplicate image files in Windows temp folder (ex. C:UsersUsernameAppDataLocalTemp)
PSE creates these files and never deletes them AFAICS after exiting the program, rebooting, using the Windows 'Disk Cleanup' utility, optimizing the catalog, etc. I found no user preference for deleting temp files or limiting them to a particular size.
These can be created for many reasons, but one sure way to do this is to choose File>Save Metada to Files. (If you don't have any images selected it will attempt to do this for all files displayed.) In my case it makes a duplicate of my 29MB CR2 file and a backup of the associated 4KB XMP file. I've used Windows' fc.exe utility to verify that the CR2 is exactly the same, byte for byte.
Is PSE designed to leave these around for us to clean up after they consume the entire hard disk? Am I missing something?
Organiser tags will only find one tagged category at a time. E.g Typing "gill" in the find bar will return all photos with Gill in. Likewise Laura returns all photos with Laura in, but type both Gill followed by Laura will only return photos of Gill. I did not have this problem on Elements 10.
The PE6 won't even boot up on my computer. Mostly I use it for the phot organizer. Now I cannot access the organizer to find my photos. I do not see that organizer with the CS5.5 program. Is there another way to access those photos. Or can I reinstall the PE6?
just downloaded trial version on mac, running mountain lion, when I select an image in organiser and click open in editor the editor opens but doesnt load an image.
I saved all my images to a cd and to my organizer in JPeg format. Unfortunately, the cd showed blank a few days later and I'm unable to view the images in my organizer. They appear as a blank box with a question mark in it. Am I supposed to change the format to view them?
I changed Adobe Elements version (from 10 to 11) and Brand New all-in-one Dell XPS computer that comes with Windows 8 as OS (From XP SP3) ... Now my import in Adobe Organzer gets stuck. Adobe Elements sees the camera, and compares the files on my camera to the photos in Organizer and knows how may are duplicates. I then select all the photos it finds as Non-Duplicates and tell it what directory to import into and select (Finish/Import) and it just sits there. I can change anything on that screen for options, but it really is locked up. I have to use Task Manager to end the task so that I can get back into Adobe Organizer.
Trying to scan images from a scanner into the organizer, but the scanner's automatic naming system resets after every session, so the next time I try to import images I get a "filename already exists" error and the scanned images are lost.
I have been using Elements 9 for more than a year. Today it started doing something crazy. When I edit a photo (did this using "guided edit"), instead of saving the edited version (in a version set), all I get is a grey screen with an hour glass. When I go to my hard drive, I find both the original and the edited version saved, but it no longer shows up in Organizer.
I seem to have made the mistake of moving several images around outside of Organizer and now they are lost - or disconnected. I've tried the Reconnect feature and after running for nearly an hour not a single image has been reconnected (I need to reconnect over 500!). I've tried to manually browse but where to look for them. I am a Mac user, and I do have these images backed up on an external drive.
problem finding the "Create a duplicate while transforming again" shortcut in the Keyboard Shortcuts menu.I would like to change that default shortcut.
This is probably a really really simple question but I can't for the life of me find how I can find out an individual image size from multiple images on a canvas. eg I have 3 photos i want to arrange 1 large and the other two next to it half the size. How can I edit individual image size on the canvas as when I select the image on a sperate layer I want to resize it just resizes the entire canvas and not the individual image
How do I transfer the entire organizer of Elements 9 to the empty organizer in Elements 12? By the way, Elements 9 is so defective, it will not even let me back up my organizer in 9. The 9 organizer would let me select a photo, bring it into the editor, print it and then it would crash... then I had to start all over again... the darn thing crashes as it was prone to problems that adobe ignored. Is it better to just re-load all the photos from a fresh folder that is on my desktop? There are 5,000 !
I'm using PE9. Every time I go to the Organizer (even after switching to another program briefly) the Update box appears, searching Watched Folders for new pics. It always finds them, frequently the same, imports them and then tells me they're already in the Organizer. During this process, which may last 5-15 minutes, I can't use the program.
I am trying to locate duplicate polylines within a drawing of about 9000 polylines. I do not want to delete them, nearly locate them to compare on an in house program. I know there are 16 duplicate locations, but the drawing clean-up command only locates 2 of the 16.
Just installed Lightroom 4, more than 60000 images were imported. Many of them were duplicates, triplets and so on. I want to have a clean, unincombured library. Should I delete the 60000 images and reinstall the images from my photo digital cards or use the slow process of "X" out the unwanted images? I would like to start improving my images vs removing the unwanted images.
Does the latest version of Lightroom have the capability to find duplicate photos? I have a bunch of JPGs and no desire to go through all of them to find duplicates. If Lightroom can not find duplicated, any app that is good at finding duplicate photos or near duplicate photos.
When I try to import a photo, Lightroom5 tells me that my photo is a duplicate. When I search for the duplicate from within lightroom, lightroom can't find it by filename. When I search for the duplicate using a file manager outside of lightroom, the file manager can't find the duplicate either. I don't believe there is a duplicate file that has been imported in Lightroom.
I have a picture all set in Photoshop. It is a 3x4 photo. I want to duplicate it 6 times so I can print it out on one sheet of paper and then cut the 6 same pictures from that. I try to duplicate it and it just keeps opening up a new window within photoshop.
How can I get the 6 photos all on one sheet and lay them out - 3 across and 3 on the bottom? I do not necessarily want them right next to each other and want a little space between them if that is at all possible.
find duplicate Text & highlight with any color (numbers or text string) ? I have a drawing and have to find duplicate text string, file is bigger and need make this automatic find, & highlight the duplicate text.
I have a large collection of illustrations (in the thousands) and I often find duplicates within the collection, which I have to tediously identify one at a time.
I'm interested in a deduping application that will not only identify duplicates, but also be able to find similar illustrations with slight variations (that have been altered using photoshop). The collection is entirely comprised of photoshop tiff files.
