Jun 13, 2013This has started to happen to me recently, working across indesign and Photoshop, for some cutouts it is easier to have a "pure white" background (0%c, 0%m, 0%y, 0%k) rather than transparency, it keeps down file sizes and speeds up workflow etc - plus sometimes press images just come like that.
recently I have noticed that some images, despite being saved as a "pure white" background, are coming out with 1%c, 1%m, 1%y, 0%k backgrounds once I re-open them. Doesn't matter if I save, Save as, copy the image, duplicate it, I keep getting the 1% color back in. This is occasionally causing problems with printers.

Aug 30, 2004while making black and white illustrations with photoshop: I can't make the background pure white! Even if I put the cmyk value as 0000 it changes it automatically to 0223 or something. You can't tell the difference on the screen, but in print this comes out as a very light grey, which pretty much destroys my work. I don't think the black is pure black either.
Working in bitmap mode is not an option.

I crop and resize the image - still black. I save as a jpg, and when I reopen the jpg, the black is no longer pure - (#010101).

Nov 3, 2013I've received two orders of CDs for a client, and in the printed artwork there are some flaws that have me wondering what to do to avoid this.
Files were submitted in PDF format with text converted to curves. I believe the artwork is then imported into AI at the other end before going to print.
Along the edge of an object with a drop shadow, there is a fine white line showing. On the two products with identical artwork, the line shows on different edges, but appears to be where the drop shadow ends.
In other spots, there is what I would call "scratches", where, within an image there is a fine white line. This is not an edge or overlap, so I'm at a loss for this.
In another place, one character in a word essentially did not print. So I'm wondering what my "best practice" would be to avoid this. Should I "flatten" everything when I'm done, essentially converting the entire page to a single 300DPI bitmap?
Should I include text in the flattened bitmap, or is it best to leave as curves? My gut says leaving as curves preserves maximum resolution, but does it matter if it is not being scaled?
I've never before had issues with getting artwork printed from PDFs. In most cases, I imagine the print is created directly from my submitted PDF.

Yesterday, I took a number of experimental shots (a red phone cord lying on a white background). The white background (an artists white canvas lying on the floor) was well lit from above using 5600K lights.
The shots were all taken using auto focus, auto exposure, etc and in the view finder everything appeared to be correct, but on later viewing the photos, the white background appears to be grey.
I have attached a sample image to show the grey colour.
especially when using the auto mode when taking the photos.
I am not concerned about the picture quality only the grey background and I did not undertake a WB as I thought that this was part of the auto mode when taking the photo. the shot was taken by half pressing the shutter release butto to ensure that everything was OK then continuing to fully press the button.

Aug 30, 2013In the attached image, I'm trying to achieve a true white background in PSE. I put a true white box in the image to show the gray background that's in the original shot. (I understand it'd be best if I could achieve the true white with the camera in the original shot, but this seems to be the best I can do with the camera. I set white balance and over-exposed as far as I could without washing out the subject. Still a gray background.)
The problem I'm having is that every PSE tool I use to try to adjust the background image washes out the thin hairs of the grain. Ideally, I'd like to be able to create a perfect mask so I can just kockout the background. That way, I can adjust the tones of the subject without affecting the surrounding area.
