View 1 Replies View RelatedI have successfully carried out a trial back up of an Elements 6 2000 picture catalog from an XP based PC, using the Elements 6 full back-up process. This process is intended to be used eventually to transfer this and other catalogs onto a new Windows 8 PC installed with Elements 11.
However, in the interim I would also like to be able to access the picture files and the catalog data on the ehd from a Vista based laptop which also has Elements 6 installed. How to do this without carrying out a full restore process that would load all of the files onto my laptop's hard drive.
In transferring the picture files to the end I also seem to have lost the original file structure that was on my PC, as folders have been renamed numerically and are all held individually in the main folder of the end. Whilst this doesn't matter too much whilst the files remain on the end, provided the catalog still know

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just had a new 1TB internal hard drive installed in my PC and then the original smaller internal 500GB hard drive cloned onto it. The new 1TB is now Local Dick C and the smaller 500GB has been changed from C and is now Local Disk F. PSE11 is running from the new C and all my pictures are on both C and F but the catalogue is pointing to F. I want to delete all of the old files on F to free up space since they are all cloned to the new 1TB C, so I want the PSE11 catalogue to point only to the pictures on C. I have tried creating a new Catalogue and importing my pictures from C. The images come in and look connected to C but, when I close PSE11 and then reopen that new catalogue, the image path reads F, as does the original catalogue. So, now I have two catalogues apparently point to F but I want to: 1) have only one catalogue pointing to C; 2) the delete catalogues pointing to F; 3) then reformat F: so I have a clean 500GB old hard drive for future expansion.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm copying RAW files from a shoot onto my network RAID drive in a per-album folder, from where I then import into a new LR catalog (I'm using LR 4.1) on my Windows laptop for that album.
I'm finding that editing RAW files on a network drive from a wireless laptop is awfully slow (not to mention not being able to continue the work offline somewhere else), so I'd like to cache those files on my speedy SSD drive just until I'm done editing and exporting/publishing that album.
I back up my per-album catalog onto the network folder alongside the RAW files since that's my IT-managed master repository. When I'm done editing, I'd purge the cached files and just keep the catalog previews on my limited capacity SSD.
So, is there a way to tell LR to, for one/all files imported from a location (in my case a network folder), look in an alternate location for the identical files? Since I create per-album catalogs in per-album folders, there wouldn't be filename clashing. Either LR can provide this caching behavior on its own or I'd manually copy files from the network folder to a local folder and tell LR to look there first.
I don't really want to make copies of files into secondary folders within LR since then it's a hassle to merge edits on the cached copy to its master copy (I haven't done this, but I'd imagine so).
I transferred my LR3 files from my WD hard drive to my new Lacie Thunderbolt drive and now I can only get the preview and it says the file is missing. Is there a setting I need to change that I am not aware of?

View 3 Replies View RelatedCannot find explanations as for most recovery seems to work fine regardless of where the scratch drive is set. For me it only seems to work if the scratch is set as boot drive, C:.
I became aware of this after recently adding an SSD to my system and accordingly setting the scratch disk to one of the other larger drives. After a photoshop crash there was no recovery - surprising as it had worked flawlessly in the past. I did a test, switching the scratch location among a few drives and seeing where the recovery files were written - the answer was C: drive. In any other location the PSAutoRecover folder was created, but no files ever appear there.
Am seeing an issue with Photoshop7 , cannot save files to a network drive using .psd format..It says Disk space full, though there is more than 1TB of space available on the network drive..This happens when tryingto save file in .psd format using Save as option within photoshop. There is no issue in saving the same file locally and copying it fom local drive to network drive..OS is windows 7.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNo one of the used files are bigger than 20MB in file size. When opening the file, my empty hard drive space (40GB of free space) decreases to ZERO. Which temporary file on earth can be 40GB big? My system is an i Mac with 24GB RAM. How can this happen?
EDIT: I just found out this might be the so called scratch-disc. But anyway, how can a file take up this much space? Photoshop has a allocated RAM space of 16GB on my system.
I have a bunch of random files named *MVM_*.tmp randomly split between my second internal drive and a portable drive (or more if another external drive is connected) when editing or opening a .GIF file in PS CS5.
These files make it impossible to remove the portable drive without first saving my work and closing PS (once I had to reboot in order to remove the drive). Also, often as not, some of the files remain on the portable drive.
No 3rd party plugins, just vanilla PS. I saw another thread but that was about PNG files (this happens too), not GIFs.
Also happens when Liquify tool is used.
i have been able to recover most lost data and images, jpegs etc using a recovery program...
BUT for some reason not all my photoshop images/files will load, others try to load but i get this error message come up "could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop"
Why has my DVD drive disappeared from the list of available drives in Photoshop Elements? How do I get PE to pick it up again?
View 7 Replies View Relatedi recovered .nef raw image files from a dead external drive. i now can not open them in any program. the message i get in CS6 is 'could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file.'
originally the extension was .NEF now it is .nef- i dont know if that makes a difference, but i hope the file is somewhat corrupted but still fixable.
usually the .NEF file has a .xmp sidecar file with it. these ended up separated from the original .NEF when the files were corrupted, and i cant match them up.
I have elements 7 and want to do a backup for a spare, but also use the backup to move to a new computer I just purchased. When I do the backup (full), it runs (I give it about 3 hrs). When I open the task manager is says not responding. Is there another way to move the pictures and captions to a backup and to put on the new computer. Were talking 42 gb of pictures.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThere is a serious root problem with Adobe's implemented permissionless-temp-file creation methods (pun intended.) The problem is that during startup, both Bridge and Photoshop CS6 try to make temp files on the root folder of the OS drive. Its affecting many peoples' installations by crashing them on application launch if not run by the super-administrator account on the computer. Adobe says to just run as admin to fix it, which does fix the start up crash. However, for me, it creates a gigantic problem: it breaks OS-to-PS and OS-to-Bridge drag and drop functionality completely!!! I literally was slowed to a crawl in my workflow having to import photos 1 at a time through the file-> open menu because I couldn't drag and drop various files from various locations on my computer. Not everything is clumped in 1 area neatly for Bridge to open everything, and I never realized just how much I used this function until this run as admin band-aid broke it. Eventually I fixed the CS temp location after 10-12 hours of hair pulling research and trial and error, and I finally have Photoshop CS6 working without admin permissions and everything is dandy with drag and drop, but only in PS. Bridge still cannot be run without administrator privileges and cannot have files dropped in or out of it to or from Explorer, and I am getting really frustrated here.
So does anyone else find their drag and drop ability gone once running Bridge/PS CS6 in admin mode? Is there a way to move the default temp creation location of Bridge as well? I'm frustrated and I think Adobe seems to be taking this permissions issue way too lightly!
This is a problem that has gotten progressively worse recently. I can still download photos from my camera to the hard drive using Elements 5, but I can no longer import more than about 5 photos at a time from the hard drive to the Organizer. My computer is a Dell 8300 purchased in 2004, with a Pentium 4 processor, 500 GB hard drive, 4 GB RAM,Windows XP, and Norton AntiVirus. I have about 265 GB of photos on a 350 GB partition (G: drive) of the hard drive. The other partition (C: drive) has about 50 GB of free space.
I've tried many fixes, including using CCleaner and Microsoft Disk Cleaner to remove unnecessary files and fix Registry problems; turning off and repowering the entire system; using Nikon Transfer to download the photos, instead of Photoshop; using Startup Inspector to remove unnecessary startup programs, as well as turning off all other software.
I get two different messages, at different times, from Elements when the process freezes:
1. "The ODBC data source reported the following error: "Microsoft] [ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Invalid argument."
2. "The ODBC data source reported the following error: [Microsoft] [ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time." (I'm not on a network.)
I also sometimes get another message from Norton: "High CPU usage by AOL", even when AOL is shut down.
I upgraded to Windows 8 from Vista, and my PSE 7 disappeared. I have loaded PSE 11 on my computer, and now I want to convert the original catalog for use in my current PSE version. However, I cannot find the catalog on my hard drive.
