Photoshop :: TMP Files Locking Portable Drive(s) When Editing GIFs

Feb 17, 2012

I have a bunch of random files named *MVM_*.tmp randomly split between my second internal drive and a portable drive (or more if another external drive is connected) when editing or opening a .GIF file in PS CS5.

These files make it impossible to remove the portable drive without first saving my work and closing PS (once I had to reboot in order to remove the drive). Also, often as not, some of the files remain on the portable drive.

No 3rd party plugins, just vanilla PS. I saw another thread but that was about PNG files (this happens too), not GIFs.

Also happens when Liquify tool is used.

Photoshop :: Opening CS On My Portable Hard Drive....

May 14, 2007

I installed Photoshop on my portable hard drive in hopes that I can travel with it without the need for a laptop since I have a computer at home and work. I would like to use it at both. I get an error at work that says.... Memory could not be allocated for the activation process. Please close all applications and try again..... I Know this is incorrect as there is plenty of ram and available memory on the sytem.

Photoshop :: PC Locking Up Editing Templates

My pc, a P4 with plenty of ram is locking up using PSD CS3 occasionally. I am editing some premade website templates and that's when it's doing it. Clean boot...no browser running but AVG is running.

It was doing it with one template, but then stopped. Now, with a new temp it's doing the same thing.

Lightroom :: Cache Large RAW Files Imported From Network Drive On Local Drive?

Jul 5, 2012

I'm copying RAW files from a shoot onto my network RAID drive in a per-album folder, from where I then import into a new LR catalog (I'm using LR 4.1) on my Windows laptop for that album.

I'm finding that editing RAW files on a network drive from a wireless laptop is awfully slow (not to mention not being able to continue the work offline somewhere else), so I'd like to cache those files on my speedy SSD drive just until I'm done editing and exporting/publishing that album.

I back up my per-album catalog onto the network folder alongside the RAW files since that's my IT-managed master repository. When I'm done editing, I'd purge the cached files and just keep the catalog previews on my limited capacity SSD.

So, is there a way to tell LR to, for one/all files imported from a location (in my case a network folder), look in an alternate location for the identical files? Since I create per-album catalogs in per-album folders, there wouldn't be filename clashing. Either LR can provide this caching behavior on its own or I'd manually copy files from the network folder to a local folder and tell LR to look there first.

I don't really want to make copies of files into secondary folders within LR since then it's a hassle to merge edits on the cached copy to its master copy (I haven't done this, but I'd imagine so).

AutoCad :: Locking Out Model Space While Editing Text In Paper Space

Oct 24, 2012

I use x-ref's inserted in model space and label in paper space - always.

I would like to see a way of locking out model space while editing text in paper space. Unless you double click right on the text, you often end up in Model Space...I know - big deal right? It can become annoying or a big deal when a deadline is looming - when is one never? Also big fan of locking viewports.

Illustrator :: Locking Down AI Files

Aug 16, 2012

How do you lockdown an AI file or rather hold ownership to it even if someone else is allowed to edit the file. BAsiclaly I want someone else to use the file for printing or say for animation. In this case you're asked to give the EPS or PDF file and this is usually for editing purposes I believe. Now if this is true and you have to give, how do you retain the original ownership to the file irrespective of someone editing it or whatever?

I looked at PDF password protection with no editing capabilities but that is a joke, you can circumvent it. So what is the best method here?

Photoshop :: Portable Export Format For Use In Different Graphic Editors

Jun 23, 2008

This is not a specific Photoshop question, but a general, portable graphics format -- not for web page display, but for sharing with different graphics designers, who might be using different graphics editors PhotoShop, PaintShopPro, GIMP, etc. A format that preserves layers, vector graphics, etc., for editing.

Is there any general, standard format that preserves all these editing features but is portable between most sophisticated graphics editors?

Photoshop :: Recovery Files Only Written On Boot Drive?

Mar 14, 2013

Cannot find explanations as for most recovery seems to work fine regardless of where the scratch drive is set.  For me it only seems to work if the scratch is set as boot drive, C:.

I became aware of this after recently adding an SSD to my system and accordingly setting the scratch disk to one of the other larger drives.  After a photoshop crash there was no recovery - surprising as it had worked flawlessly in the past.  I did a test, switching the scratch location among a few drives and seeing where the recovery files were written - the answer was C: drive.  In any other location the PSAutoRecover folder was created, but no files ever appear there.

Photoshop Elements :: Accessing Catalogs And Files From External Hard Drive

Jan 31, 2013

I have successfully carried out a trial back up of an Elements 6 2000 picture catalog from an XP based PC, using the Elements 6 full back-up process. This process is intended to be used eventually to transfer this and other catalogs onto a new Windows 8 PC installed with Elements 11.

However, in the interim I would also like to be able to access the picture files and the catalog data on the ehd from a Vista based laptop which also has Elements 6 installed. How to do this without carrying out a full restore process that would load all of the files onto my laptop's hard drive.

In transferring the picture files to the end I also seem to have lost the original file structure that was on my PC, as folders have been renamed numerically and are all held individually in the main folder of the end. Whilst this doesn't matter too much whilst the files remain on the end, provided the catalog still know
