Photoshop Elements :: Entering Text Into Image But Letters Are Surrounded By Moving Selection Dashes
Dec 2, 2012
When I enter text into an image, the letters are surrounded by the moving selection dashes, the font colour is not there, the image turns a strange red colour and I cannot get rid of the selection dashes.
I am simply trying to create a banner for my Etsy shop (essentially a picture with text over it) and I'm having a devil of a time getting this simple task accomplished. Whenever I have the text box over the image I want to use I type in the text and it comes up as 'little marching ants' at the bottom of the textbox. I then go into preview and none of the text comes up over the image.
I want to select part of an image with just one layer. Say I just flattened the image and have to move one part of. I select it with the rectangular select tool. It seems intuitive that I could then just move what I selected, but when I drag the selection, the selection itself moves without moving what is inside the selection.
If I then remember to click the move tool and try to move what's in the selection (seems to work sometimes, maybe when there's multiple layers?) the entire image moves.
The only way I can move part of the image over is if I make a selection and then cut it (ctrl X) then paste it.
How am I supposed to move part of the flattened image, is there a way I can set it to default to "When I select something, I can immediately drag that selected area around."
when entering text, mega spaces seem to be a default between lines of text. Changing the leading does nothing to correct this. Thinking that my software became corrupted, I deactivated and reinstalled. But the problem persists. If I type the text into Word, cut and paste into PSE10, the problem continues.
I am creating subway art and am creating various templates. I would like it so that when I have a text box with a 5 letter word, and I want to enter a longer word, they all fit and just kind of smush together rather than me having to fix the text boxes constantly.
I'm using Elements 5.0. Is there any way to limit the text during entry to a set area. Can't seem to find anything like a bounding box that prevents it 'leaking' out of the side/s of the image. Anything similar to setting margins in word for example?
When I make a selection in a picture, the selection dotted line shows a coloured border, which is the colour of the second choice in the Materials palette. Especially if I make an addition to the selection, this coloured line runs right through the selected figure. If I copy the selection, undo the selection and then paste as a new layer, the coloured border, especially in added areas, remains visible.
how I can get rid of this strange artifact? I didn't use to have it, it emerged a few days ago.
When selecting an area I would like to modify/transform/reshape just that selection (the marching ants) without moving the underlying image. How do I do that?
I need to assemble multiple images in an illustration program (inkscape or illustrator for example). So I want to cut and paste several regions from different images, but I want them to all be exactly the same size. What I had been doing in photoshop was just dragging the selection from one open image to the other and that would preserve the size so I could copy again, but that doesn't seem to work in GIMP, or rather, nothing I tried seems to work.
How can I get a selection to be identically sized between different images without actually moving any part of the image itself?
I'm trying to create a logo whose letters have an image in them - which I've got figured out (turning letters to outlines, creating clipping mask with image). The trouble is, once the image is inside the letters, I can't figure out how to then give the letters a thin stroke outline. Is this possible? The image I've placed is high contrast black and white, so when I create the clipping mask, large chunks of the letters disappear.
I am using Xara's Photo & Graphic Designer for the first time and slowly getting acclimated to the program after using Ulead's Photo Impact for 6 years.
Just one really basic question. I have three elements in my final design: two seperate lines of text surrounded by a black outline. To save this as a single graphic (.gif format), what do I need to do? With Ulead all I had to do was select all, right click and select merge as one, then simply save in whatever format I wanted to the destination of my choosing.
Is there a similar "merge as one" command in Xara or do I select each element in my graphic, then choose save from the file menu?
I have two layers: a background in yellow and a cropped image in the other layer. Now I want to dissolve the cropped image in the background, how can i do that automatically? I know I have the smudge tool, but the results are not so good for me...

What is the procedure for moving text in an image after it has been flattened. At one time I was able to use the Polygonal lasso tool to select and move, now I am unable to do so.
I've been adding text to layers for a few months with no problem. I use the text tool all I get is a 'dot' with a line that extends as I type. It does create a layer and the layer is named by whatever I typed but there isn't anything there.I've gotten the outline to show, but it's empty. the font size might be too small to see. I have a 25 inch background and set the font to 72 but still nothing.
PSE 9 crashes when entering the editor, returning a note about 'error 1 - need to re-install PSE 9' which unfortunately I can't do because it rolls-back the attempt to uninstall. There must be something blocking the uninstall required before it will re-install the product. Still trying some ideas like installing on another drive on the computer, but to no avail.
At some point, several months ago, my sister and I were playing with transform (by phone, we are in different states) -- she had taken a Photoshop class and wanted to try to duplicate something.
I tried using my type tool yesterday, and couldn't see anything when I typed. (White background, black text, Arial, 14 pt, 100%). I've tried clearing type presets. I finally tried blowing it up to 500% and saw a small, gray font-like image where I was typing.
I held down Ctrl and played with the transform box: if I expanded the box, my text is there. I've tried clicking on everything at the top when in transform. How to get my type tool entering text in the regular way.
When I tap on an image in my Window's photo folder, a selection of programs pop up, but PS Elements is not one of the. When I press on browse, PS Elements 11 can not be found.
I'm trying to get use to this quick selection tool , i have an image i need in the middle of the photo and all round the sides i want to whiten, the tool once draggin down either side selections all the picture no mater what setting i use,
