Photoshop :: Difference In TIFF And RAW Import With ACR
Sep 19, 2012
I'm experimenting with a workflow, so whilst this may seem like an odd thing to want to make work, I have a genuine reason for doing what's described below:
I have Canon CR2 RAW files from a 7D, Photoshop CS6 13.01 64bit, with ACR 7.1.0.354, running on Windows 7 64bit.
1. I import a CR2 image via ACR, with no changes to any sliders; opening it as Adobe RGB (1998); 16bit
2. I then save the image as a TIFF file, leaving "ICC Profile: Abode RGB (1998)" selected in the Color section of the file save dialog
3. If I then close all files, and reopen the CR2 and TIFF image, they (as expected) appear to be identical
4. After closing all files again, I then open the CR2 and make an exposure adjustment (e.g. -1.00)
5. Using Bridge, I select the TIFF file, right click and select Open in Camera Raw. I make the same exposure adjustment as for the CR2
6. Now, the adjusted CR2 and adjusted TIFF are different. A colour shift is noticeable, and for a severe exposure change (i.e. +4.00) the shadow detail in the CR2 is a lot lighter
Here are two cropped areas from the files (with a 4 stop push), showing some branch/leaf and grass detail respectively. The TIFF has a greener colour cast for the grass, but much darker shadows:
TIFF
RAW
The CR2 is still a RAW file, and as such has the original Bayer pattern data, but is there any way I can make ACR adjustments to a TIFF (taken from a CR2) to behave in the same way as the original CR2?

I am cleaning up the Hard Drive on my Mac G4. My scanned images are taking a great portion of the 80 Gig drive. I finished clearing my external drive by removing nearly 60 gigs of images by storing them on DVD. I will do the same for the Mac drive.
My trouble is that all my images are stored in TIFF format which takes up enormous space no matter the storage. Since I output images in various sizes, mainly prints, to 30 x 40 inches, I need a master image archived in the best format for such. However, I do not want to fill my drives, or DVD, with large files. Code:

if I create a new document, say A4, and then import a TIFF photo to that document, the photo appears much larger than my background A4 document. So, do I edit my photo and then export it as a TIFF again, or should I resize my background document from A4 to match the size of my photo before exporting? What I'm asking is that I don't want to lose the original size of my TIFF image, so when I export my image will CD save the TIFF image in it's original size or resize it to that of my created A4 document?

Just started using Photomatix pro. Used autoimport to reimport into LR 3. Can only see Photomatix tiffs when switch to all photographs. This pulls up all 8000 plus photos rather than just the file folder in which I am working. Is there a way to get these tiffs to show in previous import photos?

Running a script to open up files and convert to another type. When it gets to a TIFF type file a dialog window titled 'TIFF Import Options' is opening. This windows has an Options column that contains two radio selections for 'Convert Layers to Objects' and 'Flatten Layers to a Single Image'. How would I open the file with the 'flatten layers to a single image' set?

I am using PSE 12 as an external editor for Aperture. When I ask to use an external photo editor, Aperture creates a .tiff file in my Aperture folder, launches PSE 12 and tells it to edit that .tiff file. This all works great. When I am done editing in PSE 12, I ask it to save the file and it saves it back to the original Aperture folder with a .tif extension. I can instead say "save as" and then it suggests the file name with a .tif extension. When I correct the extension to .tiff it warns me that I'm going to overwrite the file (exactly what I want!). I say yes and then I find out that PSE did not overwrite the file, but wrote it as a .tif file anyway. I have to go to the folder, delete the .tiff file and rename the .tif file to .tiff and then everything is fine - but what a hassle.

I downloaded CC version today, thinking it was going to upgrade/update CS6. Now I have both versions installed. I plan on removing CS6, assuming CC version is newer/better somehow.

What is the difference between colors? On the left side is source PSD file, on the right is Exported/printed PDF file. There was the Adobe RGB (1998) printer/color profile. Is any better one? The same cases were occurred between light blue and light green. Both got darker. Here's the preview of the problem:

I eventually want to physically print a comic book. The printer across the street basically said that commercial printing mean CMYK colors. So, should I simply create and save my work in CMYK, or use RGB and then convert, assuming that the colors translate perfectly each time? Is there an advantage to either way? Disadvantage?
