Photoshop :: Creating An Antique Hammered Metal Look
Feb 13, 2003
I'm trying to create a realistic hammered metal effect in photoshop with a blockish yet smooth/worn bevel [which I'm not sure is even possible]. I have only seen this effect created once, and I have no idea how they did it. I'm looking to recreate an effect similar to what is shown on the cover of the AD&D 3rd edition Player's Handbook from Wizards of the Coast.

I'm looking to create this damaged metal effect in CS2.
how to do so?
I found a tut, but it was for Gimp. Also, I'd like to try to make it without any lighting or shadowing effects. I'm importing the texture into a community built game, and I know how to create my own specular & bump maps for the in-game shadow effects.

I'm trying to antique some pictures for a christmas gift to go along with the picture below, which we purchased. I am having the hardest time getting the other pictures to look like this. How do you get this color scheme, it's not the average sepia. And how do you get this kind of texture, and distress.

As my journey through Inventor 2012 continues, I have the task of creating Expanded Metal Mesh.I have the basic sketch of the shape and all is well. My question is how to pattern the sketch of the shape so that I dont have to copy or mirror over 100 of these sketches/outlines to form the pattern? Essentially I want my mesh to fill in a 30' x 30' square.

I am trying to create the effect of ripped or torn metal. The effect is a piece of metal with a hole in the middle and very irregular curled up bits of metal around the edges of the irregular shaped hole.
My problem is I dont know how to start off. Should I start with a solid piece of metal (a very thin box) and then create the hole after that or should I create mesh that is similar to the end shape.
I dont have any plugins but I would buy if they could speed up this process. I looked at FumeFX but it appears to be for animation and i dont want any animation. The output is for graphic design.
I found this on Turbosquid [URL] ...

I know that I can just manually move the vertices around or use FFD (4X4X4). So far the two previous methods seem to be the best but I want it to be a little more natural and not manually dented by the hand of man. I'm working on a few sort of apocalyptic designs, buildings put together by corrugated dented metal and such.

I am having difficulties creating a creating a sheet metal part in Autodesk Inventor to be able to create a flat pattern. I attached a PDF of the part I'm trying to create. The first page is the item I am trying to create. The next page are the 2 pieces I've been able to construct in Inventor but I can't seem to figure out a way to make it together. I also attached the Inventor model I was able to create.

I am trying to create flanges on the inside of a cut angle from a contour flange based drawing see attached file. I am not able to get the flanges to attach since the material thickness varies due to the cut.

I was wondering if it is possible to create a flange on a rib of the wing section using sheet metal features. The point is that the flange is bent along the curve in most of the cases.

I am having some trouble creating a flange from the bottom cut section of the sheet metal in the attached file. The flange should be flushed with the bottom surface but should be vertical. Everytime I try to do it, it gives me an error message "Not a valid sheet metal edge: adjacent face thickness may be different from sheet metal settings". The whole body is made out of 0.25" plate and the width of the cut section is also 0.25" when I inspect it.

I have many black and white antique prints which I want to colour in photoshop. They are scanned in colour because the paper is old and actually cream and black and white scans of very old paper come out a nasty, dead grey. (Not at all like crisp modern black and white graphics. The etching process of the original means that they are very, very finely detailed.
So far I have been cleaning up the image and then colouring over the top of the black lines. The disadvantage of this is that I lose the sharp blacks. I then go over the important bits with the eraser tool to get the black back but it is very tedious and much is lost. know about opacity and build the colour in opaque layers, and I know the tools to enhance the dark areas such as the dodge tool but these slightly alter the colour and dont restore the blacks lines.
QUESTION: Is there a way to colour in a print and then key out the negative space (white but really cream)and place the cleaned up original black image over the top of the coloured image? This way all the black shading detail would be fresh and clear and the colour will show through.

I have an image with the main subject (a car) and the background which I wish to have set to a Antique Contrast type effect. I think this is what it was called as I placed this text 'AntiqueContrast' in the file name to remind me, but now I can not find anything what I may have done to get this effect.
I either selected the area I wanted to alter or the the area I wanted left alone.

I want to create a flat pattern of a sheet metal-part that I've used in an assembly. In this assembly I've made cut-outs in some of the parts (see attached .png). Is it possible to get at flat pattern of the specific parts with the cutouts? I can e-mail a ZIP-file with the assembly (the file was too large too attach).

Let's say that I'm making a simple L bracket. I'm going to form it, and machine the holes in both ends *after* forming. So I don't want the holes to show in my flat pattern.
On the few threads I found, the consensus seemed to be that you may have to have the part file contain no holes and put them in as assembly. So I just accepted this that it must not be able to be done.
Then I ran across a piece of promo literature online from AutoDesk that made mention of the ability to create "postform" features that obviously are created after the forming process.

In my 2D drawings I use a lot of splines. I restore/convert antique drawings of ancient boats and sailplanes in/to Autocad 2012. I use these drawings as a raster image and draw precisely over the handcrafted lines. So these original drawings contain a lot of hand shaped (organic) formes that go through, by dimension defined, fitpoints (so as indicated on the original plan) and are tangent to other lines elsewhere in the plan.
As I draw a lot of these splines, I want to manipulate the default settings in order to save time and effort. Is there a way in Autocad 2012 to increase the weight, by default, of a vertex point in such a way so that the vertex point becomes a fit point by itself? What is the maximum value to give to a vertex point? Does it become a fit point then?
When a fitpoint and a vertex point coincide, how to keep them stay that way; that means relocate both at the same time when editing the spline, and not one seperately.
I don't want to see these splines to leave the points they absolutely should go through as I clicked them when drawing the spline. I want splines to be smooth, and to stay smooth even after replacing fit points or vertici. And I don't have the time to re-re-re-re-refine every single spline I draw, as I draw so many. I've tried so hard to fix this problem, but I can't, probably because of incompetence.

I am trying to get this to really look like gold. I've played around with the curves and when I get the majority of it looking like the right color, the lighter spots where light reflected off of the piece get far to white. I run into the same problem with duplicating the backround layer and changing the blend mode to screen. Any thoughts?

1. I try to engrave text in metal but that Emboss only brings text up (out) of background. Didn't find normal tutorial which would look like i want. Mostly they don't look engrave.
2. Got a "missunderstanding" with text on path. Coundn't get in right direction.
I got circle around which i want text. But by default it goes outside circle. If make full round around circle text at bottom is upside-down.
I need something like that but without transformation:
How to do that?
P.S. Is that understandable?
