Photoshop :: Create Saturation Mask Based On Gradient Map
Jan 26, 2013Can i create a saturation mask based on a gradient map? For the example a gradient blue from 2441f6 to 6075f6 , and have a luminosity mask based of this gradient.

View 21 RepliesI want to create a gradient that only affects saturation, Example: I have an image that I want to hint at perspective in. I want the objects farther back in space (top) to be less saturated and those closer to the foreground (bottom) to be more saturated. I'm assuming I can do this with an adjustment layer and I've tried messing around with it, but it seems that I have to set colors to create a gradient but I don't want to affect the native colors at all, I just want to change their saturation. I'm not talking about going from B&W to color. I want to be able to set a particular level of desaturation grading to another level of saturation up to 100%.

way to get a gradient effect similar to the hue/saturation effect, so if i wanted to use an eye to do this, i can have 2 different colours fading into eachother to make say a blueish green eye.
i would just kind of like a gradient colour overlay of it
i would like to apply it to this image
I am trying to create one of those images where you desaturate all the color out of an image and leave only a few select "highlight" components in color for effect... so I go to the layer, click on the "Create new fill or adjustment layer" button at the bottom of the layers panel (next to create mask), and use the Hue/Saturation option, then desaturate the setting, then paint bucket the layer to black, and then use a white brush to wipe out the colors in the areas that I want. It seems like it does it fine, but the thing is, it doesnt desaturate 100%. This has happened in another "desaturate" process (cant remember what it was exactly). It seems to take out the color but there is still definitely some brownish or whatever hue in there.. it shows as such when I use an eyedropper to check the "new color," and when I turn the image into grayscale, it defintely is different.
So why can tthe white brush desaturate the colors 100% There must be some other setting I am missing?
I'm interested in making a Saturation Mask. Actually I want to extract the Saturation Channel.I know there's HSL / HSB Plug-In made by Adobe which is able to do so.Yet, I'm interested if there's an option creating it using the Blend Modes (Just like adding a Solid Black Layer in Color Mode creates a Luminosity Mask).
View 39 Replies View RelatedI'm quite new to the GIMP, though fairly experienced with Photoshop. I have a rather unusual requirement, and I'm wondering if the GIMP can meet it.
I'd like to set up a gradient and then draw freehand trails with a brush that gets its colours from the gradient, sawtooth style. So far, so good; I know how to do that.
What's unusual, is that I'd actually like the colours to cycle through the gradient by time, not by distance. In other words, if I move the mouse slowly, the colour sequence will be compressed, and if I move it faster, it'll be stretched out. Is this possible?
I seem to recall that there's an animated brush feature... maybe that's the way to go? Can it animate through a sequence of colours? If you're wondering why I want this, it's because I want to emulate what it would look like if you looked at the Crab Pulsar (from, say, a mere few AU) via a small pocket mirror, and rocked the mirror rapidly by hand.
By the way, 2.7 doesn't seem to have the "Use colors from gradient" option for the brush. Had to revert to 2.6 to match the online tutorials I found... In fact, in 2.7 I couldn't find any way to paint with a gradient (except "random").
So I decided to figure out how to create a random noise map type thing in paint.net. I somewhat used a tutorial, but basically I posterized cloud rendering.
However, Now I want to change the color based on a gradient through the middle. (horizontal.) I can figure out how to set up a gradient and change its properties in a different layer.
Also I have troubles getting plugins to work for some reason. Tried one for tiling but it brought up a stupid downloader that didn't show me the text.
EDIT: Color=Hue.
Is it possible to create a gradient similar to radial gradient, except that the shape is other than circular? This image would be the starting point, but I would like the white part fading to black to be another shape (say, a rectangle, a banana, etc.).

The problem is that I cannot get the gradient itself to change after I have used the Gradient Editor to make it 90% Black on the left & 10% gray on the right.
Seems this color choice in a Layer mask would have the desired effect, but after editing the gradient still it looks & works the same as the default. (No Change to the Gradient)
Can someone explain to me how to customize the Gradient in Photoshop CS?
is there any way in photoshop cs to create a gradient mask inside of a certain shape, so that the gradient is black on the edges and turns white when it reaches inner parts of the shape?

I open a JPG and enter quick mask. I use the gradient tool with a radial gradient and make a small gradiated area. It appears in red fading out to the edges. So far so good.
I USE to be able to exit quick mask, and that gradient would now be a selection. What is happening now though is when I exit quick mask, the area selected is the entire image and not the gradiated area.
I have not created a document yet and would like some thought on how to do this: I want to use a continuous tone black and white image which is somewhat close to what would be a 'knockout' but with soft edges - so it gradates appropriately over the background image I want to use, making the black part of the image used as the mask become much of the effect of a gradient mask: the background image shows through whereever there is the 'black' and 'tone' of the image.
my first thought is to create a layer mask and then paste the black and white image onto that, but I'm not sure if that will work to accept the 'soft tones' of the image and work appropriately. What steps I should take to make this effect work?
How to use the gradient tool more than once to add to a single layer mask? Tried all the modifier keys, nothing seems to work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOn screen this show when doing a simple layer mask fade with the gradient tool. (notice the hard transition in the black) The if I flatten it it looks fine, like this.
I don't understand why all of a sudden it is doing this, same with brushes. Just seems to happen in the layer mask which is really deceiving.
I've been using Photoshop intensely this year for school assignments, and I'm learning to get around very well. The issue I'm currently having is that it want to make a layer mask that fades from the mask to the image behind, from color to transparent to create a smooth transition.
I've attached a sample image of what I'm trying to do. Just note, I used a very round-about method to get this image, but I want to achieve the same effect with a vector mask.
I have cannot paint in black to conceal on a layer mask. I have "NORMAL" mode set and the foreground color is set to black. When I paint or use the gradient tool in "normal" mode with black it paints to transparent. Before the upgrade it was normal. I have this problem on both CS6 apps pc-and-laptop.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using a radial gradient on a mask to create a selection, then messing with the selection with various tools, e.g. saturation, blur, contrast. All this on a duplicate of the background layer, of course.
On my most recent attempt, I noticed "rings" in a portion of the finished image. Is the sequence in which I'm using the tools the problem? Should I work on the top layer first, THEN create the selection? Here's a crop from the image:
i am trying to use a seamless vector pattern i created in illustrator in photoshop, however when i resize it it is rasterized. is there a way to keep it a vector and use it as a layer effect?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWith any lens, there is an inherent distortion. I've seen grids at photozone.de in their lens reviews. If possible, I want to use Photoshop to create the same distortion my lens would create. For example, if I photograph a sheet of graph paper, the result would be a distorted grid. Can I get photoshop to take an UN-distorted grid, and distort it in the same manner? How complicated is this, if possible?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a photo and I would like to blur the bottom of the image while leaving the top of the image sharp, similar to limiting the depth of field by using a large f-stop. I created a gradient mask and then used Filters > Blur but it is not working. If I choose the layer that I created the mask on and choose blur, nothing happens. If I choose the layer (background) under the mask then the whole image blurs.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been asked to produce a large text based image to be printed on a gym floor with a size of approx. 2m squared. I am using a Collegiate style font and then rasterising the text to allow different coloured parts and blending the letters in to each other. I have produced the image in small scale, but now need to redo the image suitable for printing at such a large size. I know I will have to start again from scratch but am concerned that it may be pixelated at such a large size.
