Photoshop :: Copying A Layered Picture

Oct 22, 2005

Is it possible to copy or crop a portion of a layered picture and still retain the layers ?

If I copy merged I lose the layers and if I try to copy normally I only seem to copy one of the layers.

Photoshop :: Copying A Partially Transparent Picture On Top Of Another Picture

Oct 24, 2007

I have several partially transparent GIFs.

I'm trying to layer them all on top of each other.

When I copy one partially transparent GIF and paste it on to the second partially transparent GIF the transparent section turns white and is no longer transparent.

Therefore covering up the contents of the prior GIF.

In short, please have a look at the three attached pictures, I would like to have all three on top of each other showing all buttons.

Photoshop :: Selecting And Copying Only Black And Gray Of Picture

Jun 27, 2013

I am a Paramedic Instructor and want to clean up some heart rhythms to make them more neat and presentable for use during class. Below is the sort of image I would be working with.

What I would like to do is remove only the black and gray lines (when they print out of the EKG machine some lines have some gray in them) and place them on a neater cleaner background as below

(The image above I found on a website where the creator has 100's of EKGs that this has been done with, but have been unable to get him to tell me how it was done)

Also let me know if another Adobe product would be more useful in this situation. I have CS6 Master Collection so you know what programs I have available to use.

Photoshop Elements :: Copying Picture From Catalogue Into Slideshow

Mar 9, 2013

I thought I was copying a picture from my Elements 10 catalogue into a slideshow I was creating under "My Pictures".  I now want to add text to it.  I opened organizer, found the photo, opened full photo edit and got the message that the file was missing.  I browsed for it, found it quickly in the my pictures slideshow file, clickec and got a message asking if I wanted to reconnect it.  I clicked yes and got the message that it was in the catalogue.  Even more disturbing, I got a message that all files were disconnected. Neither the Missing Manual nor Kelby even have the words reconnect or disconnect in the index.

GIMP :: Copying Text From Picture?

I want to take some error warning from a computer program and change text, while maintaining the same shrift, color, etc.

So far, i've been using cloning. But if there is a great deal of letters, cloning becomes tedious pretty soon.

Just wondering if there exists some more elegant trick to do this job.

Photoshop :: CS6 Layered PSD To PNGs

Nov 3, 2012

I have to import a set of png's from Photoshop to Edge Animate. The actual source file is a Photoshop psd but I cannot import the psd into Edge so I have to painstakingly export each layer as a png and there are over 40 layers. Is there a way to take a layered Photoshop file and turn those layers into transparent pngs so when they import to Edge or another app the layers would remain intact but just as png's?

Photoshop :: Layered .tif Images

I have a map that I downloaded and it's in about 7 .tif files, are these layered? I'm assuming I need to put them all together to view the map, and I've never had any experience with layered .tif files. How do I view them? I open them in photoshop but I don't know how to combine them into one image. Do I need a special program for this?

Photoshop :: Animated GIF In Layered File

How do I get all but 3 layers which comprise the animated GIF to not go into the animated gif timeline on the bottom of the screen.  I can only get this to work by turning off all the text and background layers.  I need the timeline to just have 3 layers in it and only those layers move.

Photoshop :: Panorama From A Layered Image

Jul 1, 2013

I think that "auto blend layers>panorama" is assumed to make panoramas from layers ... And, there is also "auto align layers" for making panoramas from layers.

I tried "auto blend layers>panorama" with an image and it can not make a panorama from the two layers trial image ... "auto align layers" can make a panorama easily from the same image.

So, I can see that there is a clear difference between the "auto align layers" and "auto blend layers>panorama" ...

But I could not understand the intention of designers of PS about the usage difference between the "auto align layers" and "auto blend layers>panorama"?

Photoshop :: Saving Non-layered File As PDF?

Sep 6, 2013

Why is it that when I save a file that has many, many layers to a PDF without layers as a copy that the file size is larger than flattening the layers and then saving the file as a copy to PDF? 19Mb vs. 5Mb?? Wouldn't saving a file without layers be the same as flattening the layers and then saving the file??

Photoshop :: CS6 Saving Layered Files

Dec 31, 2012

I have had this problem so much I have switched back to using CS5 Photoshop when I handle layers. For some reason when I have a multi-layered photoshop file in CS6 and I try to save - it gives me a program error. This doesnt happen all the time just when I have been working on a document for a long length of time ( maybe something to do with auto save?) The only way I can save the file is to flatten but then I loose all of my hard work and layers!

Photoshop :: CS6 Not Creating Layered PDFs?

Oct 10, 2013

Why can I not create a pdf file from CS6 that preserves my layers, which are also known as OCG's, Optional Content Groups?  In "save as pdf", I have layers checked and I am indicating I want to preserve Photoshop functionality, which causes the PDF/X box to go to "None".  What am I doing wrong?  I know there is a script for saving each layer as a pdf automatically from which I could build the layered Acrobat file I want, but it I'd like a one-step process.  There is every indication that this should happen, but it does not.

To preserve the original appearance instead choose flatten to load composite data as a flattened image."

Photoshop :: Organizing Many-layered Image

Jun 6, 2012

Basically, what i have is an image of a character. kind of a perspective view, 2.5D if you will :p

Each part of the character fits in a certain place in the layer order. He faces to the right, so the left arm/leg must be at the bottom, then the torso/head in the middle, and the right hand side of him at the top. It's a little more detailed than that, but you have the general gist of it, the order of each part must be maintained.

Now aside from that, i actually have two sets of parts. One is the base character, naked. And one is clothing/Armour for all those body parts. I'm planning to make several more outfits and right now it's getting kind of unmanageable.

Again, like the draw order quoted above, the outfit parts must also be in their correct place, each one exactly above the body part it goes on, and below the bodyparts that draw on top of it. So i end up with these two sets of layers interleaving, in a very messy way.

So, what i'd like to do, is figure out some way of sorting things a bit better. I'm not too familiar with the deeper workings of Photoshop, but i've heard of smart objects, linking layers, and grouping layers with the little folder button.

What i'd like to be able to do, would be, at a minimum, to toggle the visibility of an entire set of layers at once, without affecting the other sets. If it's possible, it'd also be nice to be able to transform, and use filters/adjustments/selections on an entire set of layers simultaneously, too.

What's absolutely important is that everything maintains it's proper position in the draw order, and everything is non-destructive. no merging of layers.

Photoshop :: Making A Layered Psd File Out Of A Jpg

Feb 7, 2009

OK, I have an image of a webpage layout approx 800 x 1300 I need to convert this to a layered psd. I know I can take the image and use the pen tool and cut each slice and make them all layers which is nuts. I also know how to slice up an image in PS and save as images and slices and did that, now all those slices that PS saved for me I need to turn back into layers that will sit in a .psd follow? But I can't seem to find a tutorial anywhere on doing this. I'm in CS3 and maybe I have been working too hard but this is boggling my mind. I see thousands of ready for the web templates all in Photoshop layered .psd's how are these getting done?

Photoshop :: How To Save Layered PDD File As JPG?

Oct 3, 2008

[running Photoshop CS3 under Windows XP Pro/SP3 ]

I have a PSD file with about 14 layers. A few are hidden. I want to save as a jpg, so I go to file -> save as and save as a jpg file (the yellow alert icon shows next to "layers" in the save dialog). Yet the resulting jpg looks just fine. I've been doing this for years.

Today, support told me in case #180459305 that doing that would corrupt the jpg. They said that I need to first merge layers in the PSD file, then save as a jpg.

They also suggested that I post this question here. So here it is. Do I have to go through the extra step in manually flattening the PSD file (and potential pitfall of mistakenly saving it as a PSD and losing my layers forever)?

Photoshop :: How To Erase Elements From A Layered File

Mar 31, 2013

I took a time lapse of 240 photos of the highway below. What I want to do is create a background plate where all the cars are erased from the shot. The steps I've been doing are:

Open photos A & B in Photoshop (I'm using CS6)Drag photo B's background layer into A as a new layer and line up with A using 50% opacity and eyeballing it (is there an easier way to do this? the photos need to match exactly)Start erasing in obvious areas from layer BMerge Layers when there's nothing else to erase Repeat 1-4 with a new photo.

I don't think I'm doing this right though, because the baseline photo always has cars I can't erase. I can do the reverse, and take photo A into another B photo, but it just feels like the way I'm doing this is wrong.

Is there a cleaner, more precise way to do this? If I've added a layer with no cars on top of the background layer, shouldn't I be able to erase the cars from the background layer?

Photoshop :: Layered Files Not Open Correctly In CS5

Jul 10, 2012

I have been using Photoshop CS and have found it very easy to use and navigate and was looking very forward to getting CS5.

Anyway, I have been stumbling around CS5 for a few days now and opened up a template I created in CS. This template had 2 main layers - 1) was the case or card holder and 2) was the colour of the card backs. These are then opened up in Flash as part of the slideshow.

Now, the case layer had a number of filters mainly the bevel and emboss which remained static as this was the case. The colour of the case needs to change to reflect the colour of the actual case. Another issue as well, is where is the little icon at the bottom of the Actions/History palette gone that allows you to change these filters? I cannot find the Bevel filter in the Filters menu.

how I can open the older psd files in CS5 complete with the layers (is this something that has been dropped) and also tell me where the filter button on the Actions/History palette has gone?

Photoshop :: Softening Edges Of Layered Paste

Feb 22, 2007

I am sure this is a simple thing to do but ... I am trying to copy and paste or to cut and move one image onto another. For example, say the background is a scenery photo showing lots of sky. If I move a new picture or a bird flying into the sky in the background it LOOKS pasted on top. I am sure there is some way of blending the edges a tiny bit to make it look more seemless but have not suceeded in finding it yet. I can put a spot of color into the sky then soften the edges ... but not soften edges of an added image that may have multiple colors.
