Photoshop :: Create Action To Copy Channel Name Text And Insert Into Channel In CS5?

Jul 26, 2013

I am a screen printer and I print my separations from Photoshop. I routinely work with multi channel files or RGB files with additional spot color channels. I have created actions to place my registration marks, re-size images, etc to get ready to print but I manually have to create the text labels for each screen if they are missing from the original artwork.

The files I work with have channels named as "Base White, Red, Green, 284 Blue" etc indicating the ink color. What i would like to be able to do is click an action that would copy the text from the channel name and insert it into a separate or each/all channels near the top of the file so that when I print each positive it has a corresponding label for ink color.

I am not sure if this is even possible, and I am limited on my knowledge when it comes to actions and have pretty much got lucky in the past getting them to do what I want without unnecessary steps.

On my registration target action it creates a new channel with each individual reg mark then combines them into one separate channel in which I just copy the contents and select all the ink channels and fill with black to make them appear, i'm happy with the steps it takes as it isn't too much trouble and if this could do the same with labels I would be happy with that.

After Effects :: Creating Separate Alpha Channel File?

Mar 9, 2014

I have created a short (<3 seconds) video comprised of 2 layers. Each layer was filmed as a green screen, and I used Keylight in After Effects CC to create a transparent background. My ultimate objective is to use the clip to create a transition for use in ProShow Producer, as described in the link [URL].....  To do this, I need the main video file, and a second file containing only the alpha channel.

I have used Adobe Media Encoder to output a FLV, and told it to Encode Alpha Channel, as was suggested, but I only get the one file (the main video). How do I get the alpha file?

I am using AE CC.

Photoshop :: Reversed B&W Adjustment Layer / Export Color Channel To Layer

Mar 1, 2012

What I want to do is to have an adjustment layer that is a reversed, black and white image.  I initially thought to merge B&W and reverse adjustment layers, but read that an adjustment layer may not be the target of a merge.  Is the way to accomplish this to fiddle with the B&W adjustment layer sliders somehow?

I like how the black and white displayed image of a given color channel looks, how can I export that channel into a layer?

Photoshop :: Filter Effect And Layer Style In Same Layer Versus Separate Layers

Mar 18, 2013

I'm adjusting a photographic image and am using both a filter effect and a layer style in the same layer on a Smart Object.  I want to separate the two effects into two layers, so one layer has the filter effect (Nik) and one layer has the layer style (Color Overlay) (with the goal of merging/rasterizing the Nik filter effect with the Smart Object but keeping the layer style unmerged).  I can make two layers and move one effect without problem, but the visual result of each effect on a separate layer is quite different from having both effects in the same layer.   The Blend Mode for all my layers is Normal.  Within the Color Overlay panel, the blend mode is Linear Burn.

Layer 1: a layer style and a filter effect, stacked

looks very different from....

Layer 2:  a layer style
Layer 1:  a filter effect

GIMP :: Copy / Paste Alpha Channel - Texturing

May 18, 2013

I have some textures, and i am trying to pack them into texture atlas. All of them are RGBA png's generated with PIL (Python Image Lib). I am opening all of them in gimp and copy-pasting them into their new place in texture atlas.

But i have noticed something strange, i am storing specular map in alpha channel of my diffuse textures, and emission value in alpha channel of normal textures.

The problem is, that GIMP does not copy pixels with 0 alpha value into clipboard. So, when i am trying to copy a normal map from source to atlas, and if emission value is 0, then GIMP is not copying anything, i am getting empty layer pasted into my atlas, if there are 0 alpha value pixels in diffuse map they are not copied to destination, even selection outline shows that there are no pixels in places where specular is set to 0.

Can I copy the histogram data from the red channel of the non-corrupt portion of the image? I know it's the red channel because when I open the color data from the corrupted portion the red channel is literally non-existant.

Photoshop :: Relationship Between Layer Mask And Channel That Created It?

Sep 13, 2013

Suppose I have carefully made a selection and saved it as a channel. I then use that channel in an adjustment layer as a mask. I also use the inverse of that channel in another adjustment layer.

At this point do I have three separate masks inside photoshop: the original channel, and two others that are layer masks? If I then see that the original mask wasn't quite right so I do a refine mask on one of the layer masks. I haven't, I think, changed the original channel, right? But I'd like to use the inverse of that channel in the other adjustment layer.

This gets pretty messy pretty fast, especially because I'm working on a very large image. After I modify the layer mask should I save it off as a separate named channel (it doesn't seem to be accessible unless the layer it's on is active) and then invert that, save it, and reload it as the layer mask for the other adjustment layer?

Photoshop :: Recording What's On Screen In CS5 On Separate Layer

May 4, 2012

Is there any way to record a Photoshop maneuver like airbrushing onto an otherwise transparent layer so the end result is an animation? The real world equivalent of what I'm trying to do would be to have a video camera behind glass and a spray can spraying the glass from the other side.

I know there are programs that record what's on screen but I don't think they allow you to have a transparent layer. I may be able to use one of those programs and key out the non airbrush background. I'd like to be able to import the animation into Premiere so it looks like paint has been sprayed over whatever clip is underneath the airbrushing frames.

Photoshop :: Move Image On Its Separate Layer Or Combined?

Feb 7, 2013

I am using Creative Suite 5.5 on my MacBook Pro...and today had issues demonstrating the simple process of dragging one person/image onto another, applying a quick mask to do some simple morphing.

But...one, I couldn't drag the image from the internet and drop onto the project, but had to go to Edit and copy, then create a new file and hit paste.  Placing one image side by side to another...I was not able to drag the image of one person to drop onto the other.  I either had to use the marquee tool, drag around the image, copy and paste or...found I could drag the image from its layer in the layer's palette and drop onto the project.

More frustrating was that once I had both images in the same project, I was not able to move the new person/image added to locate in right position over the background person/image.  I would drag it to that new location, and it would snap back to the original location.  Obviously the need to take any image added and move it around to orchestrate your image is important.

I have asked a number of artist friends, checked the mode (both images are RGB) and both images at 8 bits...

I presume it is a simple command that will release the image to stay where located using the Move tool...but am not familiar enough with Suite 5.5 obviously.

The problem is, I can't group the layers together and add an adjustment to the group because one of the layers (Number Color Flare) has to stay on top of the rest.

Photoshop :: Filling Alpha Channel Selection With Layer Foreground Color

Nov 21, 2012

This question is more theoretical, as I have found a work around. On a layer, I have a gray color, which I sample, and it becomes the desired Foreground color.

I would like to Fill a Selection in an Alpha Channel with this gray color.

However, when I view the Alpha channel, my forground color is lost to black/white, which I understand, as the Alpha channel is a gray scale image.

But, I am able to sample a gray Swatch to make a Foreground color, but how can I preserve my chosen Foreground gray selected from a Layer? The only way that I know would be to make a new Swatch, and then use that when I am in Channels.

Photoshop :: Channel Selection Size Changes When Select And Apply Layer Mask?

Jun 28, 2013

I am making selections of models off of a white background. I use the quick select tool and refine to make a clean selection. I go in and use the clone tool to remove the "halo" that is still there to make a super clean selection with no light bleed on the model. I put a black layer underneath to make sure that I got all of the remnants. I save the selection and turn it into a channel. I apply the layer mask and everything looks good. I flatten the image and put it on a white background (this is the desired form of delivery for client) Image saved and closed. When reopened, I make a selection using the channel and there is a distinct halo effect still present. I have tried making the selection and going over it a couple times with the brush at 100% and it works a little bit, but not entirely. I have already spent a lot of time going through cloning things out so it looks good, delivering the images, then they are sent back because of the halo.

Photoshop :: Resolving Layer Via Copy Or Layer Via Cut - Grayed Out

Feb 24, 2012

There are many times you will "place" a picture file inside your Photoshop document, and want to resize it, put it in a different layer, or crop the image inside Photoshop - but you may find a simple error message or grayed out layer via copy/cut prevents you from doing so.

To do this, you will most often do this one of three ways:

1) Select the Marquee tool and outline the area of the image you want to copy or cut
2) Go to Layer > New > Layer via Cut/Copy
3) Click Ctrl+J

Many times, you will find none of these selections work. All options will be greyed out. You may be tempted to create a new layer, and then use one of these options in the new layer. In this case, you will get the error message "Could not make a new layer from the selection because the selected area is empty."  All these errors are a result of photoshop not identifying pixels that you are trying to cut/copy.

There is a simple solution to this problem.  Go over to the "Layers" box, and click on the layer listing for the layer where your newly placed image resides. Make sure your image is the only item in this layer, if not relocate the image into a new layer by itself.  Right-click on the layer where your photo is located in the "layers" box and click on "Rasterize Layer".

Once you do this you will now be able to follow one of the steps above to Layer Via Copy or Layer Via Cut.

Photoshop Elements :: How To Copy A Mask From One Layer To A New Layer
