Photoshop :: Converting Photo To Just Three Or Four Colors

Aug 3, 2006

I am trying to convert a full color photograph into an image with just a few colors.

The purpose is to allow the photo to be embroided with color stitching. I envisage the final result will be a diagramatic representation of the photo.

Is anyone familiar with the photoshop tools I can use to play around with and automatically convert the photo to just a few colors?

Photoshop :: Converting To Different Colors Works?

Oct 8, 2012

I'm trying to understand how converting to different color profiles within Photoshop works.

What I'm trying to understand is why, when I have a document saved in with an embedded color profile of "Adobe RGB (1998)", when I *convert* the color profile to "Adobe RGB (1998)" (the same profile) the colors change dramatically. If I am converting to the same color profile, shouldn't the colors remain the same, and not change?

Corel PHOTO-PAINT X4 :: Colors Not The Same When Going From Draw To Photo?

May 16, 2011

I am making a background image for a website in Draw.  The main part is Black.

I export as a jpg and the image looks fine when I view it.

Then if I open it in photo-paint the black is not black, but rather has a grey color to it.  The image is exported fine and looks great when viewing it with the normal windows photo viewer program.

Something is happening when it is opened up in photo paint I think.

Photoshop :: Converting Jpeg Photo Files To TIFF Format

Apr 4, 2008

I'm taking the time to edit some of my nicer/older outdoor photos that were taken in jpeg format in Photoshop CS3 and then on to printing with an Epson 3800. I've been told that files I want to print I should make sure that I'm set to an RGB color space (1998), get icc profiles for paper, have photoshop manage colors, etc.

This is all going great! However, I've recently read online that to truly show the full potential of one's photos, those jpeg's should be converted to a TIFF file format...especially when printing (I'm now taking everything in RAW format, but I still have to take care of some of these nicer jpeg's).

Have done several prints comparing same photo in jpeg & tiff and tiff definately is higher quality. Now..my questions concern some of the settings in CS3 when I chose 'Save As' - 'Format' = tiff. Code:

What adjustment is available to get rid of this sepia tone?

Photoshop Elements :: Changing Colors In A Photo

Aug 29, 2013

I am trying to work with some artists in mexico with their weaving. We are using elements 11 on vista 7. We would like to change colors in a piece to see if they are pleasing to the eye. Is it possible to change colors thoughout the whole piece at once? Using a brush to paint over each and every area would be so time consuming as their work is quite intricate. If this is not possible on Elements does Adobe have another software that would accomplish this task.

Corel PHOTO-PAINT X6 :: Converting To Greyscale (16-bit)

Jul 28, 2013

Whenever I use this to convert a colour image (or even a black and white one) to greyscale, the image takes a leap in brightness (gamma?), despite the Preview showing otherwise. I've used the default (set at 15% dot gain), even taken the sliders down to -200%, it makes no difference. How do I maintain the brightness when converting?

Corel PHOTO-PAINT X5 :: Converting Bitmaps To Vectors

Oct 23, 2012

I have simple outline drawings - like stars or paisleys - that I scan into PhotoPaint X5. So, to turn it into a vector drawing, I manually fill the outline drawing with the paintbrush, convert it to 1 bit, import it into CorelDraw, use the Trace Bitmap - outline trace - clip art, then do a hairline outline and remove the fill. I end up with a hairline outline of the original object that I can send to my laser. The objects must remain the same size as the original drawing.

Here's why I do some of what I outlined above. First, I manually fill the drawing because if I try to do the trace bitmap in CorelDraw X5 using the outline trace, it traces both the inside and the outside of the original line drawing because the line is thick. If I try the Trace Bitmap and select Centerline Trace, I the result is a jaggy line which won't work.

I think what I need most is a way to fill the object automatically rather than paint the inside of it. I thought I could just select the object in PhotoPaint and click on the fill, but it seems that the "object" is the outline drawing plus the background, so the fill ends up being the whole "object" including the background. I can Lasso the outline drawing and move it around on the background, but can't figure out how to do much else.

GIMP :: Converting Flat Photo Into Texture For 3D Shape

Mar 29, 2013

I want to create a a texture for a 3D model of a human head - I don't have the original template but I do have these examples which I can use as a template. [URL]

I think for the moment I'll skip the mouth and ears and eyes aren't so hard to sort. What I can't find however, is any information on how I would go about making the face, hair and neck. What seems easiest for a cack-handed individual such as myself is to use a photo (flat-lit, straight-on, neutral expression, unobscured) of someone's face and then deform it and use some clone-like tools to fill in any gaps.

Obviously I'll need to match the coordinates of particular points on the face and keep large sections entirely unmodified. Then I'll need to do some sort of cloning or smudging to extrapolate bits of the head I don't have.

Well, is it even possible to work from a photo (or couple of photos).

Photoshop Elements :: Photo Saved As JPEG Or PSE File - Colors Look Different When Print

Jun 28, 2013

I am trying to print a photo on my Canon MX870 that has been edited (cropped and a few slight lighting  changes) in Elements 9 , the colours look good on the screen but when I print it looks different, . I have the colour settings from the Edit menu set to "always optimize for printing". The file information shows the camera data as colour space sRGB.

I am using canon inks (all full) and canon matte photo paper and I selected the matte photo paper on the paper type in printer settings.

I have printed good photos  before on this printer (I think using photo gallery)  but was not using photoshop elements at the time.  Does it make any difference if the photo is saved as a jpeg file or a pse file?

Corel PHOTO-PAINT X5 :: How To Use Replace Colors Function

Mar 15, 2012

I have a very simple image, 32-bit CMYK which is just black & white. I want to change all the black to Cyan. Should be easy, I just use rectangle mask to mark out the area I want then go to "Adjust->Replace Colors..." and it comes up with a dialog. So far so good.

I use the color picker to select black as the source I want to change, then I choose the color to change to, either with color picker or manually mixing it to pure Cyan. The colour does change, to something blue-ish or cyan-ish, but not what I specified. Same deal if I try with Magenta. It's close, but not quite.

If I just fill with Cyan, it does indeed come out the right color.

Corel PHOTO-PAINT X5 :: Changing Colors In Image

GIMP :: How To Make Photo Colors Print Correctly

Feb 5, 2011

I'm a new user of GIMP 2.6.11 for OSX, and I can't figure out how to make photo colors print correctly. My printer is an Epson 2200, driver version 8.37. When I print one of my old photos from Mac Preview, colors come out the same as they did when I used this printer from Photoshop 6 on my old Windows PC. When I print the same image from GIMP on the Mac (using the Print command, not Gutenprint, and selecting photo quality and specifying the right paper, etc), the colors are too far off for a simple CY, MAG, Y level adjustment to get back to what I expect. Under image properties GIMP says the color profile of the image is sRGB IEC61966-2.1, and the image appears the same on my monitor in GIMP as it does in Preview. But it appears GIMP may be using a different color profile for printing than for display. is that possible, and if so, how can I change it?

When I resample the image, I would like to keep the colors. So if I have one pixel being e5d900 and a pixel next to it is 00a5d3, resampling the image will pick one of the colors and not something between.. or a color of the 1000 or 5000 that are on the color palette.

Photoshop :: CS5 Paint Bucket Colors Do Not Match Selected Color Picker Colors

I recently installed CS5 on my laptop after first removing it from my previous machine. All licences were validated so no problems there. Now when using paint bucket in Photoshop, the colors that I select in the color picker are not the colors that result when I use the paint bucket.

If I create a new black canvas then the colors selected in color picker work with paint bucket. But if I attempt to recolor the background in an existing image that I import into Photoshop, I get the mismatch with colors when I use paint bucket. My method for selecting colors is the same in each case, I select 'set foreground color' and set the color using html values entry at the bottom of the panel.

Photoshop :: Colors In Print Preview Not Matching Colors In Soft Proofing

Jul 7, 2013

Just wanted to print a new photo and realized that the colors in print preview do not match the colors in soft proofing. In both cases I selected the same icc profile and rendering method. The print colors matched the colors in print preview. I never had a problem so far. All new prints will be checked with soft proofing and adjusted when necessary. I never paid attention to the color rendition in print preview and all prints perfectly matched the colors from the soft proofing. I was surprised when my print came out of the printer and the colors weren't matching the soft proofing colors, but that of the print preview.

I don't understand why Photoshop renders the colors differently in the first place. See attached screenshot for the difference in the blue/cyan colors. I don't care if the print view colors will match the print, but I do care when soft proofing is not working.
