Photoshop :: CS5 - Dialog Comes Up For Duplicate Layer

I've been working with Mac CS5 since it came out. And Mac Photo Shop in general since the early 90's. That said. This just started today right in the middle of a project:

Normally I hold down my Option Key and drag a layer down to the New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers pane. Now I get a dialog popping up asking me if to give the duplicate a name (if it's multiple layers), or to ask if the default name is OK.

This wasn't happening earlier in the day. Why has this all of a sudden started happening? How can I turn the pop-up off? I've tried resetting the prefs with Cmd-Opt-Shift on reopening PS5.

Yes, I know I can do this with Cmd-J, but I've doing the Opt-Drag methods for many years, and that's now how I'm used to working. Running i Mac with 8 GB RAM, OSX 10.8.2. RAM usage set to 70% default. Photo Shop CS5 10.0.4 x32.

I have started getting dialog boxes at launch about having duplicate items for Patterns, Textures, Gradients, and Swatches. I am not sure why or what to do about it. Attached is a screen snip of the dialog.
Create shape > Transform > Move horizontal or vertical > select number of copies (missing!)  This was one of my favorite tricks but it looks the ability has been removed in CS6! So now if I want to make a sequence of shapes how can I do it?  Adobe fail? or am I missing something?
What happened with duplicate layer in Photoshop CC? In Photoshop CS6 was:
- if select a number of any raster or shape layers and press Cmd-J - those layers are copied and placed on top on layer palette. In history added "Duplicate Layer". It's perfect. Â In Photoshop CC is:

- if select a number of any shape layers and press Cmd-J - those layers are COMBINED INTO ONE and placed on top on layer palette as ONE layer. In history added "Shape Layer via Copy". It's bad.  I don't want to get one combined shape layer. I still want to get that number of shape layer copies. Why it combines? Is there any settings to turn this combine off?
When I duplicate a layer, sometimes the layer will automatically duplicate as a copy within the same document, and sometimes it will open the dialog box that allows duplicating to another document.
It seems to happen randomly, on both iMacs I use, as far back as I can remember (using CS4 now).
I've brought this up before and didn't get an answer but now that my project is hundreds of layers big and using 12 layer comps, this is becoming increasingly annoying and affecting my project flow: Â When will the issue be resolved where when you duplicate a shape layer that has previously had specific anchor points selected (but that none are currently selected since the entire layer is selected in the layers pallete and I am using the move tool, not direct select tool), it duplicates only the previously selected points. Â It's a huge waste of precious time to have to:duplicate a layer. realize that only a portion of the layer got duplicated.delete that new layer select the original layer choose the direct select tool click on shape to show the anchor pointshit escape so all points are deselected then try again
When using floating windows for images it is very straightforward to copy content from one image to the other.With docked windows in cs6 there's of course the duplicate layer-feature but there's certainly also a drag and drop method. But how to get this to work? I tried dragging Layers and Ctrl-tabbed, I dragged the Layers onto the tab of another image and tried so by holding all sorts of modifier-key.combinations.No avail. So what was the correct way to copy from one image to another by using Drag and Drop?
way to make more than one copy of a layer at a time? You can right-click on a layer and duplicate it once, but often I'd like to make several copies on different layers.
a way to duplicate a layer behind a layer, rahter than in front of a layer? Maybe through an action script? I have tried a few times without luck. ...basically, I do a lot of architectural photo composites. When I am placing trees, I often duplicate layers, and scale, and tint to fill in area. But when I duplicate the layer allways goes in front, rather than behind. Since I can only scale down to keep my resolution crisp, I then have to manually drag that layer down the list, so it is behind the layer that was duplicated.
I have a client experiencing a layer manager dialog box issue - the layer names are disappearing... This is not happening all the time - and in different files.
I'm having issues with Civ3d 2013. I pushed off upgrading from 2012Â because of the format change and the service pack release. I was hoping little glitches would be fixed.
Here are the a couple of glitches to date that I have seen no resolution to in the long list of threads.
1. Layer filters do not filter, unless I have checked "Apply filter to toolbar". The problem is, I dont want to apply them to the toolbar.
2. Publishing to PDF - when set to lines merge (set in the page layout and the publish setting), the wipeouts dont work, and the background masks on leaders makes a faint border around the text in the PDF. When set to overwrite, to get the wipeouts to not print to the PDF as a big black blob, they have to be on a layer set to color 255. I can work around most of the wipeouts, except for dimensions because the background mask doesn't seem to take.
I am trying to duplicate a layer to another open document.
The problem is that it is not visible at all at the new document once the duplication procedure is complete. Â Although the layers panel depicts the duplicated layer plus the usual backg. layer, in the document/canvas itself i do not see the layer which by the way is an icon.
Whether I drag the layer to duplicate it or right click to duplicate a layer, Photoshop CC crashes. It's very disruptive and I lose a lot work each time it crashes.
drop shadow plug-in?I know how to create drop shadow effects without the plug-in, but I'm trying to use the plug-in and am having no success.
1. I open Paint.net 3.5.10 and click the NEW button, then click OK in the New dialog box.
2. I create some plain text. I am using Arial 26 font and solid black color. The Layers window has one layer named Background.
3. I open up the Drop Shadow plug-in and just mess around with it, but nothing happens.
I have a feeling I'm missing a step in between steps 2 and 3. Do I need to duplicate the layer, or add a new layer? If I do, what do I have to do once the second layer is created?
I'm looking to create (for lack of a better term) partial duplicate layers of text, offset from the main layer with transparency in between.  A common effect in vintage typography, as seen here:  [URL]  I imagine it will take some customization of the paths, particularly in the case of how the word "Seattle" appears here. But I basically need to figure out the best way to duplicate the layer and keep only the parts of it I want to keep as an accent "shadow"
In CS5 is there any way to have the Curves Layer Dialog revert back to the old standard interface? When you click Image/Adjustments/Curves you get the standard interface. But when you create a curves adjustment layer you get a horrible new interface, which has been "improved" to the point of being totally useless.
I recently upgraded from CS3, mainly to get the latest ACR to work with a newer camera's RAW files. I use curve layers extensively and have spent a lot of time with CS5, but the new curves layer interface is so incredibly difficult and exasperating that I have now reinstalled CS3 and use it for all my work. I use CS5 to convert from RAW, save as PSD, then open the file in CS3 to do the work.
When creating a new layer and holding ALT I do not get the dialog box to appear the new layer is just created. I've tried to reset my preference twice and this has not work.Â
An image of a tree with fine branches in winter against a sky I want to darken. My goal is to create a duplicate layer of the image to darken but where the tree is transparent so I can put the darkened layer on top of the orignal image with an undarkened tree. Before my computer crashed, I used a plugin for this called, I thought, Alpha Mask. In this example, by selecting a spot on the tree I could make either everything the color of the tree or everything not disappear into transparency. But I can't seem to find the plugin now. I did look at the index of plugins and found some listings under Alpha, but none are described as the tool I need here (best I can tell).
How I got this annoying display at the bottom of my layer dialog box...???...

it covers up the slider and the bottom 2 layers in the dialog box so I can not see or edit them...I will try to attach a screen cap to show you what I am talking about...
This problem just started when I upgraded to 2014. When I try to set up layer filters the Layer filters properties dialog box does not show. I'm guessing the function is working its is just that the dialog box is poping up somewhere out of view of the monitors, forgot to mention it is a 2 monitor set up.
I have a user who is experiencing a blank or improperly rendered layer dialog box from time to time (see image attached).
I've seen this with another user at a different office as well. Â I assume its a video driver issue but as I'm strictly a CAD manager and not IT support, messing around with that is outside my responsibilities.
A restart usually fixes the issue but I figured I try to at least find out of its a known issue with a known cause (and a known fix).
My issue is with the Publish dialogue. I am publishing several sheets to PDF. I do not want layers to be available in the PDF. I shoud be able to control whether or not layers export with the PDF in the "Publish dialogue box > Publish Options > General DWF/PDF options > Layer Information" (then there are two options, either to include or not include layer information). However, when I change it to "don't include" and close out of that box, the main Publish dialogue still shows the layer option as included and the layers are in the PDF after I publish it. why the layers still show up?
I'm attempting to create an easier way to change layer colors of nested linework by selecting the linework and having the ACAD index color dialog box appear to select the replacement color.

somehow my cs6 workspace has gotten muxed and, when I dup an image the dup is created at full size versus the same size as my original...I often work on the org image at 50% and want to create the dup at 50% also... Â What do I have to do to get back to where I was?
I have 2 opened files in photoshop, and I duplicated a layer in file 2 to the file 1. When I click on the file 1, I can see in the layers box the layer that i had duplicated, but I can't see the image on the screen.
