Photoshop :: CS4 Ram Usage
Nov 12, 2008I am using Vista 32 bit with 4 GB ram installed ( 3gb availible ). In the Performance Settings the max. Ram allowed is 1620 Mb, not the 3gb availible. How can I use this?

View 2 RepliesI've just installed photoshop cs2 and every time I go to use the brush, my cpu does some major laggin. I've opened task manager while I begin to draw, and right when I start, the cpu usage shoots up to 100% usage.
My specs are:
2.0 Celeron
128m nvidia geforce fx 5200
768 megs of ram
I'm using Win 7 64bit and CS6 64bit.
Â
However, when I do some heavy editing, like anything that takes a few minutes of CPU processing, I tend to look at the task manager only to find that 4 cores are utilizing 50% at max thus taking longer to compute the results.
Â
Is there a way to maximize CPU usage by Photoshop? I would like it to use 100% when performing tasks to speed up process time. Is there a windows plug in?
I am trying to use the clone stamp tool in combination with actions.
The idea: i have one image (say a shot of some landscape) where I want to do all of my retouching work. Since I only took the same shot at diffent exposures, I know that there´ll be no change in my composition ( object placement, etc.), so I want to reuse all what I done on my first image on this whole set of images.
But as I was trying to "capture" an action within Photoshop doing some "clone stamping", it did record the "Set sampling point of current application" but didn´t seem to record any strokes which I am trying to place on my image.
if I open a shot at say 4000x3000 pxs in CS4, all is normal, however, when I zoom to 66.7% the CPU usage jumps to 80-90% and remains there. At all other zoom levels CPU usage is as low as expected, this seems to apply to any file format and is totally repeatable.
System Specs:
Design Premium CS4
Vista Home Premium SP1 (32 Bit)
4gb Ram
Dual Core E6750
2 Internal Hard Disks (250/500 Gb / 164/411 free) Scratch disk on Drive D
Nvidia 8600GT 256Mb
Memory Usage In Prefs set @ 70% - 1151MB (default)
I have PSCS3 Extended, using Windows Vista Ultimate 4Gig Ram Nvidia GTX 260. I have gone into EDIT>PREFERENCE>PERFORMANCE, and noticed available ram 1678, ideal range 922-1208, and below is the bar where you chose how much memory you use.But how do you calculate the optimum percentage for your system?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using the healing brush tool, it will just quit working. Am I just running out of memory enough to operate or am I missing something else. The puter will tell me I am running with 45% free. Perhaps the healing brush just gets tired, for I am healing a young teen's picts.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just installed CS4 on a computer with 4 Gigs of RAM and Vista Ultimate, 32 bits. I have been led to believe that CS4 will use most of 4 Gigs of RAM if memory usage in Photoshop is set high... like 96%. With the preference set to 96%, the performance screen indicates that only 1.6 gigs are being used by the program. That is the same as CS3 and/or CS2. Is there some other setting in CS4 I need to be dealing with?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running PS CS3 on Vista Home Premium, 1.86Ghz Intel core 2 processor, and 4GB RAM.
I realise Vista only sees 3.3GB of this RAM, and I know Vista uses about 1GB all the time.
Question:
While running PS, and only PS, with no files open, I have 2GB of RAM, why will PS not let me scan a file that it says will take up 300Mb?
200Mb is about the limit that it will let me scan, but even then, the actual end product ends up being less than 100Mb. (around 70mb in most cases)I'm using a Dell AIO A920, latest drivers etc, and PS is set to use all avaliable RAM.
Not only will it not let me scan, once a file I've opened has used up "x" amount of RAM, even if I then close that file, "x" amount of RAM will STILL be unavaliable. This means if I scan something, I have to save it, close PS, then open it again before I can scan anything else.
Surely this isn't normal. Or am I being stupid and missing something obvious?
I've also monitored the memory usage during scanning using task manager and various other things, it hardly goes up at all, then shoots up to 70-80% once the 70ishMb file is loaded. Something is up because if that were true, I'd actually only have 1Gb of RAM, and running Vista would be nearly impossible.
It's not a Vista thing either as I had this problem when I had XP. In fact it was worse then, I could hardly scan anything, had to be very low resolution.
to optimize memory usage for CS4? It's for a desktop with minimal internal memory.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi'm using Adobe Photoshop CS6 (Cloud) and have the latest version installed. I experience a high cpu problem when i want to zoom in the picture, then sometimes the cpu load of the CS6 process is constant on 25%. I tried the graphic advanced settings in CS6 from light, normal, extended. With the light setting it happens not so often, but sometimes it is there.
Â
My driver version is 310.90, but this happened also with previous versions or with beta 313.96.My graphic card is a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 470 Super Overclock with two different monitors connected.
Â
I want to buy a newer Nvidia card in the near future, but it would be not so good if the problems persists.I can work more or less with CS6, that is not the problem, but the constant cpu load bothers me.
I'm working on a 48 meg file, but my RAM usage was up to 13.9 gigs. I just restarted Ps and opened the file and it's up to 10.7 gigs.
Â
Previously I was always maxing out 10 gigs everyday out of 12 available gigs in the machine also working on small files.( 25-30 meg on average) IT tried playing with things forever and finally just tried ordering more RAM. They ended up putting 28 Gigs in the box. And I'm really not seeing any advantage in Photoshop, other than my system still runs OK outside of Ps while I'm working. well Rhino 3D still crashes from being out of memory, even though there was still 6 gigs free?
Â
I'm just drawing, no filters, not too many layer masks. I do have maybe 15-20 vector smart objects in the file, and I'm at 147 layers. The issue I was having is Pen lag on the Cintiq when I draw starts getting horrible as the RAM usage gets higher. I had been restarting Photoshop constantly to get it to release RAM. But I haven't the last couple days since they doubled the RAM in the machine. And obviously on restart the file still needed a lot of RAM???
Â
I can live with the lag, sucks, but I can still work. I just don't understand why these small files are using so much RAM. Back in the day on 32 bit systems with 4gigs of RAM I would sometimes create posters/covers/magazine spreads that were 1.5- even 4 gigs that would have to be saved as Tiff's because PS didn't support a file that big. This machine runs like that everyday. At home I've been doing some freelance book covers that get up to 450 megs now and then and it still runs better, Cintiq at home draws smoother than this machine that costs 3-4 times more!
Â
It's a win 7 64 bit box, 2 Dual core 2.4 Xeons. two quadro 2000's, now 28GB ram, OS on a 560?GB drive with files on a Terrabyte drive that gets backed up. My hardrives arent rated very high, 5.9, but at least im working local to the machine as the network is slow.
I keep getting high memory usage and high disk usage in ps cs6. Its slow when i open a file. how can i solve this problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm about to buy a new inkjet printer. I currently have an epson R1900 which I have liked, but I have been abusing this printer for years and it just stops working  I'm thinking about the epson 3880 or R2000? but I wonder what some of you might recommend.
Â
I'm a graphic and web designer. Would 3880 have more efficient way to print - in terms of ink usage?
I have an upcoming job which requires me to design a series of icons for screen usage (32x32 pixels). I've had plenty of experience designing icons and logos for print, and would appreciate some tips on the method for designing them for screen.
Is the process just a matter of designing the logos in a vector program, importing them into a 72dpi PS file (32x32 pixels), and then optimising the file in Image Ready? (batch process?).
Is it possible to have two machines, both running Photoshop Elements 11, share the same database file? The scenario I'm imagining is one where the images will be stored on a $fileserver and thereby accessible by either of my image-editing machines:
Â
1. Dell Desktop PC (Win 7 Pro)
2. Apple MacBook Pro Laptop (OS X 10.7.5)
Â
I want to be able to edit images from either machine, but I don't want to create two databases related to the images. I need both machines to use the same database of tags, etc. (Not simultaneously, obviously.)The file server will be one of the following (I haven't determined which one yet):
Â
1. a second drive on the desktop PC
2. a third machine (FreeBSD, FreeNAS, Mac Mini, or a Linux box)
3. a NAS device (perhaps from Synology)
Â
So, is this possible with Photoshop Elements? Does this bump me into some sort of server license scenario with Adobe? Is there a better way to do this at the home/consumer level, even if it means abandoning Elements for another product (or two products, working in conjunction) from Adobe? (I should mention that although it's a home scenario, we're talking about half a terabyte of images and growing.)
I don't know if I changed a setting or what, but now, when it renders, the CPU is rather idle?! Yet the render speeds are not bad! What?! I bought the product because it said it had GPU rendering. That is great, but I want both! Also, is there a way to see GPU usage like task manager CPU rendering? I would like to maximize utilization to minimize my rendering time. I have an NVidia 460 786MB GPU.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a plug-in developed with the ObjectARX SDK, C#, VS2010 and the Autodesk supplied template. The plug-in is loaded into AutoCAD at start-up via a registry entry.
The plug-in is to be distributed privately and will not be submitted to the 'Marketplace' supplied by Autodesk for AutoCAD products.
I've noticed that there is a section on the AutoDesk website with regards to registering a custom prefix via the RDS scheme [URL]......
Currently we have code within the following areas:
Â
Class Namespaces e.g. "MyNamespace.Utility"FunctionsCustom Commands e.g. "DEBUGDATA"
Based on the current implementation and intended usage/distribution method is symbol registration required? I ask as I am not sure what would happen if another plug-in used by the user has a "DEBUGDATA" command.
If symbol registration is required could you provide a clear example of how developer symbols should be implemented within the code?
I am still using VS X2. With my old Canon digital camera (avi files) I have been successful in editing and burning many avi projects of 2 hr duration. Since this camera broke down, I bought a Canon Vixia HF M31 HD video camera and recorded in XP+ resolution (1,440 x 1,080). The footage was then saved to the hard drive using the Canon provided Pixella Imagemixer 3 SE as mts files.
No problems were encountered in editing the footage with added captions and added background music (VSP file). Even when I rendered the VSP project of 30 min duration, it did not show any problems.
However, when during editing I played the project with or without added background music, after about 1 min VS X2 stopped working. sometimes an error message warned me "Out of Memory".
So, I added my system memory to the maximum 8 GB and VS X2 still stopped working. I monitored the memory usage with Windows Task Manager and saw that during the play back the memory usage kept going up and when it reached about 900 MB used, VS X2 stopped. So, when playing back the VSP file, I had to stop the playback when the memory used was around 850 MB in which case it dropped back to around 110 MB. Then I could continue playing and repeated the "stop" and "continue".
I edited the mts files as MPEG-2 files. Here is the properties of the edited file:
- File Format: NTSC HDMV
- Video Type: H.264 Video, Upper Field First
- Attributes: 24 bits, 1440x1080, 16:9
- Data rate: Variable (max 12000 kbps)
- audio Dolby digital 48,000 Hz, bit rate 256 kbps, layer: none
My questions:
1. Is the Upper field first correct?
2. Should I have edited the mts files as avi files in VS Project Properties?
3. If 2) above would not be possible, is there a way to convert all the mts files first to avi files using what software before editing with VS?
I am having a problem with Autocad 2012 LT. It typically runs fine, but after using it for an extended period of time with multiple projects open, it becomes painfully slow to perform basic tasks like copying objects, opening projects, and saving projects. Restarting AutoCAD does not fix the problem, however, restarting my computer does fix the problem. I just don't want to be continually restarting my computer as on average I need to do this 3-4 times per day at work.
I am running Windows 7 64-bit on an iMac12,2

I assigned to each mass floor an usage, and my schedule functions well . That tool is wonderful, isn't it?
Â
But I would want to display each usage in a different color, to show my client how I am organizing the building. Is this possible? Mass floors seems not to have a color or material property.
i have an fully specced late 2013 27" iMac for working with the Creative Cloud Programms. At the moment i only have 8GB installed because of problems with my 32 GB Ram kit. I have an internal SSD for the OS and Programms, an 256GB USB3 SSD for Chache Files and a Raid 0 for my Source Files.
Â
I am now rendering an 7min long movie shot on an Red Epic in 5K and 4K to an ProRes422HQ 1080p File out of After Effect. I mainly used the "Levels" Effect and an Plug-In called "Film Convert". No crazy animations or effects. My Render time is about 18 hours (it`s nearly finished, so this are no wrong calculations by AE).
Â
Are this normal render times that should be expected when working with such large source files? What makes me wonder is that the Activity Monitor show only bout 40% CPU Usage (see attached screenshot), shouldn`t that be maxed out?I have to render out a few more similar clips.
I bought a graphic which separate objects should be color changeable due to given clipping paths.Unfortunately, I did not manage to change any attributes of this graphic. I would like to get rid of the white background and I to change the color of the different objects, but no way.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi want to use pictures with my forms and was wondering if i can use them like the way i showed in attached image.
the CaseA image is the one i can currently use and CaseB is the way i want to use. My reason to do this is, i have alot of parameters to change and having both the picture and a menu below/above takes alot of space which also seems redundant.
I made a drawing, inserted a base view and selected an ipart member, in the Model State tab of the Drawing View dialog box.
Now i made a change in the model, one that is enabbled in the ipart member, one that i should see in the drawing, but i don't see the change. the drawing represents the part as i inserted it at first.
Now i found a workaround, i edited the view, chose the active member, which is the previosly selected member, now it updated, but the center lines became pink. now i changed back to the firstly selected member and it updated, but i am sure there is a better way
In C# I noticed that when I loop through the LayerTableRecords in the LayerTable some of the layers in the drawing do not show up. If I look at the layers in the UI it shows the missing layers with a grey icon for their status while the ones that it does detect have a blue icon for their status. The status has to do with which layers that the drawing believes are in use. In the UI you can press a refresh button and this will fix the problem. I want to know how I can fix this through the .NET API, COM API, or command line.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have recently downloaded 3ds max for Architectural fly through animations and to create construction sequence animations. I will not be modelling any designs in Max as I already use either sketch up or revit and plan on importing those models in to max. I have looked at a few tutorials here about importing into 3ds max which have been very useful but I would like more info/tips on how to keep model sizes down etc when importing e.g material usage, avoiding importing unnecessary elements especially from revit and how to set up models for quick rendering times when creating building animations. I know your computer specs are a big factor but sadly I cannot afford a high spec machine at the moment and I have to improvise.

I noticed that Autdesk 360 was doing allot of syncing. Drawings are open all of the time so the syncing activity is continuous. Then I found that over the last week broadband useage generally is clocking up to 11Gb per day (I get 60 per month), other browsers were slow and I think I have traced the problem to Autodesk 360 - it stoppped as soon as I disconnected from the cloud. It seems there is a huge amount of up and down stream data - turn 360 back on and the router lights start flashing furoiously. The cloud storage is less than 1Gb.
