if anyone could shed any light on issues that might crop up with the following situation:
A few years back, we had a Mac G4 and did all our (largely Photoshop) work on this, backed up on Mac format CDs. Then our new employer forced us to switch to PC (for compatibility with the other designers) and I spent ages going through each of our CDs, resaving them as PC format.
We had an application called Extensis Portfolio 6.0 which we used on the Mac to catalogue all of our images across the hundreds of CDs, but the PC people were using Canto Cumulus, so I dutifully created a new catalogue in Cumulus and spent ages entering the back catalogue.
My question, then, is can the Mac version of Cumulus read the PC created catalogue file, and will there be any incompatibilities (in naming format, etc.) in cataloguing both PC and Macintosh format image CDs?
Also, are there any more general issues that may crop up from a large scale conversion from PC to Mac? I think I can sort out email, but I'm worried that, say, Office XP files won't work in Office:Mac, or the Silverfast 6.0 software we use to scan with our Epson 1680 is inferior in the Mac version somehow.
I am migrating to a new computer (iMac). how do I do this without losing the captions and other information, as well as albums I have created? I already did the migration of the photos to the iMac. I do not know how to setup the PSE10 library on the iMac (already installed). should i use iPhoto?
Also, I have a large number of photos and considering whether I should have 1 catalog or multiple? I organize my photos by trip or year depending... each folder can have over 1000 photos in it. I experienced very sluggish performance on the PC and I only had a couple of folders...
In my main user profile, InDesign will start to open and crap out after initializing Plug-ins. No error is reported. When I log into a test user account, I'll at least get this error, "InDesign quit unexpectedly":
I've tried trashing preferences and restarting, but no luck. My guess is I need to reinstall, but can't find a CS5.5 installer to download (the suite was bought via download originally). I'm not interested in upgrading to CC.
we are planning to migrate from windows xp to windows 7 64 bit. Is there are chance to deploy a migration script to backup the user settings from xp and import them to windows 7. Copying the files from %appdata% is not a good solution because if the program was never started before the Autocad product will start a repair for user settings and so the files and settings are deleted.
I need a method for more than 100 pcs so using the implemented export and import tool is not possible.
I got 2011 version about 20 minutes ago - any tips for a hard core 2005 version user? Other that I have to install VBA as it's no longer part of tha package. Settings probably migrated OK.
I recently upgraded from LR4 to 5. When I opened LR5 it asked to convert my LR4 catalog. That all went well, I thought. Once completed, I created my Flickr published services connector. How do I now tell LR5 that I have previously published photos to Flickr in LR4 so that I do not have to republish those 1000+ photos? If I were to do that, then I'm afraid all comments will be lost, etc.
When I started LR4 the first time it offered to migrate my LR3 (3.6) catalog. I accepted and it seemd to work fine. I now opened an older collection and noticed that all my markers (accepted, rejected, unmarked) have disappeared.
Could you tell me or give me a link to the procedure to migrate the materials library. I have a materials library that I created in 2012 and I would like to migrate it to 2013.
We recently upgraded from 2012 to 2013.I set up a task in Task Scheduler to migrate one of our working folders to migrate to the new version. When I open a part or any other file from that migrated folder and save it I get the attached message.
The message states the file has been migrated. Why do I need this messge? Or has the file been migrated?
We have always made extensive use of File Linking our Autocad (2009) models into 3dsmax. I seem to have found a stability issue when migrating from a Max2012 scene that includes a file linked Autocad file to Max2013.
When you Reload the linked file with 'Show Reload Options' ticked, and then click on the Advanced tab and then on 'Select Layers to include...', Max will crash. It seems to do this every time.
This only seems to happen with Max scenes that have begun in Max2012.
I have just upgraded from C3D 2011 to C3D 2013. I know it should be simple to copy my custom CUI file from one release to another, but somehow I'm missing it. In 2013, I open Workspace/Customize, then swith to the Transfer tab (right sofar?). In the pull down, I choose Open. Now at this point, I think I should just browse for my 2011 CUI file, but for some reason, I can't find it. If I search my C drive, I still can't find it. With 2011 open, in Workspace, the name of the CUI that I use is "Randy", so I'm assuming the file name to search for would be randy.cui.
Any easy way to change the letter (D:) or the path of a disk containing photos without having to do for each folder (> 500) a manual search of the new path ?
I am currently doing a migration of files to 2014. During the migration, does windows active window you are working in deactivate while the Task Scheduler is running? Trying to type an email got a bit annoying. Minimizing the Task Scheduler will only work some of the time.

I am looking at moving from controlling my Styles in template files into a Style Library. So how exactly would I best do this? Create a new Style Library in the Style Library Manager, set it in "Style Library 1" (this makes the new Style Library "active", yes?), open my template files, and under the Manage tab, "Save" the document styles to the new Style Library? Should I then delete my Document Styles from the template?
When you get a new release of Inventor, how do you generally go about pushing your Style Library into the new release? Do you just copy-paste the old Style Library from the old release "Design Data" folder into the new release "Design Data" folder? Do you start a new Style Library in the new release, compare to the old Style Library, and push the old into into the new?
I re-organized my PC. Now, I have all of my photos on my "C" drive. They used to be on another drive. After importing from my old catalog, I lost all of my develop work. My photos are all unchanged from when I imported them as raw files from my camera. Here are the steps that I did:
1. Export the 3.4.1 catalog 2. Format the hard drive and re-install Windows 3. Install a fresh version of Lightroom 4.4 4. Import from my 3.4.1 catalog ("Import from another catalog")
I have to migrate from a windows pc to a mac. I have already installed Lightroom 4.4 on the new mac book pro. How can I manage the migration without loosing all my Catalogs, photos, templates, and all the work done on my photos with Lightroom? Which files do I have to paste and copy in my new mac? Do I have to do some other operations before (backup or other?)
We've finally nibbled the bullet and upgraded to 2014. I'm getting errors in the Task Scheduler logs about missing files in various projects. It would appear that (almost) without exception, the failed files are all Content Center parts that were inserted as custom parts. Do I need to run a migration on the Content Center parts (Inventor/ContentCenter Files/R2013/en-US) in order for the custom parts to migrate properly?
I would like to express my dismay at hearing that exchange content is being migrated to "social networks". While I have no problem with this, per se, this will restrict access for the majority of users who cannot access Twitter, Facebook and Youtube at work which is when they are likely to need the content most.
As a matter of interest how many of you have access to these networks at work (from your laptop/PC not via smartphones, tablet devices etc).

I copied my catalog from Windows 7 PC (along with all photos) to a new iMac OXS 10.8. Installed Lightroom 4.3 on the iMac (with photos and catalog in same relative locations as previously in the photos folder)
In the Lightroom library on the iMac, all my photos have an exclamation mark in the top corner, and when opening any of them, I get a comment suggesting metadata is in conflict. The actaul metadata in the photos looks fine.Is there a global command with which I can cancel these exclamation marks?
I have lists of Documents I am altering and saving automatically in a loop, The problem is that if the file needs to be migrated you get a dialog box in your face for every file in the list. How can I temporarally turn the dialog off?
I migrated from AC3D 2010 32-byte to AC3D 2012 64-byte recently. When I migrate my projects to 2012 and open the old 2010 drawings in 2012 I lose the surface lines out of my section sets. It doesn't seem to bother the profile views, only the section views.
Is there a way to work around this problem w/o having to regenerate the section views?
I have been migrating dozens and dozens of .pat files from one version of AutoCAD to the next for many, many versions. Most recently in AutoCAD 2013 the .pat files were stored in the C:Program FilesAutodeskAutoCAD 2013SupportPatterns - worked fine. During the migration to 2014 I received an install error report stating that this subdirectory did not exist and could not be created. Alternately it stated that the new default path C:UsersUsernameAppDataRoamiongAutodesk|AutoCAD 2014R19.1enuSupport will be used instead.
At first I created the Patterns subdirectory where it could not be done automatically. No luck. Then I placed the Patterns subdirectory in C:UsersUsernameAppDataRoamiongAutodesk|AutoCAD 2014R19.1enuSupportPatterns and no luck.
I started to get this strange error with my Photoshop when making a new document in Photoshop and got the following error: "cannot initiate Photoshop because Photoshop cannot create any more windows".
I thought the easiest thing to do would be to reinstall (Photoshop needs reinstalling extremely often unfortunately), but now when I try and open the program it just give an alert beep and closes back up. Even though I rarely use ImageReady, I opened that up to check and it does the same behavior.
Can anyone tell me what color settings I need to set in photoshop in order to avoid this from happening? It only happens once in a while and I don't know what I've done to fix it or screw it up. What happens is that when I'm in photoshop and I do a "save for web" my document jumps to image ready and when viewing '2 up' for optimization purposes and comparison, I realize that the original view is actually duller in color and does not look like the original in photoshop. The blacks are definitely not as black.
when I got my first Macintosh IICX and all of my MacPaint clip art. I don't want to get rid of the clip art because since I'm still using a black ink printer and not upgrading to a color one, the clip art looks nice in newsletters and the like.
Up until this time I had been using SuperPaint which had the New Superbits editing plug-in to refine the pictures so they had the smoother and cleaner lines instead of looking jagged. With my new computer and printer, I'm also getting Photoshop CS packaged with Adobe Creative Suite Premium, which I have never used before. Since I have not received my order yet, I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether Photoshop has the capability of improving the older MacPaint clip art like SuperPaint did with the New SuperBits editing plug-in. Over the past two days, I have been trying like crazy to back-up my pictures with SuperPaint and then re-saving them with Graphic Converter. It's been so incredibly slow that I thought I would go ahead and ask you, the experts, if Photoshop can also improve the quality of my older MacPaint clip art or if I should continue to back-up my clip art like I have been doing.
I have just got back from the Elbow gig and pulled the images off the card. They load up in Bridge but don't have actual picture thumbnails. They are named correctly, ie: IMG_3483.CR2 but they won't open!? Error message says 'Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognise this type of file'
I could see them on the back of the camera.
mac users... i did a software update the other day and I noticed that there was an update for ACR. Could it have been something to do with that? And why can't I find ACR in my Applications?
